Perhaps Colleen had a hand in this. She was visibly unhappy when we didn't start him against Madrid.

He probably uses her tweet account to voice his own feelings. Anyway, I've had enough of him. He's been great for us, and will be remembered for being a great player, but thankfully not a legend. He really acts like a spoilt child sometimes.

Having said that..sometimes a players passion and drive need to be re-ignited by a change or new challenge and after 9 years perhaps that time is mutually right now for him and United...

Fergie retires, Rooney wants to leave (again), what's next?

Wouldn't be surprised if Giggs retired now as well. I know he signed a new deal but if he'd known SAF was going to retire I bet he would have done the same.

Id hate to see him go but you can't be putting in 2 transfer requests in 3 years, if he's not happy then we should sell him this summer. The ''Rooney is not for sale'' thing is bollocks, they aren't going to let him get within 12 months of his contract and see his value drop to peanuts.

I said it earlier in the thread as a joke but we should sell him and use the money to sign Isco. Play isco, Kagawa and one of the wingers behind RvP.

nah...giggs will stay on as a player for one more season, he's united through and through and will know that Moyes will need help within the team and have an experienced ear to bend every now and then. Giggs will be very important during this change next season.

Rooney is a fantastic player but I don't seem him as irreplaceable anymore, given the strength of current squad.

Couldn't give much of a feck to be honest.

Have thought for a while actually that in a way he's hampering us from evolving tactically. As a no.9 i rate him a lot but we have Van Persie in that postition. As a no.10 he frustrates me greatly with many sluggish displays, an inconsistant touch and poor execution of a final pass compared to the likes of Silva, Mata and Cazorla in the premiership. I think Kagawa could rival those mentioned, give us more dynamism and encourage a higher tempo, and form a better partnership with RVP (similar to the one he had with Lewandowski). Welbeck would get more games up top, and Hernandez wouldn't find himself on the bench as often. Rooneys been keeping those players out of the team and on many occasions hasn't been playing well enough to justify it.

He's had a good time with us (9 seasons?), and so i don't hold anything against him. Just think the time could be right for both parties. A fresh start might do him good, and it wouldn't be a bad time for us to cash in. I think we've definately benefitted from his best years, he's not someone i see improving with age, the opposite actually.

Well at least we can put to bed the fallacy that he wanted a transfer because we weren't competitive and all admit he just wanted to arse rape the club for his own financial benefit.

I dont really care if Rooney leaves, as long as we get a decent amount for him and reinvest that in the squad.

My concern is that the club as a whole dont "do a Liverpool" now - we have lost Fergie which is obviously a huge blow, and arguably are not getting a truly world class replacement. If we sell Rooney who - irreplacable or not - is regarded as our talisman and key player, it could well herald a period of decline for the club of failing to hang on to our top assets and struggling to compete on a financial level with City and Chelsea.

So, he wanted better signings and he got them. And one in particular that is better at his position than him.

So, now he wants out.

If this is true, sell him to PSG and use the money to buy Lewandowski. We've been through this before. Now I'm just tired of it.

I'm going to enjoy the Rooney back peddling that's going to go on in here over the next couple weeks :)

As long as we get good money and use that to get a quality CM and another winger in, I wouldnt be too arsed. I dont see Moyes playing 2 outright strikers and I've always believed that Kagawa is better as a no 10 long term. RVP with Kagwa behind him would be great. We should get top dollar for him and then use it to buy top reinforcements.

Whats funny is his statements last time saying he wanted to leave because we werent competitive enough and now that we got someone as good as/better than him, rather than competing, he wants to leave.

If this is true, then its time for him to go. There's no point keeping him against his will. If we're setting our game to the 4-5-1 system Moyes like to use, we got 1-2 surplus strikers.

how much do you think we could seriously get for rooney?

40mil+ easily unless we do what we always do and let players leave on the cheap. All top teams will be interested if Rooney is in the market including PSG. Real will definitely be in too and a bidding war between the 2 would suit us perfectly.

Just like Fergie definitely isn't retiring and Moyes definitely isn't going to be our manager?

The worst part of losing Wayne Rooney would be that we know how good he can be, however he has not played as good as he can for awhile now nor has he looked like getting back to that level.

Rooney's performances this year have tended to hover at around 6-8 out of 10. His first touch, control and passing have not been quite there for months now and I think it would be fair to say the last time he looked like his old self was at the Etihad last year.

The big question in my mind is does Wayne Rooney have the motivation to get back to what he was at the tail end of 2010/11 in a United shirt? In the Brazil game for England he looked quite sharp, hasn't been like that for us though, and it makes you wonder has his level dropped for United because part of him has been wanting out for awhile?

Which as sparky hughes says above means that was a whole load of bullshit and he just wanted to get as much dosh as he could...

he's a child...a sulky, obnoxious bald headed, old tit sucking child sometimes...

Wow if Rooney goes, along with Sir Alex, and Rio, Giggs, Scholes don't have much longer, that's going to be a huge change to this club in a short time. The next few years are going to be interesting.

Ofcourse it was about the money. A fat new contract swept away all feelings he had about our competitiveness. He knew with his contract almost up, he'd get a lot as signing fee and hence wanted a move. I've always believed that.

With RVP's signing last summer, we really are in a great position. 50mil for him and 2 quality replacements and he can go wherever he want as long as its not in England.

Have their been actual quotes? Rooney leaving? That was the most obvious story a journo could write with moyes potentially coming in.....

The club has come out and said he's not for sale. Unless he asked for a move, no reason why they'd do it. They could simply have come out and said there's no truth to him wanting to leave stories if that was the case.

No, all they've said is that he isn't for sale.

And IMO if he hadn't put in a transfer request they would have denied that at the same time.

Some of the journos I follow on twitter said the club had confirmed he handed in a transfer request (or "asked to be sold", which is pretty much the same as I see it).

James Ducker @DuckerTheTimes
Rooney went to see Fergie 2 weeks ago & asked to leave. Was told he would not be sold. A #mufc spokesman said: "Wayne Rooney is not for sale"

Daniel Taylor @DTguardian
Stories about Wayne Rooney asking for a transfer are correct. Asked to see Ferguson two weeks ago, request was rejected #mufc

My thoughts as well... Rooney leaving could potentially have an effect on our ability to attract the big names, or even some of these hyped youngsters, even with big names like RvP in our squad.

If he really wants out, fecking again, then I guess it might be better for everyone to let him go - just make sure to get £40 mill+ for him. Anything less would most likely be a bargain, and make sure he leaves the PL. It'll most likely be a massive loss for the club, unless Kagawa can step up in his role, which I'm definitely not ruling out.

If (and it's a big) if that is true then he's off , they are just waiting for the new manager to be in place.

His second transfer request then? This is getting ridiculous, I've forgiven him from the first time but this is taking the mick a tad bit no?

As some have rightly said here, he's no longer irreplaceable and if that means we get to play Kagawa in his preferred position then so be it.

Rooney leaving could limit our ability to attract big players? What are you smoking? We're arguably the BIGGEST club in the world, have won 5 titles in the last 7 years, reached 3 Champions League Finals in 6 years and we're one of the best run and most respected clubs in world football.

People have a habit of this I find though. All the same shit comes out when a big player leaves. Stam, Beckham, Keane, RVN etc. top players will always want to play for Manchester United.

Right, this has descended to farce. I'm off til there is actually some news.

So far the best we have is "the club have said he's going nowhere so he must be going somewhere........"

This fat turd is now trying to steal Sir Alex' thunder. Sunday just got a bit more interesting.

Have some people already forgot that we signed RvP last season? Oh right, no one else was in for him and he's was unknown at the time.
