Amen.

He was always a tool, but he was our tool to defend. One transfer request is forgivable, a second after a season where he looks half arsed isn't. Just let him go.

The manner in which he questioned Fergie and the club's ambition the first time was not forgivable! At least for me

I genuinely, seriously can't comprehend how anyone who has a chance to finish up as Manchester United's highest EVER goalscorer would want to leave willingly. To be all time top scorer at any club must be a huge incentive for someone who wants to leave a legacy.

But I have got to say I would be genuinely disappointed if he has asked for a transfer again. He has always been one of my favorite players. It looks like he wasnt too happy to be the only main man at OT when everyone depended on him and so he might have questioned our club's ambitions. But now that he is sort of second fiddle to RVP, he is not happy that we are not as dependent on him either? If he does leave, thanks for the memories Wayne.

I'm not so sure Wazza has behaved as badly as people think. He's also been a phenomenal player for us, and will do well wherever he goes... If he leaves.

We're talking about our 4th top scorer of all time here. And if he wants to leave I strongly suspect it's because he feels he needs a change, because his position is under threat, and maybe because of previous bad blood with Moyes. Not sure he should be lambasted for any of those things. He has better reasons than some who have gone in the past, like RVN for example who threw a hissy fit about being dropped for a game or two.

Good post, everything I've been wanting to say really. People sort of expected him to be a one club player and wanted him to be our leading all time goalscorer so they felt a bit betrayed at him wanting out, but I do feel Rooney needs a change maybe. He might have gotten bored of the same scenery every year, maybe he wants to play for another top team like bayern or Madrid, maybe he wants to live in another city. I have nothing against him, he's given us 10 years of fantastic memories and was an integral part in one of uniteds best periods in their history. We shouldn't be like arsenal and instantly forget all he's done for us, like they did with rvp. Van Persie left for trophies, Rooney probably feels he just needs a change somewhere, a fresh start. To be perfectly honest, I wouldn't say he's wrong about needing a change of scenery either if he wants to rediscover his fire for the game. He's always been a hard worker but you just feel like this past season he wasn't giving 100% very often and was never too happy.

We'll probably not see him play in the last two games. The inevitable booing might spoil the occasion a bit.

Maybe he feels he just needs a fresh start at a different club in a different country? Nothing wrong with that IMO, nobody is forcing him to stay at united his whole career. For us united fans of course it makes no sense that someone would want to leave, but maybe he's thinking that he wants to have won trophies in another country as well by the time he retires.

Probably because he never really cared about United. The 'lack of ambition' line he came out with was just an excuse to leave, he can't really just say that he doesn't like playing for United, as every fan would immediately turn on him. Three years ago we didn't sign enough top players so he wanted out. Now we sign the best striker in the league and Rooney's not top dog any more. It's all bullshit.

Ok, if, and it's a big if, he is sold then it opens up the door perfectly for Kagawa to shine behind RVP and for us to get a midfielder in. The squad would suddenly look a lot more balanced for me. We'd be losing a magnificent footballer, no denying that, but I think Kagawa can potentially be world class for us in that position, and obviously RVP's ability is undeniable. Rooney may have gone stale at the club, I don't think any of us will ever know the reason why he would want to leave the club but if he won't sign a new deal, the business sense has to come in and we must cut our losses.

I still think he'll stay though.

That's fair. If he has his reasons then he has his reasons. To me, I can't think what would motivate a player more than the idea of leaving a legacy like that. Look at Henry at Arsenal, Shearer at Newcastle - you can't put a price on that kind of immortality, I'd have thought. But his reasons will make sense to him, which is what matters really.

Not having that, he's one of the most passionate players I've ever seen in a United shirt. But over the past few years, that seems to have faded slightly. Maybe he's gone stale and needs a fresh challenge. I think he's become a bit of a problem for Fergie to manage, and his performances haven't been good enough.

I agree, but every man thinks for himself really. One thing thou, if he goes to another English team then it will be inexcusable. I don't think he will because I genuinely believe he really likes and respects the club, and he just feels its time for a change but that will all be a bunch of bullshit if he moves to a team like Chelsea. Wouldn't be surprised if he goes to bayern or Madrid though and those are attractive propositions for any player.

was us not signing any big names the reason Rooney used last time when he asked to leave.. so we give him a brand new big contract, we bring in RVP the best striker last season in the EPL.. he takes over Rooney's spot as # 1 striker and now he shows he has no bottle what so ever to fight for that top spot and wants to feck off again.. just let him go... had it with him won't be fixed this time... pull that shit once on us I forgave him.. not this time.

Completely agree.

He's always said he was an Everton fan. He might've given it 100% when he was younger, but he was probably just doing that for himself. Remember a few years ago when he said he wanted to stay he for the rest of his playing career? Bullshit pandering to fans, nothing more.

I just don't get it. At just 27 he could not just match that record but absolutely smash it.

His ego is hurt, plain and simple. If he isn't man enough to take on the challenge to win his indispensable tag back, then I'm afraid it's time to go. You don't demand your right to be #1 Wayne; you earn it. That's the difference between him and the Ronaldos of this world.

If he really knuckled down, got into the best shape he could, was ruthless about his approach to the game and became his own biggest critic, he could undoubtedly be in the top 3 or 4 players in the world. I'm disappointed he's never consistently managed to do this.

That is what I think as well.

As far as these reports of us not wanting to sell him I could understand it's a massive blow commercially and on field with both SAF and Rooney leaving the same year. Only thing that could help fill that gap is a certain you know who.

feck him if it's true. Anyone who would back this player over the new manager would be better off going to Liverpool and crying over Suarez because here the manager comes first.

To do this at any time would be bad again for Wayne but for the news to come out when it as, is probably the worst time for him. When all the fans are sort in this 'mourning' stage, for this news to come out is just going to have bad repercussions for Rooney.

If he's not happy he's entitled to go. When did we get so bitter? Yeah he said some dumb shit last time, but he's an eejit, so what?

Three weeks ago we had rumours of him wanting a new deal, now we have rumours he wants out. When Moyes is announced, we'll have further rumours of Rooney being dissatisfied at his appointment. A month down the line, we'll have rumours of Rooney coming round to his new manager. A further month down the line, we'll have rumours of Moyes' and Rooney's great relationship. By January, we'll have gone full circle again and he'll want to leave.

If he's asked to go again then there's literally no turning back for him now. You don't do that twice here and retain the support of the fans.

Oooh switch to a 4-3-3 maybe? We aren't set up for a 4-4-2 without Rooney as he gives us so much defensively (and the cm next to carrick is our weak spot).

Not too fussed if he goes. RVP is a better 9. Kagawa is/will be a better 10. Spunk the wages/fee on Gundogan/Verratti/Modric and i'd be pretty happy. Lewandovski/Falcao/Ronaldo as well would make me have to change my underwear hourly.

I don't blame Rooney if he leaves, Fergie was using him all over the place to plug weaknesses in midfield. Rooney made 442 work for us as he was able to put a shift in heling the midfield.

Moyes and Rooney don't get along. £40m plus and that's a good offer, then we will spunk over half that on Fellaini.

Yes yes thats the reason he will leave.

Well, that's quite a portion of the wage structure he'd be freeing up there.

And in this time of greatest transition we can't afford to have players ready and willing to disrupt both the team and the new leadership.

We've had the best out of the boy already so if he goes ill be ok with it.

He definitely fecked up when his head was turned by City a couple of year back and I think he lost a bit of face around the club after that.

Good luck to him if he goes, we move on.

Like he did in the CL final "stopping" Busquets or at the Euros "marking" Pirlo?

His reluctance to do this lead to a 39 year old being trusted ahead of him for the task against Real Madrid.
