I see you're taking the Lindelof approach to defending.
I see you're taking the Lindelof approach to defending.
You seriously can’t read, can you?So let's get it straight, you're completely happy with the way that second goal was conceded innit?
Because the defenders can do whatever the feck they want if the attackers score 4 goals per match?
Considering this is the Lindelof hate thread Bailly would probably stopped both goals, kept a clean sheet, and scored a hat trick. How would have Bailly done ? Genuine question
Plus everyone would be calling Lindelof weak for getting dropped to the bench.Considering this is the Lindelof hate thread Bailly would probably stopped both goals, kept a clean sheet, and scored a hat trick.
It's incredible that you've actually used this picture as evidence of Lindelof being largely at fault. The comment next it AWB is just dripping with agenda. Of course AWB should to free to frolic in the empty space behind him! Naughty Lindelof!
I think you should watch this at 00:20 before you make this kind of statement again.Smalling deals with that all day every day. It's a shambles that Lindelof is ahead of him in our pecking order.
Yeah and that's why I said that a CB upgrade is a must considering how many times Lindelof's lack of aggression, lack of aerial ability has cost us. He literally has no standout quality. You seriously can’t read, can you?
Lindelof and AWB were very poor in that situation and it cost a goal. Our attaclears cost us many goals. That’s why we lost today.

3 goals away from best defence in the PL.Yeah and that's why I said that a CB upgrade is a must considering how many times Lindelof's lack of aggression, lack of aerial ability has cost us. He literally has no standout quality.
People thinking that adding only a new attacker will help us win games while these defenders continue to be brainless while defending, are in for a shock.
Apparently not.I've watched enough of Smalling here to know he'd have defended that situation tonight.
In the air, yes, he would've.Apparat not.
100% - Smalling does everything better than Lindelof in terms of actual defending, but because he can't hit a sexy pass he gets lampooned by some of our 'fans'. That second goal never happens with Smalling's pace and aerial ability. Simple as that.I've watched enough of Smalling here to know he'd have defended that situation tonight.
This kind of speculation that it could never have happened if Smalling played is ridiculous. It’s like he never lost an aerial. Never was out of position. Never made a mistake. As I just showed in a clip things like this and worse happens also with Smalling. And with other defenders, top notch defenders. Anybody who has watched the CL quarters needs two hands’ fingers to count costly CB mistakes.Lindelof simply isn't good enough and a top CB is as much a priority as Sancho.

AWB's fault or not, chances like that happen in games and he should have done better. That is what defending is all about. I hope Smalling comes back so at least Ole can try more CB combinations with Smalling in there and see if it improves us defensively. No more of this "but he's good on the ball, modern CB" bullshit.
Finally some senseWatching second goal again I think I was a little bit harsh on him. While he fecked up in the air, the goal is about 90% AWB's fault. He literally left his man run toward the ball on his own and stood still as if he forgot he's playing the game!
You also forgot the part where he was our best defender since Rio and Vida. Yes the bar has been lowered but he was. Hence why i was very disappointed when he left on loan. He could have been useful as an option.Smalling had many disastrous defending with us so I'm not sure why you and many others are treating him as if he's the solution now, when he hasn't been for years for United.

The Lucas Leiva syndrome. Smalling is gonna be better than Rio if he doesn’t play for us for another season.Bailly and Smalling as replacements
People who do not play always are in form.
Because the bar was so low. Always injured Bailly, Rojo and Jones had no chance being ahead of him. Too much revisionism here. It was not like clubs were lining up for him.You also forgot the part where he was our best defender since Rio and Vida. Yes the bar has been lowered but he was. It's easy to talk about specific mistakes but I prefer to see the bigger picture where again Smalling was our best defender before Maguire came. For years.
Not saviour and solution but an option. You missed my point. I said because he was the best out of the bunch we had and he's proven it over the years, and it doesn't look like we'll sign a new CB this window. Smalling could be an option to be Maguire's partner at the back. He should be ahead of the rest, at least on par with Lindelof and behind Maguire in the pecking order. To go forward where? next season we'll probably have the same options plus Mengi, but he's still 18.He was the best of a lot consisting of Rojo, Bailly, Phill Jones and stuff. Hardly an achievement. The reality is Smalling was never the answer for United's defense problem in past years so treating him as the savior and solution now just doesn't make sense for me. If we want to upgrade on Lindelof, we'll need to buy someone new. Smalling had his chance and time at United. I'll like him as squad option on the bench but he's not going to be anything more than that at a team wanting to go forward.

And any talk of "useful as an option" is pointless.
Since Roma didn't extend his loan, I wasn't talking about last season. He left because he didn't want to be 2nd choice

As per reports at least, it seems he is trying hard to lower his wages and see if Roma and United can reach a deal. He wants to stay there and be first choice, rather be an option here.Since Roma didn't extend his loan, I wasn't talking about last season.
Yep and I completely agree with that. But if we don't then I'm okay with relying on Smalling and Lindelof competing for the 2nd CB role, at least for one more season. He would be a good squad option for us sure but he shouldn't be a starter that's all. If we want to be a title challenging team and think Lindelof isn't good enough for that, we'll have to buy a new main CB from the market.
3 goals away from best defence in the PL.
36 goals away from best goal scoring team.
Every CB makes a mistake once in a while, but the United defence has been pretty solid overall this season.
I see you're taking the Lindelof approach to defending.
Are you suggesting Neville never had to cover his CBs and they never got caught of of position?
He's kinda guilty on the first goal also... if you're coming up that far out, better block the channel and put the ball out of touch

Roll it back a few frames won't you?
Because all top defenders go on apologising to entire team when they make mistakesWorst part about his game is his unwillingness to just man up and accept he fecked up.
Just go pointing fingers and moan at others while he does feck all and keeps standing off attackers expecting people to go where he points.
