Victor Gyökeres

He was a very weird idea. It makes sense to bring in a striker that is different to the options you already have and he clearly checked that mark but the problem with it is - that both are very young, both aren't established, both actually need minutes and none of them should be expected to lead the line for a club that tries to actually compete. It made some sense to bring in Hojlund but we should have brought somebody in on top to take the pressure off of him. We failed at that and a year later, when we do, we bring in another youngster. That doesn't seem to be good squad composition. Whether he fits or not or how good he is, is difficult to say, there is a chance, that he doesn't suit the PL. But United these days makes averybody look worse than he is and JZ came at a rather moderate price and will be able to be sold for at least something.
He's slower than dirt...guys like him are easy to mark bc you know he can't out run you which allows the defender to take risks and really put him under pressure at all times

I agree. I am also a bit disappointed by that. I think, he is the sort of striker, that could work well with fast runners either side like Rashford and Garnacho. As he is able to hold up to some degree and he also has a good eye for a final ball. Thats what I mean, right now, everything being shit makes everyone look even worse as they are.

I guess, we'd be on the same page when a sale would be considered. I wouldn't have went for him either.

vs Haaland this season, he is more dynamic than him.

The only thing I’m not keen on with this guy is that he drifts out wide a lot of the time during games. We need a focal point, someone to stay central.

I mean, it's quite hard to argue his playing style wouldn't be the right option for us in an Amorim side?

He was the main striker in Amorim's system, he drifts out wide to stretch teams and make space for the No10's to score.

If that’s what we want to play then it won’t suit Bruno as he lacks of pace to exploit the space. And instead of spending big money on striker who drifts out wide to stretch teams, we might should just coach Zirkzee to do that and sign a goalscorer no 10 who has dribbling skills and pace.

I think there’s probably more chance of coaching Bruno to exploit that space as there is of getting Zirkzee to play the same role as Gyokeres.

Isnt that a good thing? Adds more dimension to the attack. So teams cant just clog him and make us not able to score goals. Like Haaland, never liked his style.

Fair enough, it worked for sporting but we have a lot tougher defenders in this league.

Bruno won't suit Amorim's system, he does not suit the 8 position or the 10 for Amorim's style. Luckily he's getting close to 30 and we could use that as an excuse to move him on.

So we have to buy two number 10s to accommodate him
One No10 (as we already have Diallo) to suit Amorim's system not him as his running of the channels is part of the instructions from Amorim.

Yeah he has proper stat attacked him, big question is can he do it outside of Portugal. Appreciate he was at Coventry but leading the line at Utd is a totally different level

Ruben clearly stated he wouldn’t go for any sporting players mid season. Doesn’t strike me as someone that would go back on his word.
Even if a reliable source like The Mirror say otherwise?

I mean not to be pedantic, but its not him responsible for transfers. Berrada, Wilcox and co could decide he's having him as early as January, and Amorim can only shrug his shoulders and absolve himself. He could in theory attempt to veto it on sentimental grounds, but as someone who's probably in a slightly precarious position, I doubt he'd be so stubbornly principled. And lest we forget Mr Decent bloke himself Moyes gave his word he wouldn't go for any of Everton's players, only to go all in on Fellaini and Baines towards the end of the season

But it would be a dick move from us for sure.

I’m certain there is at least a handshake agreement that he wouldn’t poach players if he was leaving mid season. One for the summer and fills a priority position.

Sporting have already sacked the guy brought in to replace Amorim, I'm sure they gave him some assurances when he was hired also.

A lot changes in a few months in football.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if United did go in for Gyokeres in Jan.
