VAR, Refs and Linesmen | General Discussion

I was watching the game. It was an unfortunate incident. There's an argument for a yellow for dangerous play but there was clearly no intent to endanger an opponent. Do we want to take overhead kicks out of the game?

Intent doesn't matter when it very obviously endangers an opponent - and yes, overhead kicks in crowded areas when you know you're marked tightly have no place in the game whatsofeckingever.

I'm not convinced convinced by the red card for Pope. I'm not sure its deliberate. And I'm convinced if that was an outfield player the worst they would get is a yellow card if that.
Of course it was deliberate. He moved his hand towards the ball and dragged it towards him. It’s not even close. An outfield player may get a yellow because there wouldn’t be an empty net behind them.

This website is mental, he literally went to pick the ball up.

So Sabitzer ? Yellow ? Red ? No follow through and probably not enough force but what did he even think about doing with his studs at that angle ? You usually try to control & drag the ball back not keep going towards his knee.

Nothing for me

Perfect example of needing VAR right there.
Rule seems to be if it’s very close at an angle then it’s on when angle goes straight on

Probably lucky it wasn't a red

Great call and credit to the VAR ref. Thought it was off instantly and didn’t even notice the guy in the middle.

The handball in the Spurs game is laughable. One of the most blatant handballs you'll ever see.

David Coote on VAR is probably the worst ref in the country though so it's really no surprise he's not given it. He is an utter moron.

Am I wrong or has he been appointed the ref for the cup final?

Not much chatter about the Azpilicueta injury.

This is the kind of thing that makes zero sense about football rules to me.

How on earth can you karate kick somebody on the chin, knock them clean out and not even recieve a yellow card for it

Yet we have Casemiro grab somebody by the collar and it's an instant 3 game ban.

Where is the logic in that? I really don't get it. I know it was an accident, but it's still dangerous play. How could it be any more dangerous?

Var became more and more obscure. Clear red cards not given, penalties not given, even a clear offside not given. A red card for grabbing somebodies collar and no red card for grabbing somebodies collar in the same scene.

We've had 2/3 'rumbles after that too.

Liverpool/Everton, Aston Villa v Arsenal where similar incidents have happened, but they don't bat an eyelid.

Webb has made it much worse than it was. It was showing signs at times of being better and they just changed things this season and we're having the worst decisions after reviews. It's actually insane.

There is no consistency at all

So basically UCL VaR refs are shit too. That was a shocking call at the end. Blatant penalty to Man City. The Leipzig player volleyballed it away.

It’s been awful in Europe as well. Somehow that is not a penalty but the Martinez one was be Sociedad. Madness

This is a knockout game in the champions league and we are told they didn’t check it. How is this real

I bet City fans were livid when we got a penalty "after the final whistle" against Brighton, so they'll be delighted this wasn't checked for them.

Had an argument last night with a City fan who told me ‘United get EVERYTHING’

Rolled off the Rashford goal, the Sabitzer ‘definite’ red ‘leg breaker’, but had no idea about Andy Carroll, Weghorst goal v Leeds and told me that Casemiro slapped will hughes.

Isn't there a video that shows it comes off his shoulder, so not a penalty?
