van Gaal joins: Official

Shame we couldn't have moved Moyes down to assistant manager. It could have been a running joke, each year he gets a new position that means a lot less than the last one, until he eventually ended up as the club mascot.
I proposed Moyes demotion to an assistant manager a couple of months ago, but this is so much better.

Anyway, welcome Van Gaal. I think that he'll be a big success here!

Unexciting and pretty much feels like settling, but oh well, not like the club could do better with the options available and he's at worst better than Moyes. Just hope he makes the right signings or there'll only be slight improvement to this season.

And almost a deacde older too.
Anything but as far as I'm concerned - can't wait to see us play under LVG.

HOPE. It's back!

Welcom bij Manchester, Louis! I know you'll enjoy your stay!

He's finally in the office and probably is our best scout on the World Cup. His experience is very similar to Fergie's as he was travelling whole Europe all his life to learn from the best and taught many to be best.

Things from this point should be way easier when making decisions in upcoming transfer window. I'm sure Giggsy and Sir Alex will set best conditions and atmosphere for Louie to do what's he's best in. One thing's for sure - he's not afraid of any challenge as he is feared by many.

LVG might not propel us back to the pinnacle of english football, but I'm sure he will get better results out of us and get us back in the champions league. I don't think he will outstay his 3 year contract but he will do a lot of good work with transfers and bringing through youth players that we may see United return to power in much the same way as he ultimately had a positive influence on the modern day Barcelona and Bayern Munich. Roll on next season!!

Delighted he's finally joined. You can tell his confidence right away from the opening statements, definitely feel like we're the perfect club for each other at this time and he'll get us back to the top.
Now let's sign a fecking midfielder please!

Nonsense comparing Van Gaal to Moyes. On a day like this, people should be positive! It's a great decision to have Giggs as number 2 and I am sure they will work well together.
If Ryan ever thinks LVG is incompetent, Ryan will have lost his marbles.

Once again, we have one of the best men in the business. All the best, you crazy Dutch bastard.

Klopp would've been ideal, but this is as good as it gets with who's available. Welcome, eraserhead!

Exactly! Not sure why some people on here hold some negatives when what happens today is all positive and excitement. The pairing is excellent and gives every fan the assurance of success in the coming years as they will take us back to where we rightfully belong. Giggs should be learning alot from Van Gaal whilst Van Gaal will be able to use Giggs' ability. Win Win!

I'm starting to think David Moyes was actually an important part of the SAF transition. the feel good factor right now around United is way beyond where we were at last year. Everyone hoping for the best and dreading the worst. And his deflating persona and press conferences. After the misery of last season I think this sets it all up nicely to actually go into a season full of expectation but willing to settle for signs of improvement with some hope that we will actually compete. delighted with this appointment. probably in a way I wouldn't have been last year.

I was absolutely gutted when we appointed Moyes (even though I hoped he would succeed here). Couldn't feel more different today. I'm over the moon with this appointment. He just 'fits' I think. He wont be fazed or overwhelmed by the size of the club or the attention for a second. I genuinely believe we will be successful under him. Excited to recruit a few new players and to get the new season started. Cannot wait.

Annoyed. Would van Gaal have been anyone's ideal choice as the direct successor to Ferguson? Exceedingly doubtful, though I am 100% sure several super-fans will claim to always have wanted van Gaal.

Sickened that the club originally chose Moyes, we could have had a real chance at Ancelotti, Mourinho, or perhaps even Guardiola if the club and Ferguson had even had the minutest amount of foresight during Guardiola's year off.

Now we resort to this insufferably arrogant man whose best days are well and truly behind him. Looking forward to the cliques being formed at United, especially if van Gaal is allowed to make his predictable amateurish plunder for Dutch footballers, a ploy as ridiculous as Moyes raiding Everton. A seismic rift will form in the heart of Manchester United in the coming months. Frightening times.

Sorry for your loss.

It's a huge job to take on for anybody in world football. If he gets funds I expect vast improvements but I don't think a title challenge is happening next season.

Yeah I think that's more of a hope than a thought tbf.
