van Gaal joins: Official

WELCOME TO MAN UNITED VAN GAAL.

The nightmare is over.

Nice to have a winner in charge again. Someone who has more ability than a Sunday League manager(DM).

Must say finally something to be excited about :)

Just out of interest can someone explain how his 2nd spell at Barcelona was so bad?

He's exactly what we need after the Moyes debacle. A proven winner who has a clear philosophy and will leave the foundations for the next manager to work with.

Louis van Gaal said: "It was always a wish for me to work in the Premier League. To work as a manager for Manchester United, the biggest club in the world, makes me very proud. I have managed in games at Old Trafford before and know what an incredible arena Old Trafford is and how passionate and knowledgeable the fans are. This club has big ambitions; I too have big ambitions. Together I'm sure we will make history."

No hopes, no tries, but will. That is what I expect from a Manchester United manager.

"Louis joins us at an exciting time and has already communicated some great ideas for how the club can move forward. The board is right behind him in his plans and everyone here is already looking forward to the start of next season.”

The quotes on manutd.com just scream of positivity.

Couldn't be more excited about this.

Completely intrigued at how he'll set us up. Are we going to see a Total Football United team? Or will he meld club tradition with his ideas?

Some players must be absolutely shitting themselves.

Somehow it already feels a bit like the whole year with Moyes was just a bad dream. I'm not getting ahead of myself and saying van Gaal will definitely and quickly bring success, but it just feels so much more 'right' than that ever did. And in hindsight how utterly bizarrre and insane is it that David fecking Moyes managed us for a whole season

I think the Moyes era was a necessary palate cleanser.

It's been said for years that whoever followed Fergie would have an impossible job. I'm sure that even Mourinho said as much a few years ago.

It's unfortunate from DM's point of view that he turned out to be the sacrificial lamb, but hopefully LvG can reap the benefits of a de-SAFed dressing room atmosphere.

It feels like Moyes was never here! I'm so happy that van Gaal's come here. We needed someone like him after Sir Alex to take over and continue us on our path of success with attractive, exciting football.

With Giggs retiring and Ferdinand + Vidic leaving, we are certainly moving on from the old era and are starting something brand new with van Gaal

I probably wouldn't care if we lose every game as long as he is constantly dancing and shouting like a lunatic.

Which is why I've been saying that Flava Flav should have been our manager for the last 12 months.

Great to hear of his appointment today, glad it's over and now we can focus on more important stuff like getting rid of some of the deadwood in our squad.

A lot of hard work to be done over the summer but I'm optimistic we have got the right man for the job this time unlike last summer.

Also how can you not like him? Van Gaal is NUTS!:devil::devil:

The Dutch Revolution begins :D

Yeah I think that's more of a hope than a thought tbf.
A hope is a thought...

Anyway, I really do not see a United team that lost more than one in four last season to go on to win the league or even challenge, especially as a rebuild is needed so a quick start isn't a given. I'd say it was more "hope" to suggest United are in contention.

Good.

So glad this is over. It had become very tedious. I was getting really sick of seeing 'United linked with van Gaal in the meeja'

So what are we getting overexcited about next?

A part of me kinda just wants the World Cup to get over and done with to see what van Gaal can do with the team, but I mustn't let it get to me, I've been waiting 4 years for this tournament.

I can't wait! easily the best choice of manager that's available. He plays attacking football and brings his own philosophy, brings through youth players and looks to be entertaining as feck at press events and on the touchline.
I generally think it will take a season to get used to his ways though, his goal for this season should be top 4 imo, the year after he will win the league.

Wayne's done a "Welcom Lewis Ban Harl...pleese don't sak me" tweet.

When it looked like he was joining Spurs during the summer I posted this.
I noticed a few people saying we should be after Van Gaal. Let's be honest, when Fergie announced his retirement very few had him at the top of their lists to replace him. It's a bit like the transfer window: the worse we do the more people suggest silly names. I'm not saying he isn't a good manager but there were and are better overall candidates. There's a reason Van Gaal isn't at a top side. Though I'm looking forward to he and Levy falling out pretty quickly.
Obviously my account was hacked. I've always thought he was the only man for the job, even when I didn't.

 Scroll to 4:20 for a look of death at the reporter. If anyone can translate, that would be awesome

Context: Sneijder has been stripped of the captaincy by Van Gaal, roughly a year ago. Before that, for three years Sneijder had god like status. After he made RVP captain, LVG complained a lot how Sneijder isn't performing first at Inter then at Gala, mostly fitness wise issues. So LVG made clear that Sneijder might not even be selected for Brazil if he would not improve.

Over this season, Sneijder has improved, but it is still a question whether he's gonna play, looks like he at least is going to be selected. So now the interview:

Reporter basically starts asking about Sneijder in the second half of the interview. Van Gaal says he is not going into specifics regarding names/individuals, so he has nothing to say about Sneijder. Reporter keeps asking about how LVG rates Sneijder at the moment, Van Gaal keeps beating around the bush saying he won't say anything. Reporter tries one last time, after which van Gaal finally, after a minute or so says one thing about Sneijder, literally translated: 'that he is improving'. Then he pauses and gives the death stare you refered to at 4:20.

LVG not happy that he's being forced to answer. Presenter is well known in Holland, Hans Kraay Jr., was a player and is also a coach at lower levels now, his dad was also a famous player. He has had some ridiculously absurd and funny interviews with LVG the last two years after Holland national team matches.

He then went on talking about the #10 spot in general, how he LVG created that spot specially for a player like Van der Vaart or Sneijder, and that we will see next week if in the case of Sneijder, we are or were (in the past) talking about a Truly Great Player, like the reporter implies Sneijder still is.

Van Gaal was also not happy at all with our teams performance against Ecuador. Complained about playing in low tempo, not finding the free man in midfield while there was one, passing should be better, etc. He was not fuming, but a lot of grunting and death stares

It's a huge job to take on for anybody in world football. If he gets funds I expect vast improvements but I don't think a title challenge is happening next season.
I think the opposite. If we are not aiming for title challenge, we are no better than Everton nor Spurs. Granted we are still in transition and we are Fergie-less, but we at United are not renowned for second best (Sir Bobby's words), and our team knows what it takes to be the champions. If we take too much time in rebuilding, it will get harder, not easier (City, Chelsea and Liverpool mustn't be allowed to have more taste of their experience this season, because once they are used to it, their players will be too confident. We as a dominating club must thrive for the highest goal, unlike mid table clubs whose goal is for top 4/top 6 only. Got what I mean? Our manager must not set his goal too low.

Okay im not sure what his first words were but im sure they were more confident compared to moyes first words. im also sure that he wont slate the squad either. I love van gaal already.

Better stat would be how many times they have won it.
Numbers can be tricky you know. He has managed Ajax for 3 seasons in the CL, Barcelona for 3 more (in 2002-03 he was sacked in Jan. and didn't continue in the knock out phase) and Bayern Munich for 2. That makes us 8 seasons in which he has won the cup once, he has reached the final 3 times and has made it to the semi-finals 5/8 times.

If we look at it that way, only Mourinho has a better percentage. Even Sir Alex has 6/20 semi-finals. We should probably leave the numbers aside. LvG has created one of the best teams in modern football, he has put AZ in the map of Dutch football, he has won the national League with all 4 teams he has managed and he was the top name on Ferguson's list when he considered retiring back in 2002.

Thanks a lot brother, its good to see that he doesn't want to go into specifics with the media and is taking quite a firm stance on it.

Thanks again for the translation, I really appreciated as I aim to keep a keen eye on the Dutch this World Cup in particular.

According to those quotes he was the chosen one to replace Sir Alex in 2002.

I'm not sure why people are still going on about this when that "slating" turns out not to be that far from the truth seeing how much work the squad needs.

Made some small improvements, I'm really too tired right now to type out a whole stereotype/classic Louis Van Gaal interview. But in a couple of months we will see him do the same in England, and if you like absurd comedy, man we are in for a treat.

LvG seems to fall out with big egos who try to tell him what to do. I don't think he'll get that at United.

I am still trying to get used to Moyes being in charge. Now we have another new boss.

Good luck Louis and thank Moyes. He has taken a lot of pressure off you. But I suppose the pressure is still on in a way because we all expect him to get us back to the top.
