He's off in the summer. We'd have shifted him last year except there were no takers, I reckon.
He wasnt played purely for tactical reasons, and fergie proved correct. It was either RVP or Rooney, and he chose RVP.
Welbeck and Nani both did their jobs remarkably, and Giggs played from another planet.
It takes a long, long, long time for people to realise that football is a squad game. You utilise your squad depending on the tactics you want to use. Ferguson and Phelan had clear tactics last night to stop Real, which worked.
Seriously, our tactics took Real by complete surprise. It's not a case of Rooney being dropped, it was a case of we wanted to win the game and our plan to win the game didn't involve Rooney starting. But the media loves a good story, it's a decent excuse for Rooney if he does want out though.
I wouldn't be surprised if Ferguson wanted to move him on, but I would be surprised to see Rooney take up the move to live in another country. I just can't see him leaving, because he'd only be going abroad
Where would he go to though?
Never quite felt the same about Rooney after what he did a few seasons ago, still a quality player mind.
France (PSG) is just across the English Channel. What do you think this is, the Middle Ages?
Whether he goes or not, there is no doubt in my mind that important though he has been to United, when did he last ignite a top top game?
And if anyone brings up the CL final goal, may I suggest that Rooney was otherwise anonymous that evening (along with the rest of the team).
If Rooney had been in Welbeck's position he'd have scored a couple tho. And THAT is a haunting fact

Bit OTT to call it a fact to be honest. And he probably would have done a far worse job on Alonso which would have meant that Di Maria and Ronaldo would have performed better in the first half.
Can you really see him end his career at United? He will go but I think Fergie will try and get at least another two years out of Rooney. It would be very shocking to see Rooney leave United.
Can we at least put to bed the myth that Rooney is our most important player and that he is irreplaceable? The hyperbole from some people before this game was ridiculous. There were people saying that no matter how bad Rooney plays he makes the team play better and he is still our most influential player just by being on the pitch.
Obviously last night was a tactical decision and nothing against Rooney's ability but if Rooney truly was irreplaceable and our most important player he would have started.
I take it you didn't watch this years Derby? Or most of the big games last year? Or many of our knockout stage CL matches in recent years?
I really hope he puts in another MOTM performance on Sunday and the "It won't be that bad if we sell him" Brigade and the "He's off in the summer" brigade wind it in for atleast another 7 days.
the fact that its haunting is a fact, not the guarantee of goals (which is impossible - fact)
It was shockingly brave. Our collective 'pub' theory at the time was that Fergie sensed Rooney was overly pumped and might be at risk of getting sent off.

The day he leaves I really hope you have someone to sit on suicide watch with you.
Rubbish. We don't know what would have happened had Rooney played from the start, he might have scored, maybe not but there is no haunting fact about it, you're acting like Welbeck didn't give an incredible performance. What we do know though is that Welbeck came on and did more in this leg than Wayne did over both.
Same for you if he retires here. Get a grip both of you. Weirdo Rooney extremists.

The day he leaves (which I don't see happening anytime soon) I'll respect him for everything he's achieved for us all these years and salute him as one of our greatest players ever and not attempt to rewrite history like some here seem to do with Rooney.
Now now hectic, You have been here long enough to know that Rooney is up there with Messi and Ronaldo and SURELY would have won the game for us had he started despite all evidence to the contrary.
Welbeck unlike Rooney actually did contribute a couple of goals over both legs (goal and an assist).
Tactically the decision to play Welbeck over Rooney was fine but I wish he'd played over RvP. He's been in better form than the Dutchman over the last 7 games or so and has a proven track record in the CL knockout rounds.
Well Rooney played around 90 mins in the entire tie and got one assist and set up one brilliant chance for RvP in the first leg.

no way should he lead the line over RVP in an important match. RVP is far better at it.
Why not? He's done a very good job for us leading the line many times in recent years. He even did it quite well just last year. And besides, RvP hasn't even been in the best of form off late.
RvP was probably our worst player yesterday though.
