Victor Gyökeres

I know it's not me you are asking, but Evan Ferguson, Jhon Durán, Benjamin Sesko would be the three most exciting options IMO...but I don't see the need for another project striker...so Danny Welbeck as a rotational option would be my pick. No, that's not a joke.

A striker is more important than all those, we haven’t got one!
I’d prefer this guy over osimhen if I had to choose
I agree. He’s built for the prem. a bit like Haaland but he offers more in terms of work rate.

This guy could solve one problem but we still have a few others. He ain’t going to help us stop conceding set pieces and crosses. But he could bang in some goals depending on if we create any, which we have created quite a lot in games to be fair under Amorim.

He's pretty good in the air, so he might.

Surely we have about 5 other priorities before CF? In no particular order LWB, CM, LCB, left #10, keeper?

I agree with you. Out-and-out LWB, athletic space eater LCB, and expansive passer in the midfield (preferably a #6 but an #8 would be great too) are the 3 biggest priorities.

Sesko will go for an exorbitant amount. I think he’ll be special eventually, but right now the reports are he isn’t pulling up trees in the happy go lucky Bundesliga. Ferguson may well come good, but he’s far from assured; injuries might have already ruined him and he’d be very expensive. Duran has just signed a new contract at money bags Villa?

I think it’s fair to say that unless a gem is unearthed, the market is very expensive and very uncertain, especially when we come a knocking. Clubs know we’re primed to be rinsed, so there’s going to be excessive United Tax attached. Very unenviable task being the guy signing off on this striker purchase.

£80m for a player our recently departed director of football sold to Coventry for the pricey sum of £1m just over 3 1/2 years ago.

This is very important. I hate to say it but I don’t think we’ve had a world class passer since Pogba. We can’t string a simple 5 yard pass together. I feel like we need to recruit a Spanish magician in midfield, the Spanish love passing in there game.

That won’t be his main job though. And we struggle even on regular crosses where he’s going to be up the other end of the pitch.

We mostly struggle with that because our defenders have no clue where they are supposed to be or who they are supposed to mark - that will get better.

The problem is that the striker position has been an unforgiving one at United for a long time now. Even an established striker would struggle IMO, let alone project strikers like Hojlund or Zirkzee, who are expected to have immediate impact by the fans. We could probably unearth the next Ronaldo Nazario, and he still wouldn't look that great upfront in this United side.

The environment is the most important thing for any player, but I think especially strikers. Just look at how Haaland's been anonymous for City ever since they started going downhill, whilst people were expecting him to break all sorts of records with the form he was in just before that. And we're talking about the greatest goalscorer in the world.

A bit mental the summer we're buying Hojlund for 70 mill at 20 years old while Sporting are buying Gyokeres for 20m at 25 years old.

Really we should've been looking at him as a low risk transfer, he's at the right age and possibly has better attributes. Could've offered a bit more than Sporting. He may well find it difficult outside of Portugal like Felix, Nunez and Ramos so paying 150m for Hojlund and Gyokeres could really backfire.

Hopefully Gyokeres can play well for us and Hojlund can play other games and be used as a sub so to not burn out Gyokeres. We do need players to rotate but Hojlund at 70 mill he would've been probably better off staying in Italy to develop and we keep an eye on him, or move on to other targets. Perhaps Gyokeres and Toney instead of a 70m long shot and 4-5 year wait.

I seriously doubt we're interested in him. The club and scouting department will be aware he's not nearly as good as he's been made out to be.
This is possible because after knowing how the club and our scouting department picked to spend 70m on Hojlund, while ignore the chance to sign Gyokeres for 20m. They always do something shocking and non-sensible.

Unless Hojlund and Zirkzee can surprise us in the remainder of the season, I think we have to sign him. Hopefully, that GBP60m rumored price is possible.

We need to be a bit canny and target players who've run down their contacts. Like when Fergie managed to pick up Van Persie for just £22m.

Jonathan David is available on a free in the summer. Is he good enough? Who knows. But he's free.

Yeah have never been convinced about David

It's incredible but casemiro is only 32 and has been spent for over a year
This is what is most infuriating, at 32 he should still be at the tailend of his prime and still more than good enough for a top 4 chasing United. Has he been badly managed or he just lacks the motivation to keep himself fit and sharp?

Will it? Because it seems like it’s getting worse. The Arsenal game should have seen us improve on that aspect since we lost that game due to 2 set pieces. Teams can target us there now

I'm kinda baffled as to why so many are confident he would be willing to join us in our current state when he could have his pick of clubs in the summer. Arsenal needs a striker, Pool will be looking to replace Darwin soon, PSG needs a striker, surely you join them over us right now.

No guarantee this lad will do well with the amount of service he’d get here. Probably not to far off what Hojlund is banging in.
Manay, many positions to address before we spend big in my opinion. Sort out the playing style so that it works would be a good start.
Smacks of a summer signing if at all.

This. Hence my earlier "other priorities" comment. There still seems to be a lot of people whose analysis is "we don't score so we need a striker". Maybe they're all Rachel Reeves' puppet accounts.

Anyone could do that in the Portuguese league.

Someone rubbish like Rashford would be on 50 by now.

It is literally there in the tweet, no one but him (apart from Messi, CR7 and Lewa) has done it.

One does not simple sell Rasmutazz. :nono:
We will ship him out in 2-3 years anyway, in the meantime we will just spend enough time blindly hoping he somehow takes a massive leap in his development, up until a point where his value plummets to almost nothing. We've seen that before, many times.

Yet he has shown glimpses of being a quality player a goal prolific striker. Why the pessimism?

I just don't see it with him, at all. Think it's yet another case of us going for a player with a (very) limited potential and fan base trying to delude themselves into thinking that he's going to fix everything that's wrong with his game and become top class. Hope I'm wrong here but I don't think I am.

I don’t get those saying a striker isn't a priority, that we should sort other areas first. If you think there's a striker out there who can get you a good amount of goals you get him. They are that rare. Especially for a team that struggles for goals.

Bit there's no doubt this guy is a gamble. We just don't know if the almost overnight increase in goals is down to him maturing or playing in Portugal for the dominant team.

Amorim. If he wasn't here I don't think anyone would assume he would join us. He probably wouldn't even be on many people's radar at all.

This has got flop written all over it for the money being touted. Especially when the current Utd players will be offering sod all support. We need to take a sensible gamble on getting 4 no. £30m-ish players in multiple positions for the system adopted (the approach we should have taken a number of years ago)

Kind of baffled to see so many questioning this transfer. Victor Gyokeres is the exact type of player who we should have been going for in our transfers, an up and coming player having a breakout season. One cannot score 60+ goals in a season without being an elite goalscorer and that is exactly what he is, an elite goalscorer that can carry the ball and bring others into the game as can be seen in his goal scoring videos.

The benefits for this transfer far outweigh the risks:
- He is 26 year old, could potentially be part of the club for 5+ years. With hojlund as backup, our strikers would be sorted.
- He is familiar with Amorim's system, helping others get familiar with the system.
- He is familiar with the physicality of english leagues.
- With bruno there to provide chances, he could score 10+ goals this season alone, improving our position.
