Yeah but who cares about Cricket? Lets not forget NOTW turned down the expenses information due to a lack of sex.. It was a tabloid and nothing more.

The Indie does have some good Journalists, i.e (Johann Hari) and cuts out the sensetional crap that most other newpapers don't. Not to mention, its the only paper in the UK which is painfully baised towards either of the main parties.

I have no intention of devaluing journalism at all, I just think that the mainstream media has a lot of incredibly shit journalists and even worse editors which is why random people on the internet are better sourses of information.. I mean for crying out loud, a guy called 'sxephil' on youtube had good coverage of protests in places like Bahrain before the fecking BBC.

And BBC News 24 and BBC World news don't have the same stream. The channel I watched the most on my holydays was BBC World News and it a whole lot better than what we get here.

Its all about sales in the news now and thats a real shame.

:lol:Please tell me that isn't a serious observation?

Johann Hari: A personal apology - Johann Hari - Commentators - The Independent

The BBC news network does not have adverts so is not about sales- fair enough there are variations worldwide (remembering the Ron Atkinson thing) but it is ultimately the same source.

I agree there is less investigative journalism these days, but as Robert Peston himself said- he used to head the FT's late investigative team- papers cannot afford to pay for teams to work on a story for six weeks that may or may not come through.

Falling paper sales- they have been in decline for years- and a struggle to monetise online news have put paid to a lot of this.

Not sure about the Sun turning down the expenses story- I know the Daily Mail did.

 I knew you'd bring that up, I still think Hari write good articles.

The BBC World News service is completely different to the one we get here, it has a lot more in-depth stories and mini documentary type programmes where a Journalist and a Cameraman go to the middle of a war-torn country and other such things which make for rather good television. Really, the BBC should have more investigative journalists than it does, I mean it doesn't depend on sales and such things, fair enough other news outlets are struggling but the BBC really shouldn't be.

True. Guess they'll bleat about cutbacks and the licence fee being frozen etc...Sky News do a pretty good job considering it generates bugger all revenue for them, more just gives them credibility as a serious network.

Must admit, I never read anything by Johan Hari, but some of the pisstakes about his 'interviewing' of Churchill and Hitler and so forth were quite funny.

Cain presser underway now.

Not sure it's a good idea to open proceedings with a sleazy looking lawyer. Cain is standing next to him like a spare prick at a wedding. Why can't he just speak for himself?

Gloria Allred is repping him too???????

:p

Hari's a minor embarrassment to the left. He did used to be quite good, but more by virtue of picking the right things to be manically tubthumping about. I think he's probably a very vindictive person.

That is small time from Hari.

Lots of good news on the initiative front. Mississippi's "personhood" amendment (aka the "Every Sperm Is Sacred" Law) is going down large, (and if the anti-choicers can't get Missi-freaking-sippi to sign off on "personhood" in an off-year election, they should just give up the ghost,) and Maine voters shot down a Republican-sponsored resolution seeking to end same-day voter registration, (Republicans always seem to think Democracy works better if fewer people vote.)

That is small time from Hari.

Totally destroyed his credibility. Mockney says he used to be good, which I'm sure he must have to some extent to get where he did so quickly, but seems he believed his own hype.

It is the cardinal sin as a journalist to plagiarise (and even more so to get caught).

Some of the piss takes/approbrium

Fun Journalism: Johann Hari talks to Winston Churchill Joha... on Twitpic

New Statesman - Just before you accept Johann Hari's apology ....

He was good when he was going after the right people. Actual fascists, Littlejohn, the Pope etc..When left to his own devices he's a spectacular prat.

Anyone going for Littlejohn goes up in my estimation tbf, even if the cretin is an easy target.

He did an interview on Littlejohn's Sky programme a few years back (it's on youtube) which was basically him, Littlejohn and a BNP Party member. Now, as much as he owned them both, you would really have to be a dribbling incompetent not to come out of that particular meeting well, providing you don't have strong admiration for Enoch Powell and a cellar full of Nazi helmets. But he presses the issue relentlessly with people like that who you need to be relentless with. Problem is, as you said, believe his own hype, he does.

Easy targets as you say, but some can definitely do with more panache than others letting them hang themselves with their own rope rather than going for the Jeremy Kyle-esque sanctimonius approach. I'll have a look later- the missus is asleep in our hotel room right now.

Dug up this. The numbers are funny- particularly Littlejohn sliding in a 'cottaging' reference every tenth column statistically.

Richard Littlejohn: Racist and Homophobe – Johann Hari

I thought the 'monkey' bit might be reading to much into things and Marina Hyde did a lot of the good work, albeit she is credited. He has a certain flair for writing, I'll give him that and he's clearly very intelligent. Makes it all the more mind boggling why he threw it all way.

There were several local elections and state referendums today. In the Wake County(North Carolina) school board elections(issues over "re-segregation"), the Democrat incumbent won despite local GOP and Koch-funded groups pouring lots of money into the election. The school board had been covered in the New York Times and several other publications.

In Ohio, the law restricting collective bargaining agreements was nullified by a statewide referendum after the GOP legislature and governor passed it(similar to one in Wisconsin). They did however approve a measure to opt out of Obamacare.

In Mississippi, a law that would have defined personhood as a fertilized egg was voted down heavily after being projected to pass. It would have made IVF basically impossible, eliminate certain types of birth control, and obviously made abortion illegal. Tons of money went into this one too, but the voters said no.

In Arizona, it looks like the man who wrote the extremely stringent illegal immigration law is going to lose to a less conservative Republican in a recall election. Democrats helped gain the signatures for the recall election.

Not a good day for the Tea Party or GOP.

think Kasich is the very reason Obama and Dems will have an advantage.

He has helped unify the blue color vote against the GOP. 2012 is a month away.

The GOP nominee will have the governor as an albatross round his neck.

If it is Romney...it will be worse for his statement of being 110% behind Kasich.

It'll be fun to see how Bachmann can turn a foreign policy answer into representing mothers and ending Obamacare. We'll also get Cain's thoughts on Uzbeki-beki-beki-stan-stan, and Santorum hating on foreign gays.

Gingrich can just harumph loads and pretend to be really clever.

fecking hell. That's right up there with the Mick McCarthy gif. Seeing both side by side must be torture.

The last time I heard Santorum speak he was running to the right of Benjamin Netanyahu, a truly ridiculous man.

Anyone got a live stream of this train wreck? I can't seem to find one as easily as the previous ones..

So.. they aren't actually streaming the debate? What kind of amateur hour is this? Everyone has managed to stream this comedy special so far. Well, I can safely say none of these candidates will get my vote!

All Obama has to do is play the tape of any one of these idiots except Huntsman (he wont win the nomination anyway) about them wanting to let the foreclosures happen and getting rid of Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac..

Oh and Romney just lost Michigan....

yeah the bailout for the auto industry was a mistake....

kin idiot..btw he started out saying he was married to his wife for 25 years before correcting himself...he must have been thinking of the young girls he was fiddling...that made up the remaining years.
