Despite Rooney's injuries he's pretty much contributed either a goal or an assist a game this season..

People seem to forget his brace at the Etihad, his brace and his lovely assist against Reading in the 4-3, his brace to win us the match against Southampton, that curler into the corner to win us the match against Fulham.

Rooney has been in better form that RVP recently.

Ive said it before and Ill say it again, he wanted a better class of player around him, now he has that and evidently that will mean there are games the manager feels Rooney is not the right option for.

Be careful what you ask for because you just might get it.

Or alternatively that was never really the issue and he really IS a mercenery money grabbing little tit.

This has all come because he was on the bench. Funny how nobody reported it beforehand, fecking vultures.

Him, Kagawa and Nani to tear Chelsea apart at the weekend, you heard it here first. It's just all-out madness in the papers at the moment.

I think a lot of people have commented on how reserved Fergie has been this season when talking about Rooney and how he's evolving the team so as not to be reliant on him. Most probably figured it for a challenge to him to raise his standards, though.

Be pretty amazing if Nani and Rooney leave for like a combined £35m.....other than Ronaldo, Fergie loves selling cheap.

Much shit on the paper these days

When were the back pages anything else? It's all just speculation and a bit of fun, I don't know why folk get so carried away.

I think the papers are justified in speculating, there are various factors at play that could logically result in Rooney being sold.

So if RVP gets left out on sunday and Rooney and hernandez start up top, with kagawa and valencia in the wings, are the press going to start saying RVP to PSG and club has fallen out with him?.

Of course they wont, its just that Rooney is english and high profile.

Rooney proved in the first leg he can not do the tracking job anymore, if i was given the choice of Welbeck Nani or Rooney doing that job, i would choose the other 2 every time.

Rooney isnt fast, isnt agile, doesnt have a great skill set.

if RVP had previously questioned the club, said he wanted to leave, was coming towards new contract negotiations at 28 and then got left out then yeah, there'd be rumours.

There are enough factors to run this type of story.

This. It's just madness. The worst thing is we will hear about the Rooney Rumor till the end of the summer transfer window.

:wenger:

Our fans are mental.

You lot really are blinded by him arent you.

Since when does Rooney ever use skill to get passed a man? half the time he looks like a pissed geriatric chasing an egg down a hill when trying to dribble.

Dont get me wrong on Rooneys day im 1 of his biggest fans, but im just being realistic. His top speed might not be bad but his acceleration is pretty poor, i just dont think he is suited to a wide role at all.

fecking newspapers... Rooney looked happy enough warming up on Tuesday, which I doubt would be the case if he didn't accept Fergie's reasons.

"Don't get me wrong, I like Rooney, but he's shit"

2 years left on his contract, the last time you could cash in on him would be this summer.

Ferguson doesn't forget - I wouldn't be surprised if the way he was held to ransom over that contract is in the back of his mind.

He did want better players around him but unfortunately for him they all seem to be on a different wavelength at times. The ability to play quick, one touch passing is something that the likes of Nani, Welbeck, Van Persie, Cleverley and Kagawa are good at. Rooney, however, drops to pieces when he's involved in this sort of interplay.

This, I believe, is part of the reason he didn't start against Madrid. For me, his passing has been erratic for a while now, but when put under pressure by top class footballers he really struggled in the 1st leg.

His dribbling certainly has declined since he came through, though he used to be good at it. And yes he's lost a yard of pace.

The mentalness of your post lies more in the skills he does show regularly, like I dunno, clinical close finishing, powerful distance shooting, amazing long passing, clever flicks, not infrequently splitting defences. When he's on form his general touch is absolute class, he pulls it out the air and shifts it into space in one move. Though it's true that this deserts him quite often.

So because he doesn't run past players on a regular basis, he's not a skillful player? RvP doesn't do it either, is he not skillful? I think you're confusing the role of strikers and wingers here. You can't base how good he is based on how he does out wide, seeing as it's not his natural position.

Rooney is a very skillful and technically gifted footballer, one of the best all round players in the world. I'm not remotely blinded by him, I don't really defend him much on here nor do I criticize, I usually don't venture into his thread much, he's not one of my favourite players (or least favourite) but I can appreciate that he's a very fecking good one!

He's absolutely brilliant, and he's staying put. All other opinions can feck off, especially the knee-jerk ones based on a tactical decision not to start him in an unusual line-up against Madrid.

It is on the back of Fergie's mind and that is why he decided to drop him from our biggest game this season. What better time to a revengeful cnut than a home tie against Real.

Go on, tell us more, Chelsea fan.

Funny how all this is going about after he was left on the bench. Oh noes, a player doesn't start a game, so he must be leaving! :wenger:

I'll believe Rooney is leaving when I see it.

A lot of the hacks are coming out insisting that we might have difficulty shifting Rooney because he's gone down a level or other such bollocks. It's absurd, he's so much more highly valued on the continent than he is here. If he was available, and he clearly isn't, then the La Liga giants would be all over him like flies round shit.

If only.

History tells us that once you cross Ferguson, you will pay in the long-term - usually by being drummed out of the club. I'm not saying being dropped for the Madrid game was revenge, but cashing in on him just as his powers start to wane (the Italian way) might not be beyond the realms of possibility.

Usually with weeks or days ala Beckham,RVN,Stam,Keane. If Fergie was bitter about the contract thing he would have been sold a long time back. I doubt fergie has any problem with Rooney getting as much out of the Glazers as he can. If he is sold it will be because he thinks Rooneys best days are over in my opinion,
