It all happened two weeks ago though didn't it. The timing is media manufactured.

Is it feck. Ferguson annouces his retirement at 9.20 and Rooney hands in a transfer request 12 hours later? This smacks of a Stretford PR stunt. United won't want to convey chaos so they'll try and strike a deal as soon as possible, probably paying over the odds.

I think the old cliche of there being no smoke without fire is probably the case here with Rooney, however is there any actual confirmation that he has asked to leave or are people jumping the gun with all the "He can feck off" posts?

Loyalty is pretty much dead in the modern game.

Rooney was never loyal, but he could've had the common fecking decency of letting the PR shitstorm surronding Sir Alex settle, and the club to work out the transition before shitting all over it.

How exactly do you know he just turned in his transfer request if he indeed did turn it in? The papers are saying he wanted to talk to the manager two weeks when no one had any fecking clue Ferguson was going to retire in a fortnight. It not right to blame Rooney for the news to just come out today. Thats why I said earlier, even if Rooney wanted to leave then the timing this news has come out is just the worst possible time for him.

He can get fecked anyway, if he has asked to leave again. Moyes doesn't need this shit when he's just about to begin the biggest task of his life. Rooney obviously doesn't see himself at the club long term, the fact he's English is strange in that respect. Could've been a club legend, all time top scorer...

How do you think the news leaked, today of all days? It's Rooney's PR team acting like cnuts again.

I know it sounds petty after the huge events of the last 24 hours but my problem with Rooney has always been his unprofessional behavior. His smoking, his predilection for ugly old brass and his tendency to scream at his team mates when he's playing shit. I hope he fecks off.

This just proves that if someone hates Rooney, then they will say anything to make him look bad, put him down and hope the club gets rid of him.

Look, I was one of the biggest supporters of Rooney, I jumped to his defense in October 2010 when it seemed almost a certainty he was leaving. You know why? Because aside from Stretfords horrible antics, he deserved his pay-rise, and he was signing the most important contract of his career. This time however he can well and truly get fecked. We are undergoing the most important transition, arguably since 1958-68, and him and his team of leechers want to try and overshadow Fergusons retirement, put the stability of the transition in jeopardy just to get a few extra bob.

Good luck Wayne, I hope you remember that without Ferguson you would've burned out like Gazza, sadly even with all his influence you still were a massive disappointment.

Does it? Read it again, I do not hate Rooney but if he's put in a transfer request (the second time) his loyalties to the squad are non existent. So cya. The other stuff, is like I said, petty.

The club have had to come out and said he's not for sale. So hamburger head more than likely asked to leave, that's my reading of it anyway.

If he asked for a transfer two weeks ago then why would the club come out and say he's not for sale today of all days?

Look if you read the earlier pages, I said I would be disappointed if he has asked for a transfer. But to blindly say he has NEVER been professional is just bollocks. There wasnt a peep from him before transfer fiasco and even since then he has put his head down and gone about doing his job. He did not have a good first half of the 10-11 season with this contract issue and injuries. But he came back and finished the season strong by scoring 16 goals. The next season he scored 34 goals for us and this season he has scored 16 and assisted like 15 goals. Of course we will sign someone to replace him if he leaves and I also agree he is not irreplaceable.

Well if Rooney did ask to leave before he knew Fergie was leaving, then I don't see anything wrong with it. This season he was no longer the focus of the team and more and more it seemed he was getting the message that the next season he wouldn't be either. Not very different to what happened to Berbatov.

Unlike Berbatov though, if the story is true, then can very well believe Rooney doesn't want to waste one of his peak years being a squad player and would look to go some place he can be the main striker. Absolutely nothing of a dick move.

Whoever the leak is though is a piece of shit. Seeing that they've done it right on the heels of Fergie's announcement. Not too much of a stretch to think maybe it's Rooney's agent but, then again not too much of a stretch that someone inside United intentionally doing it so that a bidding war can be started - because the goal could be to offload him but, make it seem like the club want to keep him and Rooney and co have instigated things.

How the feck is smoking unprofessional? Do you honestly think no footballer in the world smokes or drinks? In terms of his contributions for us, its only this season and the transfer fiasco season that he hasnt done well. Every other season he has scored close to 20 goals or has scored more. If he comes out and says he has put in a transfer request, then by all means we have to sell since we have no other choice and we will enough money to buy someone else. But until he comes and confirms it, calm your tits.

Funny how little I care about Rooney leaving now that Ferguson is going. It'll be strange to see no Ferguson and no Rooney but screw it, it'll be entertaining anyway.

For what it's worth, I'd be annoyed at Rooney requesting to leave except I think the club were probably happy enough to let him go. I think this was something that was accepted by bothy parties a while ago, now we're just seeing both sides spin the story. I don't particularly blame Rooney and I'm not particularly worried that he's going, he'll be replaced. I wouldn't take to much notice of the "he's not for sale" stuff either, that's probably spin too. So yeah, I could care less really.

Rooney's PR team are something else, what a shit time to release this story to the press.
Said it after the shit last time, that while he is here all well and good but once he goes, I will not give a feck about him.

I dont want him to go, I still feel he has huge amount to give to the club, but if he has put in the transfer request saying he wants a fresh start, then so be it, it happens all the time.

The timing stinks, he could of told his PR team not to release the story yet.

this is also on the Mirror's website.

Chelsea have gate-crashed Bayern Munich’s attempt to sign Wayne Rooney.

Blues' billionaire owner Roman Abramovich has personally sanctioned a stunning £30million move for the unsettled Manchester United star - who had a plea for a move rejected by manager Alex Ferguson a fortnight ago.

Contact has already been made between Chelsea, United and Rooney’s representatives.

And if, as expected, David Moyes takes over from the retiring Ferguson as manager of the Old Trafford giants, it may be too late to stop the move.

A United spokesman confirmed late on Wednesday that Rooney, disillusioned at being in and out of the side in recent weeks, had asked to leave, but said: "Wayne Rooney is not for sale."

Moyes and Rooney have had a troubled relationship in the past and even though it has improved, speculation about the Scot’s arrival is unlikely to encourage Rooney to stay.

Champions League finalists Bayern remain keen to add Rooney to their growing roster of stars.

Their interest dates back several months and they are believed to be close to a deal.

But Abramovich has told Rooney’s representatives he is determined to sign the England striker as a statement of intent to co-incide with the planned return of Jose Mourinho for a second spell as manager.

Chelsea are confident they can hijack the Bayern deal and appeal to Rooney’s desire to stay in English football.

Rooney is the kind of muscular, physical forward Mourinho favours to lead the line and is seen as a high-profile replacement for Didier Drogba.

He is also available at the kind of price Chelsea are happy to pay, and is seen as the first step in Mourinho’s attempt to launch a title challenge next season.

Wouldn't accept anything under £50million in today's market.

Today's market? He has had a sub par season according to his standards and has only two years left in his contract. Doubt we can get something as high as £50m for him.

Get rid. Should have sold him last time he wanted a transfer. He simply isn't a good enough player to justify his antics. His ego is forever out of control.

Being blamed by people within OT for leaking Fergie's retirement according to RI. This is turning into a fecking soap opera.

So whats the deal? Has he asked to leave?

Yes. He went to see Sir Alex about 2 weeks ago and asked if he could leave as he felt he needed a change of scenery. Sir Alex refused. (that's the tale as described in various papers)
