The Barca Want Agger story clearly shows that this paper and its stories can't be taken seriously.

Seriously, I don't know what Rooney would have to do to satisfy some people. A goal and two assists on Saturday. Nine assists and eleven goals in EPL. He's versatile. If RVP was to go down who would be the #1 striker. Rooney. Rooney shifts around to accommodate others. Whether they sell him in the summer or not that remains to be seen. At 35 million, he'd be snatched up immediately. I think him being on the bench just came down to strategy. And I think that was Welbeck's size and aerial superiority to Rooney's scoring and creative touch. That's it For me, I'd have had him in there instead of Welbeck.

Right, I'm in the middle of working on something about away goals. It's not finished, but it was inspired by the way Ronaldo was always derided as a big game bottler until he scored that header in Rome. Knock-out games away from home in Europe are the biggest of the big, right, so surely there could be no bigger test of a goalscorer's ability to show up when it really counts.

Like I said, it's not finished, but I can state with absolute certainty that until last night (Ronaldo's goal pulled him level) Rooney was the top scorer of CL Away Goals (tm) over the last ten seasons. The significance of this is that a huge number of the "Rooney's not the player he should have been" articles of late have claimed that he's too often 'invisible at the highest level', or words to that effect. Fortunately that bullshit has only spread to a few select retards in here. But just in case anyone remotely rational is in danger of believing it, here's a simple, inarguable fact:

There is no player in European football who has scored more away goals in the last ten seasons of the Champion's League than Wayne "big game bottler" Rooney.

Obviously the list of everyone who's score an away goal is pretty big, so here's the top five:

1. Rooney, 7 goals
1. Ronaldo, 7 goals
3. Messi, 6 goals
4. Drogba, 4 goals
4. Robben, 4 goals
4. Raul, 4 goals
4. Olic, 4 goals

That'd be interesting to check on when complete.

In Wayne's defence, it's only complete morons who don't rate him as a footballer.

Torres went for £50million for feck sake!

Anyway, it doesn't matter 'cos it's all complete and utter bollocks.

Haven't read the comments in here but what's all this talk of prices? Rooney won't be going anywhere just because he didn't start yesterday. He wanted world class players and he got it, he can't expect to start every game now it's all a squad game from here on out.

The Daily Mail are saying he'll be sold for £20million! A lot of tomorrows papers are running stories he'll be sold in the summer.

Just read by far the best of the "ROONEY'S LEAVING!" articles. It's in the Telegraph and is rating his possible next steps. In the opinion of one of our leading national newspapers Wayne Rooney is most likely to leave to join...Major League Soccer.

The same paper also thinks we'll sell him for 20 million quid.

 please tell me nobody is buying any of it.

It's literally every back page. It's beyond disgusting, how are these people allowed to continue stealing a living?

If he has any sense Rooney will commit himself to United and retire from the national team.

Their figure of £20 million must be a hint that their story is bullshit. It's like the onion news. It's a laughable figure. Even Wenger would buy him. :D

Interesting how all the papers suddenly have fully researched stories on him leaving us - they must've been working on these for a while now, not just rapidly throwing anything they can together to capitalise on the shock team selection that nobody saw coming.

It really shouldn't bother me as much as it does, but honestly, the press are slowly but surely killing my love of the game.

That they just happen to publish the day after he's benched in a big game?

Exactly - they clearly have in no way just thrown together a load of crap en masse to capitalise on something nobody saw coming. Not all. They are professionals after all.

By the end of the week, Wayne will be on a million quid a week, and on sale for £10.

The papers are actually saying he will leave us over the madrid team selection  and for such low money. You really do have to laugh at them. Nani starts playing again so those stories slowly vanish and are replaced with ones about Rooney leaving. It's no wonder no one ever pays any real attention to the stories the publish anymore.

This rooney saga is bullshit in my opinion, and the transfer rumours have been created by the press and city/mancini/rival agents in order to destabilize the club and affect our morale for the remainder of the season. Rooney is experienced mature enough to understand that there were tactical decisions to be made for the game and he's still our most important player.

Even if United wanted to sell Rooney would they be so silly as to give out this info before the end of the season where there are still vital games to be played? And what's this nonsense about Ronaldo coming back next season? It just will NOT happen.

I think some of you are just reading into the press nonsense too much. Some weeks ago it was De Gea being dumped, now it's Rooney? Who's next, RvP?

I suppose the dream scenario would be for Rooney to put out a tweet tomorrow morning saying something like ''All the stuff in the paper is bollocks. Happy at United.''

But that won't happen so we'll just have to put up with these stories.

Sounds like this is coming out of the club, so either Sir Alex thinks he's taken the sting out of the risk of losing him to City and is now putting a bullet in the back of his head over it or it's pre-contract negotiation positioning aimed at getting him to take a massive pay cut.

Media Bollocks is right.

Wayne has had an average year by his standards, but that has a lot to do with him taking on other roles to accomodate RvP's role this year.

No idea what Miguel Delaney's reputation is (he seemed to be on the ball with the Moura and Hazard stories), but he's claiming his sources at United are saying Sir Alex is pushing for the transfer because their relationship has been strained since the transfer request. He's also said to be unhappy with his attitude to maintaining his fitness levels when injured.

If we did sell him, and I don't think we will, but if we did then surely the price being talked about is bollocks? £20-25 million for Rooney?

feck off.

Searching the Caf, Kagawa was another one he got correct. But I guess that one wasn't exactly a secret.

If we were to sell him for the estimated 35 million I can't see us being able to bring in someone better. And if we can't bring in someone better we shouldn't do the deal, simple as that. However, if we used that money for the re-purchase of Ronaldo that is an entirely different matter. ESPN's website seems to think we would be willing to sell him if we could get Ronaldo back. That's a massive long shot. As much as I'd like to Ronaldo back here I'd say the chances of that happening are very slim.

Plus, we are selling a player who should be moving into his prime years. This period of the next few years are probably when we're going to get the most out of him. And I personally think his form this season has been pretty good, plus he has the added bonus of helping get the best out of RVP and Kagawa. He's one of those players that makes others around him play better. Surely a player like that we'd be better served keeping.

If we sell him before he has the chance to break Sir Bobby Charlton's record I'll be fecking gutted. It would be one of the greatest injustices in the history of football.

Before the line up was announced, there was no reported issue. This is a non-issue.

What is at issue is is leaving him out for tactical reasons. Even though United were ahead at the time of the red card, was it tactically correct to leave Rooney on the bench.

How much did Rooney playing the full 90 minutes on Saturday factor into it? Because he also left Kagawa out but used both of them in the first leg away. Even though Rooney had a goal and two assists on Saturday, I would have rested him because in my opinion the Madrid game was more crucial. If Nani was thought to be suitable to start against Madrid, then I think he could have done the job against Norwich. The logic would dictate that.Out of the 10 out positions, I think 6 should be a lock for the most important matches. Those players are Evra, Vidic, Rafael, Carrick, Rooney and Robin van Persie. Then the 2nd CB would be Evans or Rio. The other three MF positions you can play around with.

Relationship has been strained since the request? And yet he's kept him here for 2 years since that with him being an integral part of our side. And seeing all those pictures of those two laughing away in training, one wouldn't think things are strained. And this fitness nonsense is something even the Daily Star came up last night. It's all a load of rubbish, why didn't ANY of these people have these stories before the Madrid match, eh? Typical reactionary bs from the British media. They did the same thing last season when the papers all had him leaving this summer and it's the same nonsense again.

Why is everyone so amazed by the thought of SAF not being happy with him? We don't know what's happening behind the scenes.
