Victor Gyökeres

It's also just a nonsensical argument. By that logic, we shouldn't get any striker in the summer, because no strikers would get service here.

If we got Gyokeres he would likely score fewer goals than he is doing right now, but he would still improve us immensely. Any quality forward would, because right now we are basically playing without one.
exactly

In a world where Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea are all in for strikers, I'd be surprised if we're able to compete for the likes of Gyokeres and Osimhen. And if we have a free run at either, I'd be concerned that they know something we don't.

Yeah he's too good to join a team that are 14th in the league! If Newcastle sell Isak they will potentially be interested too, maybe Barcelona will see him as a Lewandowski replacement also.

We don't have the finances or the attractiveness to get a player like Gyokeres right now sadly.

There's no way Gyokeres goes anywhere other than United if we want him. Beyond the fact that United are the biggest football club in the English speaking world, his former coach is also here and the wages will be higher than most other places. Its a perfect fit and there won't be any financial issue to sign him, especially given that we're almost certainly selling two of Rashford, Garnacho, and Mainoo. Its even more realistic when you consider the likes of Antony, Casemiro, Mount, Shaw, and Sancho could be sold as well.

Sancho is practically already sold, but except for Antony I'm preparing for the worst on the rest. Casemiro has said he wants to see out his contract, and who would touch Mount and Shaw given their injury troubles?

I think most of these guys won't be with us next year. Sancho is obviously gone, there's no way Amorim would allow a player like him near his squad, especially after all that's happened with Rashford. Casemiro may want to stay, but he's barely useable to Amorim now, and he would be pointless to keep. So a loan where we cover most of his wages would probably be in order - or else Saudi. Mount and Shaw are still good players when healthy (which both will be by summer), so there will be plenty of English clubs in the market. I wouldn't mind keeping Mount since he's been unfortunate with his injuries, which will at some point subside and a very good player will emerge. Antony is pretty much gone given that his style was much better suited to ETH, and he wouldn't see much action with Amad here. All things said, I'm expecting a massive clear out of dead wood, so there shouldn't be any issue signing 3 or 4 quality players, Gyokeres among them.

I mean, friggin Obi could've ended up with 2 goals in the past weekend.
I'm sure Gyokeres would manage here from 'no service '.

Another couple of goals tonight.

37 goals in 39 fixtures this season.

Those goals were against Estoril Praia.. That's like an equivalent of a pub team. Their centre backs are worth 500k each.
The defence was laughable. He won't be walking through defences like that in the Premier League.

I'm not too sold on us buying Gyökeres
Like I already said Darwin Núñez was scoring just as many goals with Benfica, look how he turned out.
I'd rather we got a striker proven in a more difficult league.

I don't buy the Darwin Nunes argument. By that logic, we wouldn't ever buy players from Portugal because they came from a lesser league. That would include the likes of CR7, Nani, and Bruno. Nor would players like Lewandoski, Kvaratskhelia, and many others who once came from lesser leagues ever see the light of day at big clubs.

If Gyokeres were overrated, we wouldn't be seeing clubs like United, Arsenal, Bayern, and others linked to him.

You are a lot more optimistic than me. For Casemiro, I think you are discounting his desire to stay in Manchester, where his family is settled. He is well within his rights to just pick up his salary and train for a year, if Amorim doesn't want to use him. Shaw will be 30 in the summer and will be coming off the back of two consecutive seasons with less than 20 appearances combined. Mount still has age on his side, which is good, but has a similar appearance record to Shaw over the last two season. They won't be hot prospects.

—— Gyokeres
— Bruno — Mount

Could be pretty tasty

Especially with a left footed, tough tackling playmaker alongside Ugarte in midfield. Apparently new rumours about that Barca kid

Get Chris Rigg in for squad depth
Keep Collyer

Looking tidy in the middle all of a suggest

I can't see Amorim or the club's football logic being swayed by Casemiro's family being settled in. They will almost certainly try to get him and his salary off the books this summer. It would be bad business to simply keep him a 300k/week 33 year old bench player loitering around for a year.
Yeah, but who do you think has the final say here? Will they force Casemiro to sign a loan contract at gunpoint?

Guys stop planning with Mount. He'll never be something more than an injury-prone, expensive rotational player.

He will be 27 in June, he's coming in to his prime years. He isn't going to turn down Arsenal or Liverpool just because Amorim is our manager!

There's no certainty whatsoever in selling the players you mentioned either. We tried to sell them in January and there wasn't any takers! They are all on far bigger wages than clubs at their level can afford.

Who's this?

Anyway - I think for starters there's a real lack of pace and dynamism in that AM pairing, but also Mount can't be accounted for in squad building - it's essentially a pure bonus if he is fit and available at this point.

Rigg and Collyer as the remaining options in midfield is a real dearth of experience too at this level.

EDIT: Nevermind, read that as Boca for some reason not Barca  - realised you meant Marc Casado.

You have to love this club sometimes.

We had Ole and we couldn't get Haaland who played under him

We have Amorim and we're not going to get Gyokeres who played under him

We're the worst for leveraging favourable relationships to get elite talent.

There is no way he comes to United. He will go to Arsenal, Liverpool or the like.

Tbf the reason we’re not going to sign Gyokeres is purely financial. Had Amorim come in during the summer I’m sure we’d have been all over it. Unfortunately due to massive levels of incompetence over the last decade the days of us shelling out huge fees for players are over for the immediate future.

Yep, cant argue with that i suppose. I wouldn't include Ronaldo there as he was beeing talked about all over from when he was just 16.

My only argument is that Gykores kind of came out of the blue, as no one was talking about him a couple of years back.

It's so annoying, we have already spent 70m on a striker, 70m on a defender, 50m on a goalie, 55 on midfielder yet here we are again in need of all the above.

I still feel the Portuguese league is full of championship level teams though. He isn't going to have defending like that here.

You may be underplaying the lure of coming to United. Even this terrible version of United is a comparable draw to Arsenal, Bayern, Chelsea, Liverpool, and City - despite the lack of CL football in year one. United are still the biggest brand in the English speaking world, which isn't going to change anytime soon.

I think you are overplaying it, we aren't a comparable draw to the top European clubs anymore sadly.

It's a moot point anyway because it's been made clear that our transfer strategy is to sign young players for a reasonable fee on reasonable wages. We aren't going to be paying a big transfer fee for a 27 year old looking for his first big contract. We are more likely to be in for somebody like Liam Delap.

There's really no evidence for what you're saying. We've been mediocre for over a decade and have consistently attracted good players. What those players didn't have was a club infrastructure that could create and sustain a winning culture. The players themselves have always wanted to come to United. And no, we're not buying Delap. All the big clubs prioritize top strikers, or else a player like Salah who can consistently score goals. Amorim's United, just as Amorim's Sporting, won't be any different.
