If to be brilliant means to shine or sparkle, he certainly isn't that. There's nothing brilliant about him. He's productive.

I can't imagine anyone watching Manchester United to see the brilliance of Wayne Rooney.

You're an extremely fickle bunch, some of you.

You're talking about the fourth top goalscorer in the history of Manchester United. Don't be such a dick. Wayne Rooney has put in more MoM performances over the last eight years – a period which many argue has been the club's greatest ever – than any other player, including many of our other top performers in that time put together.

He doesn't shine or sparkle, my fecking arse. One has to wonder at times why some of you muppets bother to watch football.

fecking top post.

I can't imagine anyone watching Manchester United to see the brilliance of Wayne Rooney.

Nonsense.

Even if true, which I'd argue it isn't by any stretch of the imagination, I can't imagine anyone is watching Manchester United to see the brilliance of Michael Carrick...doesn't mean he isn't brilliant.

What other supporters think of our club or players I couldn't give a flying feck mind.

Rooney is clearly one of our best players. However I'm in the camp that believes he could have been even better. he probably is in the top 10 of world players but he was absolutely extraordinary as a young man.

I'd like him to stay and carry on being a key part of our team. But if he does cause any fuss about not being our star player and not being undroppable then I'd be ok if he left if we got good money for him. He's not bigger than this football club. Despite the contract farce of a few years ago.

That being said I'm quite confident this is being blown out of proportion and he will be here next season.

Rooney's next goal will be his 100th in the four seasons since Ronaldo left.

Great post.

it's sad really that no mather what Rooney does or will do, he will never be fully appreciated on here.
only when a certain period of time has passed since he last put his United shirt on will people start to appreciate him and how great of a player he was for this team.

it's the same in plenty of other teams though, and take this however you want to but, shit like this only happens with teams who's fans are arrogant and spoiled.

same shit's going on with Ronaldo & Real's fanbase, then you've got other sports teams as well (Carmelo & The Knicks, or Ovechkin & The Capitals)....the point is you don't see this kind of underappreciation and sometimes downright hatred of a player with teams' fanbases who actualy value talent and aren't pissed just because their team doesn't have the world's #1 player on it.

I don't think Rooney's the best player in the world (obviously that's Messi's title), but he's right up there with the best in the business besides that superhuman, but I can appreciate what he has done for this team and what he's currently doing.

Rooney could do no wrong in the eyes of most Utd fans a few years ago. It's almost like something happened that changed that. He's a great player but if he was to go it would be because the man that has made us what we are wants that to happen. I don't think that will happen but Alex Ferguson is just giving him a reminder that we have other options now and he has to look after his fitness if he wants to play all the time.

He really wanted Ronaldo to leave as well.

with the league pretty much wrapped up, its good Rooney has this extra pressure to prove his worth ... will hopefully mean we storm our way to PL win no 20 with 90+ points, driven by his need to prove his worth.

Did he? What has Ronaldo got to do with Rooney? Do you believe Rooney wants to leave and if so why are we all defending him?

are we? are we all defending him? really?

and I don't think anyone honestly thinks Rooney wants to leave

Really? Didn't think he was all that bad. Van Persie was worse for me.

Dunno. I just don't recall him creating or making any sort of danger in the last third. Alot of heavy touches and getting closed down quickly as a result. Maybe it was the conditions. The goal was pretty lucky too and that was more Rio than him.

Not sure how he received MOTM as I thought Giggs, Rio and Vidic were better.

He had an OK game though.

He was really average but then again he was one of United's best players, it says it all about a match to forget except the scoreline

Pretty much this.

As for his goal, I don't think that was going in tbf.

Only player in our front 6 who was decent I thought. All the others (bar maybe Giggs, even though he wasn't too great either) were very poor. Probably a 6 out of 10 performance from him.

Think someone mentioned earlier how his next goal would be his 100th goal since Ronaldo left the club in four seasons.. so yeah he's got it now and the seasons not over.. so that's averaging 25 goals a season in the last four years, despite the amount of positions he's covered.

Twitter @jouracule

Wayne Rooney involved in 74 goals (50 goals and 24 assists) for #MUFC since the start of last season (74 games).
