Can we have Dembele now? He was part of that LvG AZ side, wasn't he? :D

I'm quite excited for our future unlike last year where I was quite apprehensive. I cant wait for his first game in charge.

Cool, not my preferred choice but probably the best option we had. Now go and get some midfielders bought!

Me too, but he is a big name, he's been there and worn the tshirt. He is a winner, sounds like he takes no shit so is probably pretty much what we need now - apart from a midfield.

I hope he does bloody well and knocks Liverpool off their new, makey-uppy perch.

Does anybody have a link to that graphic with teh comparative Champions League records of LVG, Mourino, Wenger, Fergie etc?

Edit, it's OK, found it:

I really hope this goes well but, I could really see this turning into a disaster. Also there is a chance this starts out really well than devolves into a soap opera by year two or three.

He wants control and lack of interference which is a luxury United have shown to afford managers without asking questions. We just became famous for letting Moyes run riot on the ship despite being half the manager van Gaal is. As long as he produces results he should have zero issues within the club and the club will back him even if he manages to piss off a player or two.

Edit: I might be sounding overly optimistic here but even if it sours I doubt we let things devolve into soap opera status.

You can't just capitalize the L for no reason Carrick. I hope Van Gaal sells him to a league 2 team as a message to players about twitter use and grammar. And also sacks all of our coaches and replaces them with mid-level managers like Moyes, O'Neill and Redknapp for no real reason at all.

 That'd be amazing.

He's more likely to get his balls out, with a capital L written on the sack, possibly for Large - possibly for teaching Carrick a lesson/shaming him.

Attacking football, an actual style of play. Youth, exuberance, excitement. The start of something special. We will contend for the league title to the end.

Gutted we'll have to wait for the second season for CL football. I'm intrigued to see how his methods would have fared with us as I believe we have underachieved in this competition.

I reckon next season Carrick will be more like the Carrick of 2012/13. Unshackled.

Wow.Finally the waiting is over.
Orangecafe, brilliant. I love it.

Glad this is done. Hope he has more Ajax '95/Az '09 moments with us than Bayern 2011 ones :D - now let's sign some players!

£100m, £200m, £250m, they're all amounts which have been mentioned in the British media when talking about Manchester United's summer transfer budget. In Holland, it's been different, especially with De Telegraaf. There's probably a good reason to listen to what De Telegraaf says, they were first with the Van Gaal news throughout, and over the past few weeks haven't covered it too much, treating the situation as a done deal.

The manager had originally been talking to Tottenham, and De Telegraaf explained on April 16th that he'd let Manchester United know they needed to make it clear there was a vacancy for him to move into. A period of a week was given and David Moyes was fired on April 22nd.

At 5am on Saturday April 26th De Telegraaf released a raft of articles at the same time, confirming Van Gaal getting the Manchester United job and back then they said his budget would be around €100m - which came as a surprise to Manchester United fans expecting more.

Today they've again said it's €100m and they explain that transfer work is underway right now and Manchester United want signings quickly, although they may have to wait due to the World Cup. The discrepancy in figures is interesting but could be down to some totals including wages and some not. A five year deal for a player earning £150k per week is a commitment of £39m. Four players on that kind of deal adds up to £156m, and £150k isn't an earth shattering amount anymore.

Manchester United are offloading wages this summer but it's hard to know what parameters the budget holds, De Telegraaf certainly don't think £200m will be spent on transfer fees alone.

Whilst that would cause enough debate on its own, there's another interesting angle. Reports of Van Gaal getting the job immediately led to claims, from news outlets all over Europe, that the manager wanted to sign half the Dutch squad.

De Telegraaf say that Van Gaal is unlikely to buy players from the current Dutch squad, but they point out if Strootman was fit then things would be different. Thankfully, for everyone's sanity, they rule a move for Wesley Sneijder out.

It's stated that the most likely shopping destination will be the Bundesliga because of Van Gaal's knowledge of it, and admiration for it. His reputation there would also help to attract players.

Welcome to United. I'm glad the Moyes nightmare is over and proper football will be on display again.

Can't wait for next season!
