On top form, he's an incredible player. Its just that nowadays, we rarely seem to see his top form. He's become such an inconsistent player. When he's really on it, he's unplayable, but that happens about 5 times a season. Its a shame really.

Surely you mean the Everton game and the 20 minutes he played today? Do you recognize that you are talking about a player who consistently scored 30+ goals in the last few season?

What a blow to Rooney this is going to be. He is already well out of form and it might take him even longer to get back to top gear after a months layoff. The good thing is maybe it gives him a nice little break after a summer spent with that dire England side.

I reckon Rooney is gonna come back to us like a man possessed. It's a kick in teeth alright but it's something that may drive him forward and force him to turn on the style and really come back all guns blazing.

Not so long ago Rooney held our head over a barrel saying he was going to leave cos we were not signing big name players, now that we have if that means he is on the bench on occassion deal with it... his body language at times in games is horrendous, kick up the arse won't do any harm

His injury was down the other end from where I was sitting. From the players' reactions I immediately jumped to the conclusion that it was Vidic and he'd done his cruciate again.

I was relieved that it was Rooney to be honest. Hopefully he won't be out long, I reckon Sir Alex just guessed to get across the point that he won't be playing for England.

Oh dear bluemoon saying rooney deserved a red card for his injury because he went in 2 footed. Theyll never learn its the amount of feet you go in with off the ground, not how many end up at the end of your challenge. "10x" worse than kompanys!

gutted he is out, hopefully is just the 4 weeks though, he's looked less than 100% so far this season anyway as well, hopefully he recovers fully and is ready for top form when he gets back.

Yep lets sign an older striker who is world class and sell our younger world class striker and leave us with one world class striker again. Makes perfect sense...................

Only to be expected really. Let's fact it one game on the bench must mean a complete breakdown in the relationship between Roo and SAF, and a transfer away from OT must be imminent, even before the window closes! :boring:

typical journalistic fantasy. However, its a shite start to the season for Rooney. Crap at Everton, dropped and now injured. People are always going on about Rooney needing a few games to get back to his best, well now that won't begin to happen until beginning of October at this rate. I do think it is probaby quite a pivotal season for Rooney and United in terms of the future.

The annoying thing is it'll probably take him about another month and a half after coming back from the injury before he stops playing like shite.

Yeah but now unlike in the past we have two different options to him. Kagawa as the creative player and RVP as the goal scorer. No need to rush him back or any need on our part to rely on him through a bad spell. Can just ease him back in.

Wayne Rooney's hopes of a quick comeback from the nasty wound he sustained during Manchester United's 3-2 win over Fulham on Saturday look certain to be dashed.

Rooney remained in hospital overnight as medical staff assessed the extent of the injury he sustained when Hugo Rodallega landed on him in stoppage time.

Immediately after the game, Sir Alex Ferguson said it was "a very bad one" which would rule his forward out for four weeks. This has been emphasised by the reaction of surgeons who were "surprised" at the depth of the cut.

Rooney returned home on Sunday morning after a comfortable night. However, his chances of figuring in next Sunday's Premier League encounter with Southampton appear non-existent and it seems inevitable he will also miss England's opening World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine next month.

Rooney's condition helped deflect attention away from the fact he did not feature in the United starting line-up yesterday, although Ferguson was at pains to stress there are "no problems" with the forward.

Instead of being paired with new signing Robin van Persie, Rooney was left on the bench as Ferguson kept faith with Shinji Kagawa following that dire defeat at Everton on Monday.

Rooney was amongst those to perform well below expectations at Goodison Park and many fans on Saturday immediately hailed Ferguson's decision as the right one.

However, it must have been a blow to the striker's pride if nothing else. And with the transfer window due to close on Friday, there is bound to be some talk of Rooney's future, if only outside the club.

Certainly Ferguson was quick to quell such talk even as Rooney was heading to hospital.

"He and Robin van Persie are needing games," said the Scot. "To start the two of them would have been too much. Wayne understood that. There is no problem. He played his part when he came on."

That's pretty much what everybody was saying when the first rumors about Rooney started two years ago.

Every player has his price, but to say we are willing to listen to offers is complete bull. Timing of the injury is a bit of a balls, he needs games to get back his sharpness.

Well the best person to go and quash them will be Wayne upon his return, if he's no doubt probably hearing all this shite himself And is committed to the club after we seemingly accepted his demands the last time then he should be lookin to come back in rape mode.

If not and he feels maybe his time here is not as shiny as it used to be and he occasionally casts his eye elsewhere then the best thing is to move him on as long as the fee is hefty enough.

I've always wondered if he is someone who suffers from not starting to quickly each season which does seem to be the case, why doesn't he start his own training earlier or continue doing some work during the holiday period so as to maintain what fitness levels he can. I'm sure the club would work out a plan for him to use when they aren't in full swing. Smoking fags in the off season ain't gonna help him at all neither.

Still think a lot of its bullshit though and the press are just jumping on him after a poor start at everton and now the fact that he was on the bench yesterday and gets injured late on.

Worth remembering that this injury won't set him back as much as a muscular injury. He'll be able to run freely and kick a ball in a week or less. The next few weeks he won't be able to play in practice matches but should be able to take part in almost every other training drill.

The biggest worry was infection according to fergie just due to the fact that it's a deep cut, bar that's it just looks a lot worse than I actually is. he should have some schkar afterwards

'He and Robin van Persie are needing games,'

'To start the two of them would have been too much. Wayne understood that.

'There is no problem. He played his part when he came on.'

Fergie.

'Wayne is a world-class player,'

'He can give you everything; assists, goals. He is quick, technical. He loves to link up as well.

'I am looking forward to that combination of course.

'I am a football fan. I like to enjoy my work. With Wayne and all the others I think I can do that.'

RVP

Lets not forget, this is what wayne asked for.

He wanted to know we could still sign star players and remain competitive - he has now got his wish.

As Wenger said: 'they always mouth off about getting new players and then when you sign someone better in their position they shut up'.

Probably why RVP done a runner. The pressure of the new signings got to him.

He once played with Ronaldo and Tevez. Don't think RVP will really faze him tbh. He'll be loving it soon.

Surgeons were shocked at the horrific extent of Wayne Rooney’s gashed right thigh, it emerged last night.

Doctors at the Manchester hospital where Rooney was rushed could not believe the size and depth of the wound, caused when the studs on the right boot of Fulham’s Hugo Rodallega ripped into the striker’s skin.

Rooney went under general anaesthetic and required one long weaving stitch inside his leg to tie the wound, in addition to a further 10 to pull the skin together.

Rooney, 26, was kept in hospital overnight, but released yesterday morning.

He will be required to return to hospital this week for checks, so medics can ensure the wound is healing. But complications can sometimes arise through infection and United are desperate not to be without Rooney for longer than the anticipated four weeks.
