Scroll to 4:20 for a look of death at the reporter. If anyone can translate, that would be awesome
Context: Sneijder has been stripped of the captaincy by Van Gaal, roughly a year ago. Before that, for three years Sneijder had god like status. After he made RVP captain, LVG complained a lot how Sneijder isn't performing first at Inter then at Gala, mostly fitness wise issues. So LVG made clear that Sneijder might not even be selected for Brazil if he would not improve.
Over this season, Sneijder has improved, but it is still a question whether he's gonna play, looks like he at least is going to be selected. So now the interview:
Reporter basically starts asking about Sneijder in the second half of the interview. Van Gaal says he is not going into specifics regarding names/individuals, so he has nothing to say about Sneijder. Reporter keeps asking about how LVG rates Sneijder at the moment, Van Gaal keeps beating around the bush saying he won't say anything. Reporter tries one last time, after which van Gaal finally, after a minute or so says one thing about Sneijder, literally translated: 'that he is improving'. Then he pauses and gives the death stare you refered to at 4:20.
LVG not happy that he's being forced to answer. Presenter is well known in Holland, Hans Kraay Jr., was a player and is also a coach at lower levels now, his dad was also a famous player. He has had some ridiculously absurd and funny interviews with LVG the last two years after Holland national team matches.
He then went on talking about the #10 spot in general, how he LVG created that spot specially for a player like Van der Vaart or Sneijder, and that we will see next week if in the case of Sneijder, we
are or
were (in the past) talking about a Truly Great Player, like the reporter implies Sneijder still is.
Van Gaal was also not happy at all with our teams performance against Ecuador. Complained about playing in low tempo, not finding the free man in midfield while there was one, passing should be better, etc. He was not fuming, but a lot of grunting and death stares
