I think there is room for both sides to be honest. He has been a phenomenal player for us, there is no questioning that, buth is behavior has been questionable. His position is under threat, yet that's what he held the club ransom for just over two years ago. We matched the ambition he demanded, and now he wants to leave because of it? I'd also question the bad blood with Moyes part, didn't he request the transfer before he knew Fergie was retiring?

To be fair, after coming back from what he did in 2010, I expected him to last longer than a couple seasons before asking to be transferred again. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

His body language and manner indicated he wasn't happy this season. I agree, we did match his ambition. I presume that when he was talking about the club ambition and getting new players, he wasn't thinking that the top players we went for would put his position under threat..he was probably hoping for new players that suited his main position!! don't know....

Isn't RvP's on something like 81 mins per goal when he's playing alongside Rooney and something really really poor when without him? I think this partnership needs more time and the two of them need to play closer together on the pitch than they do.

Maybe, if these rumours are true, he's just not happy here. It's not always as simple as 'we need better players' or 'my position is under threat'. It might not even have anything to do with the football side of things. Maybe he just doesn't want to spend his entire life at one club. I don't think there'd be anything particularly wrong with that. Sometimes people want a change, in life.

Uh, no?

(this has nothing to do with what I said)

We tried to fit in 2 WC strikers into a team that uses a lone striker's system and one of them had handed out a transfer request. I think it would be wiser to invest in midfield rather then spending all the dosh on a luxury striker only to play him out of position

We don't know that this happened. There will be a lot of stories about United in the coming weeks. Less than half of them will have any credibility behind them.

Well, it's sort of irrelevant isn't it. I'm disappointed that he's requested a transfer at all, for whatever reason. I assumed he would stay on a lot longer than two years after the events of last time, particularly with his apology and talking about how it was a mistake and he wants to stick around long term again. I doubt it's the Moyes thing, he wouldn't have known about it surely?

Seriously, why are you saying this? It literally has no relation to what I said in my post. You want me to give my opinion?

I agree. He doesn't seem the happiest player in the world, but I have sympathy for him. Not many players get played in multiple positions, but very, very few superstars do.

Its a two way street of course. He has to make himself undroppable. Ideally the new manager will decide on a position for him and let him play there to develop some consistency in his game. I feel the exact same way about Welbeck too.

Precisely. Isn't that position the no.10 though or the no.9? I never know what people think Wayne's best position is. He's played behind the striker quite consistently this season but perhaps he wanted to play as a no.9.

He's been here one yet short of a testimonial has he not?

Good luck to him if he leaves. Cheers for the trophies,
Memories and goals. Top player.

As long as he doesn't go to one of our rivals then no ill feeling from me. Rather he wanted to stay mind.

Well, there's no written request, so until SAF actually confirms that Rooney said this to him then I'll take it all with a pinch of salt. With Fergie retiring, Rooney wanting to leave is the next logical story when penning the tale of Manchester United's epic fall from grace.

I don't think that's necessarily true. If all that we've seen in the past couple of days happened after we won #19, I would be more inclined to believe you. Hopefully you see my point.

my sentiments exactly, how people can call him a cnut after 9 years and loads of great memories with our club is beyond me, fair play if he feels it's time to move on.

All of your points are based on the assumption that he did actually request a transfer. We don't know that this has happened.

I'd rather he stayed at the club, however with Van Persie up top, and rumours of someone like Lewandowski possibly coming, I feel nowhere near as worried about him leaving as I should, or as I was back when he did this in 2010. Unlike before, he's not completely indispensible now. Don't get me wrong, he'd still be a key, crucial player if he stayed, but losing him wouldn't tear the club apart completely.

I think, at his best, he is a world class player in both positions. He has proven this, and he should really be approaching his peak years now. I think we'd be mental to sell him. Rooney and RVP could be a stunning front pairing next season.

Well yes, that's the only stance I can argue from, which is why I've prefaced the point with many 'ifs'. We are all discussing this on the basis that he did hand in a transfer quest, it's a given that everyone's points are based on this assumption. If he didn't then none of this is relevant at all.

Well, he had all of this season, but his performances were disjointed with only a few sparks here and there. I obviously would love it, if Rooney stays, but he is testing the waters with transfer requests.

Rooney is a good player, once a great player.

I would like him to stay and be part of our squad, but he is far from indispensable now.

If the rumours are true that he wants to leave again, lets cut our losses and sell him for as much as possible. £50 odd million like pool got for Torres would do us nicely.

We already have a decent strike force and the money for Rooney plus the yearly budget could more than strengthen us.

I dont doubt that he could come back to haunt us 1 day, but the way he swans around recently not giving 2 fecks really does my head in, i would rather see Welbeck run his ass off actually trying, than that big headed scouse prick thinking he is bigger than he is.

The only consolation would be listening to him try to speak French or Spanish

Eeerrr, weee je swee, comme, content avechhhh ma, comme, performance comme, tu sais, mais c'est, tu sais comme, tout apropos l'eqcccchhhipe, comme.

Unless he comes out and says something I am just going to think these transfer requests are false and everything is fine with him but he needs to come out within the two days and say something. Also if he really wants to squash these rumors, he needs to sign the contract soon as well.

Keys and Gray have just said that Rooney hasn't asked for a transfer.

Agreed. I'm still not sure I buy this rumour, but if he did indeed ask to leave I'm inclined to think it's just a Rooney wobble. He's not the most well-adjusted guy, and he seems to get a bit disillusioned fairly easily. There's nothing to suggest that by next season he won't be over it. A new manager might be the best thing that could have happened for him - a breath of fresh air and a change of pace at the club.

It's always worth comparing a footballer's life to a normal person's. It's somewhat mad to expect someone to choose where they want to spend their entire career at the age of 18, and expect them to be entirely happy with that for the next twenty years, with no second thoughts of moments of doubt.

Does your opinion change if we remove the speculation that he handed in a transfer request?

When was the last time he was at his best? He should be but for whatever reason, his performances haven't up to scratch this season. I'm sure they can develop a better partnership but when they've been on the field together they haven't really linked up other than Rooney's passes.

It's just strange really. It would be great for him to return to his best here. For right now, I sincerely doubt it.

Lets be honest here lads the writing has been on the wall for ages.

Since when has Fergie ever left Rooney out of so many games? it was just never done before. He was always first name on the teamsheet.

fecking hell Keys and Gray are always spot on, they've never got anything wrong or made themselves look like absolute bellends.

Case closed here lads.

In fairness though, I think the papers are so jumped up over no one getting the "scoop" as regards Fergie retiring, they're all desperately trying to be the first to report the next big thing... and this is that.

As I said, until this is confirmed, I'll take it with a pinch of salt. Ferguson didn't keep it a secret last time it happened, and neither did Rooney's camp - so why would they this time? I'm inclined to believe that the media are spinning this.

Rooney needs a consistent run of games as RVP's partner where he's not also being asked to the bulk of the creative work from midfield too. Hell, if we really are on the verge of getting Ronaldo back, why would he want to leave? The two of them had a sensational partnership.

Because if he didn't, that means that once again he's done absolutely nothing to suggest attitude problems or unhappiness here since the incident in 2010. Although of course people would still bring up this episode as fact when the next bullshit rumour emerged, because that's how it works with Rooney apparently.

As opposed to the media who have always been right over Rooney and all their transfer nonsense.

agree with those who won't harbor any grudges for the guy if he moves abroad. Given us a decade of great service. That'll change if he moves to Chelsea though.

What the feck is wrong with you people?!

Shut your row, Plech.

I say it again Rooney is going nowhere, he is still our best player by far... he'll not miss playing with CR again, that's for sure.

I'm quite confident about Rooney not leaving and Ronaldo not coming here and I'll be happier with that than Ronaldo coming in, Rooney leaving and us not strengthening midfield.

No he's not. You simply don't leave your best player out of the most important game of the season. (Real second leg)
