Van Persie is a better forward than Rooney anyway.

Sparky definitely said it:

He's clearly saying that Carrick is a better player than Rooney on the basis that Carrick is more relied upon.

Ah... Indeed he did.

I still think he's getting valuable and best mixed up... but then he's specifically that he isn't... so what do I know (nothing).

I disagree, surely best and most valuable are the same? Now if he had said most talented maybe, but to be fair we are just talking semantics now.

Nice try though Cider.

If Rooney was our BEST player surely he would be the one that Simply cannt do without for an extended period of time? Anyway, as I said.....semantics.

So you agree that if SAF swapped Carrick for Cattermole and Rooney for Messi then Cattermole would be a better player than Messi on account of his being the only defensive midfielder in the squad?

Some of you are talking about Carrick like he is important just because we have no other options.

How many players in the world would actually play over him in our first XI even if we have them?

Sure there's lot of them who would partner him in midfield, but I don't see two, maybe three(even that's a questionable) kicking him out of our first XI.

We are talking about our best, and most consistent player by miles in last two seasons.

Of course, but if we had another midfielder close to him we'd be able to rest him more.

It's exactly the same as Rooney/RVP, Rooney hasn't become a worse player because we've signed RVP but his importance to the team is less this season because we have another very good player that can pick up the slack if Rooney isn't playing.

Debatable.

On the basis of the last two seasons van Persie has done better IMO. Prior to that he was injured a lot which makes it hard to tell how good he actually was. They're our two best players anyway and the ones that make a difference between being a good team and a title-winning team.

PSG can have Bebe, Young and Valencia if they really want players from us.

Selling Rooney and bringing in Falcao would improve our team. Especially if you bring in Falcao and a midfielder.

Rooney has lost his technical ability. He never gets past his first man anymore.

How about we keep Rooney and bring a midfielder ? I honestly don't care if he can't get past his man anymore, that's not the most decisive aspect of football. There is more to technique than just dribbling

Rooney lost a bit of pace and "explosiveness". He was never a particularly great dribbler.

Also, technical ability =/= dribbling only.

Rooney's lost technical ability.

Citing "technique" seems to be the new hip thing in football.

Paris Saint-Germain coach Carlo Ancelotti claims it would be "impossible" for the French club to sign Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney.

Goal.com revealed in March that the 27-year-old, whose contract expires in 2015, has already admitted to team-mates that he may leave Old Trafford this summer.

"Wayne Rooney is one of the best attackers in the world," Ancelotti told reporters.

"I think it will be impossible for PSG to buy him. He is an idol at Manchester United."

Rooney was left out of Manchester United's starting line-up for their Champions League tie against Real Madrid last month, prompting uncertainty over his future at the club, but Sir Alex Ferguson later insisted that the decision was for tactical reasons and his relationship with the striker was fine.

PSG have been heavily linked as a potential destination for Rooney, despite the French club's director, Leonardo, and president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, both dismissing reports which suggest a bid had already been made for the England international.

On Sunday, PSG's former advisor Michael Moulin, who owns French sports publication Le 10 Sport, claimed a deal for Rooney to move to the Ligue 1 leaders has already been completed.

“I announce to you from trusted sources: Rooney to PSG is done. He will be at PSG next season,” he said.

Couldn't give a toss if he left tbh, he's become my least liked player over the past two seasons. Just don't feel he's playing for the love of football or the club and his off days this season were just incredibly bad and too numerous

Selling him and then getting in Falcao would be mental. Rooney brings so much more to our play than what a poacher does.

People on here seriously underestimate Rooney's overall contribution. His contract stuff was a low point, but he's still our second best player and arguably the most important part of our team. We'd need to be getting in someone pretty special to possibly replace what he brings.

Given how Falcao is being heralded as possibly the best striker around I find it hard believing him instead of Rooney would be "mental". Isn't Falcao supposed to be "pretty special"?

I keep saying this but I'd like to see Rooney around a freshened up team. Whether that's with Falcao or not.

Daily Mail reporting that he doesn't want to go Paris and hoping to sort out a contract extension in the summer. Probably just making shit up like the press usually do but I would like it to be true.

I really don't see Rooney leaving United this summer.

How many trees must be felled before the idiotic British media will stop writing this shit?

It's a bit ludicrous isn't it. Making up things to sell papers to the detriment of their own countries players.

I wonder if any other countries media does this? In Australia all of the Socceroo's get their asses licked by the media. Especially that bell-end Harry Kewell.

The golden generation can do no wrong in Australia. The kids are all talentless and ruining the world the according to Holger.

I think most countries support their top players though, except if the media has a particular association with a club. Like Marca.

From 16 years old Rooney was burdened with the expectation of being England's saviour by the British media, now because it hasn't happened, he's a failure. What they fail to realise is that Rooney isn't a failure, at club level he's extremely successful and there's a reason for that, what was flawed was their ridiculous expectations. Jack Wilshere will probably endure the same fate despite Wenger's best efforts to quell expectations early on.

Dont really know what the hell he was doing today. Bad first touches, kept losing the ball. He had one good ball to RVP at the start of the 2nd half, other than that nothing else.

He looks like he doesn't give a feck, he's playing like he doesn't give a feck.

Needs a rocket up the backside.

So fecking tired of this player now. I would be happy to see him leave in the summer, it's like he doesn't care anymore.

Everyone knows he struggles to get going during contract disputes, so let's not blame Rooney.

Easy guys. He was great at Stoke, no need to get knee jerk here.

PSG and any other clubs should just feck off. Falcao should also feck off somewhere else. Just keep Rooney and bring in god damn midfielders!

Oh and Rooney is not our best player.

Well not long ago the general opinion was RVP and Rooney were our only world class players so surely it has to be one of the who is our best player and if so both them have been shit for a bit now. But imho Rooney has been better due to his goals since turn of the year.
