VAR and Refs | General Discussion

Havertz allowed to swan dive without punishment.

Diving is 100% reward, 0% risk and it is all referee's faults for being too frightened to book players. Spineless cnuts.

That pull back on the Arsenal player was not too dissimilar to what Hojlund got penalised for against City for us. I’ve seen a few of them since we had that penalty given against us. None given.

Gabriel fouled the Brentford player first. It was similar to Haaland vs Cucurella a few months back where Haaland fouled Cucurella to get ahead then got a penalty because Cucurella tugged his shirt after he got ahead.

Why didnt they go to VAR for the possible Paulinha second yellow? Felt like it was a pretty solid yellow card offense. Is that the issue...because it was not a red card offense?
VAR is not involved in yellow cards

A shout out for Simon Hooper today. He was the ref who was crucified by the media and PGMOL for not awarding a late penalty against Onana in the opening match against Wolves.

It was refreshing to see that he isn't controlled by the media and Howard Webb's mafia, and had no hesitation in awarding us two penalties in the first half. It would have been a third as well, but for a linesman flagging Rashford offside at the death.

I don't think he should do it but I also don't think it warrants talking about. Especially when these ex-referees are so reluctant to criticise their own for the most part. I do wonder why he's chosen to criticise Gill. New referee, not fitting in the old boys club?

Old white male unhappy and critcizes a brown man that's new to the top level of his progessions.

Why am I not surprised.

I was thinking the same.

It is not referees job to sign autographs during games. It is wrong. However, Mike Dean should maybe start talking about referees and VAR decisions that have gone against us during this season. I see that as bigger problem.

Who the feck wants an official's autograph? That's ridiculous.

It's just kids, it would seem. When I was a kid our school took us to some European Union convention or whatever, and I remember asking for an autograph from a small time local politician simply because he was famous at the time and asking for autographs is what you do when you meet famous people. Turned out to be a crook later on.

I went to many sporting events as a child and never once thought about getting a referee, official, or umpire's autograph. I never saw them as stars of the show, it was the athletes first and coaching staffs second and possibly a media figure like a TV/radio commentator if available.

Mike Dean is fuming with Sunny Singh Gill after he REFUSED to sign autographs for children at his first premier league match. “He’s not helping himself” Dean said.

Oh feck off Mike Dean you absolute Cnut. I didn’t see signing autographs affecting his refereeing. Amazing how Dean calls this out and stays silent on all of the other bad decisions his friends make.
Including that time he was VAR and he admitted he didn’t call a ref over because he felt it would be tough for the ref

Dermot has a really irritating way of phrasing things doesn’t he? What he’s trying to say in the above clip is that, in his view, it’s a penalty. However, he can’t just say that but instead has to dance around it by saying how it’s “easy to give” a penalty.

An obvious example of where Oliver should go to the screen. He’s the wrong side to see the incident properly and it makes complete sense for him to go and re-watch it to make sure he’s still happy with his decision having actually, you know, seen it properly. He might still have decided not to give it, which I can just about see, but it would be a much better way to deal with it.

I still can't understand how it isn't a pen even if he gets the ball. How, in modern football is the follow through not a foul?

It's not even whether or not he gets the ball first, it's the height of his foot and where he connects with the Liverpool player that makes it a foul.

Ridiculous refereeing and I think Jay Bothroyd is right when he says in that clip they just didn't want the game to be decided by penalty.

On the flip side to all the Oliver accusations, one of the main headlines on Sky Sports right now is ‘How much has VAR cost Liverpool this season?’
Ex Liverpool and media bias is ridiculous.
You would never get an article like that on United who have subjectively been bummed way more than Liverpool by VAR and referees

Liverpool benefited against Burnley when Mac Allister kicked someone's shin and then hurled himself to the ground as the Burnley players awaited a foul to be given. Liverpool then scored.

Watching match of the day and seeing Reguilon's red card I think its a pen but im not convinced its a red card as that doest look like denial of a clear goalscoring oppurtunity to me.

Can't have anything stop the pep v klopp cup final farewell circle jerk

Disgraceful how that can be allowed.

That's your typical foul the ref will blow instantly for. They know they can goal hang and bundle over our players, outnumbering us and ref will play on. If that's at the other end it's a foul on the Liverpool player and the game stops.

What shitty goal that was, you can tell that was dodgy just how it unfolded, 99.9% that's the play stopped. If you play on it resembles a kick around the park game goal hanging.

Yeah its a clear foul. Textbook foul, but fernandes is an unpopular player and the recent Fulham thing annoyed people. Everybody happy to call dive. Its as clear a foul as you'll see and similar will be given at least once in second half

No way in hell was that a foul. Won cleanly, Bruno just went down expecting a foul and everyone else gave up.
