Virgil van Dijk | VVD throws a hissy fit

Wow that is extraordinary. Clearly they realised they were in potentially big trouble due to evidence of tapping up and decided to pull out with apologies. Incredible.

Everything feels like humiliation at this point. If we're not losing 4-3 to Bournemouth in the last seconds of the match, we're getting humiliated in the transfer market in the pre-season.
Worst thing about it is most fans of other clubs in our situation wouldn't even think about something like this ever occurring, but from that complaint by Southampton on, I felt like the worst case scenario's the most likely scenario.

We're a laughing stock, and rightfully so.
I'd rather see us sign nobody and then sell Coutinho in order to get relegated, because I just can't stand FSG making money on this club while doing this shit to our squad every season over.

And it's also clear that they realise what they're doing and why fans don't like it, otherwise Klopp wouldn't be forced to talk about how you don't win medals by having positive net spend.

I just don't get why they went through trouble of teaching him that line, and also promise to spend money... if they clearly don't want to spend money? Why can't they just come out and say it "hey fans, we are not spending money so have fun with season xoxo"? At least have the courtesy of taking the fans out to wine and dine before the merciless painful shagging.
Fully on board with that.

Maybe not quite as graceful, but Bailly is just as calm and passes just as well IMO.

Bailly is poor on the ball, nothing to do with grace. He is a great raw defender but we need someone alongside him who can play a bit

Lets face it, football left us supporters behind a long time back. LFC have FSG. MUFC have the Glazers. Saints are at the behest of the sharks and usually can do nothing about it. We are the one constant and turn up week in week out, yet are the first to be screwed over.

Great drawing but why is VVD crying spunk?!

Hopefully, Southampton go ahead and file a complaint if they happen to possess strong evidence

Just read Carragher's tweet and he mentioned that Soton would not have minded about the "tapping up" as everyone does it via agents etc but it appears someone at lfc spouted his mouth off to local press saying VVD wanted to join them.

Media yesterday had been saying that Klopp had been texting/meeting up with Van Dijk. Leak somewhere. There's a photoshop on the LFC subreddit of Klopp and Van Dijk on the Big Dipper.
They have cocked up so many transfers over the years it's completely embarrassing.

I wonder why they have ended interest though.

All Chelsea got for for the same crime was a mere fine.

Haha they must have done some pretty big tapping up to go public, apologise and pull out of any deal.

So the ITK claiming agreement on a fee of 44m plus 8m in addons should be publicly shamed now. Something tells me that Southampton didn't take part in that agreement.

Funny that Liverpool apologise for sometying every club does.

Would love to know the details of what really happened... just seems odd as I thought tapping up was the norm?

That statement though!

This is amazing, has a club ever issued such a statement before? All the big clubs are tapping players up, surely. I find it very strange they needed to release this statement, unless they really feared a transfer ban.

Tapping up probably is but definite proof most likely isn't. Someone definitely let some proof slip.

Hilarious cos you're laughing, understandably. Smart so we can spend that supposed £200m and not get banned.

Ridiculous that we have Leak at the club.
What makes you so sure you are out of the woods yet?

What's the precedent for FA punishments on things like this?

I don't really pay much attention to that aspect so don't know the ins and outs. I just find it strange as I've never heard a club apologising for that.

In any case you're right, "someone definitely let some proof slip":lol:

Go on Southampton, go ahead and proceed with your claim.

I thought this was the second time that this happened with Liverpool and a Southampton player.

*Edit - I think it was Robbie Keane from Spurs who they tapped up.

Tapping up is the norm. Problem only arises when someone leaks physical evidence. I think the FA have bottled it by letting us apologise and withdraw.

Hilarious and sad situation in the same time for Liverpool as a football club for handling this transfer. Clubs usually cross the line but not to that extent. They should know better at that level. If they don't sign him after all, the situation would become even more ridiculous.

Surely not?!
Here's article on it: http://www.independent.ie/sport/soc...pping-up-storm-gathers-momentum-35797411.html

Specifics were that Klopp and Van Dijk met in Blackpool. Here's the photoshop on reddit.

Seems VVD cried about the deal falling through by removing Southampton related stuff from twitter for a bit (its back now)

Funny that Liverpool apologise for sometying every club does.

Generally every club does it through an agent, so any direct engagement is impossible to prove.

Liverpool have clearly been caught talking directly to VVD without Southampton's permission and Southampton have called them out on it.

I disagree that Bailly is poor on the ball. He's perfectly sound if unspectacular for a 'defence first' type, buy Van Dijk is a really quality ball player. With Varane completely off the cards now it looks like DeGea may stay, he would be the perfect profile in terms of age, style and experience to partner Bailly. Only question is if he's worth that sort of cash. But with a part exchange, he definitely could be. Personally I'd let them have Smalling AND Jones, plus £25m.
