We could definitely upgrade, but don't think he's as terrible as people suggest. He's not aggressive enough, but his reading of the game is good. He looks much better against teams that don't play long ball, and rarely dives in on 1 v 1's.

In Eurpoe, I think he would look much better. On that Antonio chance, he doesn't cover himself in glory, but at least he was there to challenge Antonio. Where the hell was TFM? Watching it happen when he should have been at the back post doubling up on the danger.

I would 100% replace him for someone more commanding and aggressive, with more pace to complement Maguire. However, I would still have him as a comfortable and reliable third choice. He gets out muscled, but his concentration is good, doesn't make many mistakes, and is decent on the ball. Won't get us to where we want to go, but a very decent squad option IMO.

His reading of the game is not good. He was caught wrong side of his man twice leading to goals in our last three games. He regularly misjudges the ball in the air too.

He's just not as obviously kamikaze as Bailly, Jones and Rojo.

Sorry don't believe a word of that.

The ball was coming in a looping arc, it was dropping out of the sky from crossbar height. All he had to do was jump and head the ball, but instead he bent over? perhaps he was anticipating Antonio about to jump into him and got scared/tried to protect himself, but I genuinely cannot think of any other CB that deals with it that way. Jump early and head it clear. He's lucky Antonio wasn't close enough to take advantage.

You're not demonstrating a good understanding of geometry here, I'm afraid.

Jump early and head clear is the ideal, as I stated above, but Lindelof isn't in a position where he can do that. He needs to be two or three yards to his right because of the flight of the ball, but since he's staying tight to Antonio (and goal side of him i.e. not "lucky" that Anotnio wasn't closer) he cannot. I am generally very critical of Lindelof but in that situation he did the right thing, which was get his head to it anyway he can while marking his man tightly.

Geometry isn't the reason he didn't head that properly

Well that's another good point, he's so slow to get into positon this is what causes the whole issue.

Look at the Line Maguire and Williams are holding in the box, then you have Lindelof ambling into position. The correct way to defend that ball is jump into it, but because he's so late arriving he has to improvise.

I'm sorry but no nobody can convince me he's a good enough defender especially aerially. When the ball is on the floor he's alright but you have to have more presence in the premier league.

Anyway from most reports we're after another CB so I don't see Lindelof lasting long.

This is the problem posters seem to have with Lindelof. They seem to see someone who has a complete lack of wanting to engage and win the ball, constantly running back and dropping off as someone who is composed and is great positionally. Thats not the case. He drops so far back because he needs all that time to react to get to the ball first. Thats a combination of not being very quick and not having a great ability to read the game. If he was great at reading the game he wouldn't need to drop off so much.

He gets by because we have some other players picking up the slack, AWB and Shaw are good ball winners who dont let their opponents get past them too often, Maguire aggressively moves towards the ball to try and intercept and Maguire will try to deal with most of the balls in the air.

One problem we do have for sure is in the air. First we have De Gea who doesnt come for crossses. Then we have Lindelof who isnt very good in the air. Then we have AWB who isnt very good in the air either. So if a cross comes into the area between Lindelof and AWB, Maguire is unlikely to be able to help much and De Gea wont come out for it. So that left side of the opponent's attack can feel confident of getting on the end of crosses to that area. As I've said before this isnt all down to Lindelof. We just happen to have the worst kind of keeper to be in the same side as him and its AWB's weakness too. So other players around him also being weak in the air just makes it a bigger issue that Lindelof himself isnt good in the air

The geometry of the situation is precisely why he plays that ball the way he did (position, trajectory, etc). Was it ideal? No, but as a defender you have to balance the risks and make the best decision possible in each moment.

He is in the position he was in because he was marking Antonio tightly. If he rushes to try and meet that ball higher up in its arc and misses, Antonio is unmarked and scores. If anything, Maguire should be intercepting that ball earlier in its trajectory.

He needs to be more agressive in a number of different situations and is usually disappointing in the air but he played that particular one well yesterday.

The last one breaching 100th pages.

Remember we complain a lot about him making mistakes, panicking to fluff chances and the schoolboy errors. This season is less of those and more 'not good enough' in some moments in comparison.

Leicester 0:2 Man Utd
Easily the best player on the pitch. One man defence at times.

Together with Matic, our best player today. Really good performance from him.

Fair play to Lindelöf. I think most know I’m not a fan of him usually but he was excellent today.

How many games is that now where the usual candidates state he's going to get destroyed by X only for him not to put a foot wrong? Superb performance.

Vardy barely had a sniff. Brilliant job by Lindelof, I thought he'd struggle.

Waiting for the usual suspects to produce some stats that show he didn’t play well.

I have slagged Lindelof off more than once but today he was really, really good.

Made one mistake in misjudging a cross but was otherwise very strong.

Our best CB with a crucial MOTM performance. Just needs a fast partner who's dominant in the air and good on the ball.

Strong performance today, assured in his defending, stood out when so many across the 2 teams looked terrified of the consequences of a mistake.

Man of the match for me. Cleaned out alot of Maguires misjudgements

Completely incorrect

He got booked for a sliding challenge that was late on Vardy, gave away a freekick. If that isnt a failed tackle what is?
So not completely incorrect

Credit to him, he generally does well in big games. Has done very well before in the CL.

Our best defender since the restart

MOTM today, stopped some dangerous moves by Leicester and handled Vardy well today.
