All the hallmarks of a damage limitation job to the FA to avoid a transfer ban here.

This is hilarious, smart, ridiculous all in one. VDV will be a visibly happy worker back at Southampton.

£40m bids incoming from Manchester.

Already banned from signing youth players, when will they learn?

Absolutely and obviously crapping it, and that is why the statement.

That apology statement makes the matter even more funny than what it was.

Smart? :lol::lol::lol:

Too quick to brief the media in order to appease their fans and actually made to look like fecking fools is the case here.

The FA should issue a statement telling Klopp he must do a Game of Thrones walk of shame in order to avoid a transfer ban.

That's what you get beating your chest in the media. Publicly boasting about tapping up. They'll still find a way to play victim no doubt.

Hilarious. From being giddy over landing a quality player to embarrassing themselves and apologising. It fecking slipped again.

This'll get entertaining on social media!
What a lovely feck up!

Can you imagine they got a transfer ban? I'd piss myself with laughter. Sadly, i think they've done this to avoid that.

We should bid for VVD now. He wants out and won't be happy at not getting his move.

The T-Shirts are already on order

 Southampton probably told them to officially apologise or they'll complain to the FA. Hopefully they make them look like cnut then report them anyway

The word "embarrassment" is often thrown around at this forum, but here it is perfectly apt

Well that was fun while it lasted.

Onwards and down/upwards

This should be something Mourinho should jump on ASAP. Smalling, Jones, Rooney, Darmian, etc should all be on the table.

Odd to see a club actually pursue a formal complaint over a transfer when it's widely known to be the standard procedure. Southampton wanting to lodge and Liverpool's pathetic apology makes me think they had some solid evidence which could land them in trouble.
Exactly, must be cut and dry. Liverpool probably didn't want to risk a points deduction / transfer ban

Everything feels like humiliation at this point. If we're not losing 4-3 to Bournemouth in the last seconds of the match, we're getting humiliated in the transfer market in the pre-season.
Worst thing about it is most fans of other clubs in our situation wouldn't even think about something like this ever occurring, but from that complaint by Southampton on, I felt like the worst case scenario's the most likely scenario.

We're a laughing stock, and rightfully so.
I'd rather see us sign nobody and then sell Coutinho in order to get relegated, because I just can't stand FSG making money on this club while doing this shit to our squad every season over.

And it's also clear that they realise what they're doing and why fans don't like it, otherwise Klopp wouldn't be forced to talk about how you don't win medals by having positive net spend.

I just don't get why they went through trouble of teaching him that line, and also promise to spend money... if they clearly don't want to spend money? Why can't they just come out and say it "hey fans, we are not spending money so have fun with season xoxo"? At least have the courtesy of taking the fans out to wine and dine before the merciless painful shagging.
