Virgil van Dijk | VVD throws a hissy fit

Liverpool spending 60M for the CB that Soton brought to replace the 20M CB Liverpool purchased from them.

Mental.

If Liverpool start paying 60m for players and paying them 200k a week, Spurs will be in serious trouble sooner rather than later.

£80M for a poor mans bramble and wages of 752K a week.

Ruining football.

“If you bring one player in for £100m and he gets injured, then it all goes through the chimney,” the Reds boss said.

“The day that this is football, I’m not in a job anymore, because the game is about playing together.

“Other clubs can go out and spend more money and collect top players. I want to do it differently. I would even do it differently if I could spend that money.”

Expecting his resignation in due course.

Insane price. Let's see if Jamie Redknapp and Phil Thompson mentions it every time they are on TV.

Exactly. It will be very nice if every time Pogba touches the ball, it's not preceded by, "For the price Manchester United paid, Pogba..."

It won't be £60m or £65m, nowhere near, and if it is that will be if Liverpool win the title and UCL or whatever.

What a clown

My estimation of Klopp has seriously deminished since he joined the scousers, he is just nuts and fits them perfectly.

I estimate they will continue to beat the top half teams but stuggle for consistency where it really matters.

Intent. If nothing else, this is possibly the biggest show of intent in the market Liverpool have shown for years. In terms of competing for a signature, it's possibly Liverpool's biggest signing since Collymore.

Buying another Southampton player? You've been doing it for years now :D

Multiple sources have said £60M, he has five years on his contract and they've already said he's not for sale. Liverpool are going to have pay up and the Saints board will be laughing.

So might become a good cup team, a bit like...

Good defender but nothing special and wouldn't really be an improvement on what we already have especially not for £60m. Glad United didn't get involved in this.
You really think he wouldn't be an improvement on Rojo, Jones and Smalling? I think he would improve us massively.

The price is a different matter. But in terms of quality, he would improve every team in the league except Tottenham maybe.

I want van dijk to Liverpool to happen more than I want united to sign griezmann.

This would make Andy Carroll look like buying a Picasso from somebody's car boot for 2 quid.

Fixed.

On a serious note, I wouldn't touch Southampton defenders for now as it could be the system that's getting out of the players. I thought Fonte was bloody brilliant for them and even thought we should make a move . Same was said about Clyne and Lovren.

Still much better than their current options and so I think this will be a success

YEAAAAAAAAA

Thus the name. I could not believe how wound up he was at Old Trafford this season acted the total nut job. Makes the Fat Spanish Waiter look positively normal.

And or than?

VvD best of the three mentioned but feck me thats a lot of money for a CB. Varane would be 90M

Than, sorry. It's crazy money, struggling to get my head around it, but it's not my money so feck it.

I think this guy really flatters to deceive. Composed on the ball and quick but poor on set pieces. I don't believe he would improve us.

60m. Nuts, cant get over that fee. He isn't even the best cb in the prem.

Southampton conceded 23 goals in the 21 PL games he played last season. 25 in the 18 he missed. Thing is, Fonte left around the same time Van Dijk got injured so I don't know who's loss was more significant

I think more important than both is Romeu.

van Dijk is a very good CB but being exposed in a system where someone like Emre Can or Jordan Henderson is your deepest midfielder ahead of you and your fullbacks are up the pitch most of the game is much more intense than what he'll be used to. Factor in the pundits and football fans will actually scrutinise your performances and pick out mistakes when you're likely to get free passes otherwise because nobody truly cares about Saints... The learning curve is steep at the top clubs.

The money's totally insane now. I don't think van Dijk at £60m is much worse than Bournemouth paying £15m for Ibe or giving Defoe that massive contract. The money's there and everyone knows it. Hell of a risk with the injury though.

The funniest thing about this potentially hilarious transfer is seeing the amount of pool fans saying that van dijk joining is the "klopp factor". You'd swear messi just landed at john Lennon airport. Van dijk is exactly, exactly the standard of player they've been signing for decades.

This is followed by the countless pre emptive tweets mocking the gifs that will be made when he makes a mistake. They simply can't even fully convince themselves this guy is worth 60m.

If they blow that chunk of their budget on him i would be shocked...but hugely entertained

He might be better than what we have right now, but i'm not so sure. Don't get me wrong i think he's a good defender, potentially very good. But i also think Bailly, Rojo and Smalling are very good to good.

For £60m which would be a world record fee for a defender i would be wanting a player who is one of the world's top 3 defenders and someone we could build a defence around for 8-10 years like we did Ferdinand. I just don't see Van Dijk ever being on that level.

60m. Nuts, cant get over that fee. He isn't even the best cb in the prem.

But he's better than any of the current Liverpool CBs and will improve their team significantly. Over-priced, yes, if £60m proves to be the actual fee, but then United fans are hardly in a position to criticise over-paying for players.

Finally Klopp realises that he'll have to spend big if he wants to have a chance of winning anything in this league. His transfer policy of buying relative unknowns like the Estonian Vidic and the Cameroonian usurper was falling flat on its face.

Worried that VVD will improve them tremendously, they were a shambles at the back last season.
