van Gaal joins: Official

Can't wait for the presser before our first match with Liverpool next season.

"Louis, what do you think of Brendan Rodgers and the progress he made with Liverpool last year?"
"Whose he??"
"I preferred it when Ricky Gervais played him"

He comes across as a guy who might just forget about a half time team-talk and just throw stuff at the players. I like that.

Louis van Gaal, the new Manchester United manager. That sounds about right.

And that new site name

Pretty much why I think we're a perfect fit for each other currently. At Barca and Bayern when he got sacked it was more for falling out with the board and players who didn't want to adapt to his system, or work hard in training. At United he should have complete control, without the interference of a director of football, without the board forcing him to do things, and most of our players are pretty hard workers currently, and nobody will get in his way if he wants to ship some of them out if they aren't working for him.

Exactly.

And this is why Mourinho wanted the job because he'd knew he would get complete control here.

Sky sports article listing positives, negatives and praise for Louis.

The negatives sound like positives to me for the most part:

"Van Gaal simply didn't want to work with me, he treats players like interchangeable objects." - Luca Toni, 2006 World Cup winner and former Bayern Munich striker

"Van Gaal hurt me more than anyone else in football." - Lucio, 2002 World Cup winner sold by Van Gaal at Bayern Munich

"Louis gives his players instructions they need to perform to make the system work. And the system is sacred. All players are equal to Van Gaal, big names do not exist for him, and everyone is subordinate to the team and system, his system." - Dennis Bergkamp, when seemingly comparing Van Gaal unfavourably to Cruyff and Arsene Wenger

"He must realise that in this club there are other people who are also responsible for sporting matters." - Christian Nerlinger, former Bayern Munich sporting director

"You wonder whether he has one or two screws loose." - Johan Cruyff

"I haven't had fun on the pitch once under van Gaal. I had had more than enough of it." -Franck Ribery

"Van Gaal is the Hitler of the Brazilian players, is arrogant, proud and has a problem. He has no idea of football. His type is sick, he's crazy." - Giovanni, Brazil international who worked with Van Gaal at Barcelona

"Louis van Gaal has been a very good coach in many clubs but his style is very difficult. He is very tough, people don't like him, but he wins. And one day you don't win - and when you don't win, everybody that is angry with you will come back to you and try to kill you." - Ferran Soriano, Manchester City chief executive and Van Gaal's vice president at Barcelona
Although most have to do with individual players own character, and chemistry with the manager, the more you read about these, the more you realise how Fergie is the master of man management. Players past and present only have praise for him and he's really well respected by players (even just in public). Of course it is mostly because players usually gain something from playing under Fergie and they also know they would look like a pig if they said things negative. Haha... Just recently I saw a clip of RvN being at the unveiling of Fergie's statute. He was so honest and gave Fergie so much credit and even went to the extent describing positively the so call falling out. Fergie is really one of a kind. Unfortunately there won't be another Fergie.

As for LvG I feel that if he is clever he will learn how to man manage without being described as just "tough" "harsh" etc once he steps into Old Traffod. Giggsy will really will come in handy in executing his instructions and acts as a good bridge between players and him

Haha... That's a good one. Or, "what a stupid question. How many league trophies has he won with Liverpool or not?

One other reason LvG and our players will be good fit is, our players are used to be coming first, not second. LvG's message will be music to their ears.

They are also come back Kings and are used to getting hair drying treatment if they fell asleep at games. LvG is the one who won't tolerate that and players understand instantly. Confidence confidence confidence are keys

Compare those quotes to the ones that the United players came out with after the Moyes debacle. Our players simply aren't the same breed of cnut that you'll find at Bayern/Barca.

LvG will do fine here. And assuming that he'll have the final say on signings, he won't buy twattish players like the ones that were forced on him by various Directors of Football on the continent.

He looks like a 70's Miami coke dealer in that pic.

In fairness I think many (if not all) of those quotes are from long after they had been managed by van Gaal. At the moment we're still in the period of showing Moyes respect, but I fully expect in the future that a few quotes will surface about how crap he was. For a start we've got Rio's stupid #2sides book coming out and he'll probably slate Moyes in it

He's absolutely crazy isn't he? Like seriously, bat eating, shit smearing, crazy?

I love him already.

Glad to wake up to it finally being confirmed. Wish him all the best.

Already excited about feeling like a big club again, which I didn't feel under Moyes.

I'm relatively happy with this appointment from an Arsenal perspective, all in all.

This guy is nearing the end of his career and appears to have been employed as a stopgap before Giggs moves into the role - another thing I wouldn't mind seeing.

He's no longer at the top table of European managers. He went to coach internationally which is really the mark of semi-retirement and he really feels like the best of a rather insipid selection chosen because Ancelotti and Klopp weren't available.

This idea that he's going to help United sweep back to power is quite ambitious, in my view. I reckon the remit is back to top four this year and then maybe something more afterwards. The job is sizeable. The coach is unproven in this league, easily falls out with players and it is very possible that he won't be a success.

When he was linked with Spurs, I didn't see many clamouring for United to step in to stop him. There's a reason why.

Big risk.

So jealous

Get the feck in, lads!

Alastair is always wrong about United matters. I wasn't sure before, but now it looks like we're going to be onto a certain winner with LvG.

Not an issue he has been employed near the end of his career, look at Heynckes. But I'm a lot more concerned about Giggs and deciding to 'groom' him for a role he may not be anywhere near good enough to do.

Why so jel? You know we will finish above Arsenal next season. :) If you keep this up we might have to send you to jelly school.

Great interview with Louis van Gaal and Cesar Millan the dog whisperer. Both were interviewed live tonight on a talk show in Holland by a very stylish dude called Humberto, sitting at a table together as the only guests. Gave great quotes, as has already been mentioned.
