Hold on a minute, libertarian principles can be both a right and left wing policy. Just look at the current coalition in Westminster.

Maybe. But without moving to bring in some blacks, women and particularly Hispanics, the GOP are in demographic trouble next time round (unless Mitt wins and the economy's booming).

Roll on senator Warsi.

Yeah I get that 'all republicans are mentalists', but Bush was a republican, and despite his Boris Johnson-esque idiocy, he seemed to do alright. By alright I mean he was re-elected, and I don't recall anywhere near as much fuss being kicked up as there is now.

What? Bush? The guy who lost his inaugural election but got sworn in due to a dodgy vote in his brother's state and the dubious intervention of the Supreme Court. Was incumbent during the worst domestic attack in US history, started 2 wars, one illegally and proven in hindsight to be based on falsity. Instigated the worst economic collapse in the last half century and left office as one of the most unpopular, derided, hated and ridiculed Presidents in history?

That Bush?

Yeah, he did alright.

(Mockney's favourite site  turning heavily on Christie since Sandy these guys are)

Was that the one I joined to argue about the London riots with someone from the EDL?...Yeah that place is great.

Some very strong Obama areas in Florida are still to be called.

The term libertarian annoys me given its associations conflict so much with the heavy state intervention that is so associated with left wing governments.

Libertarian is the antithesis of authoritarian as right is the antithesis of left.

That said, they don't have to go together.

They are both. Social issues are usually in agreement with liberals, fiscal more in line with repubs.

At least he wasn't a one-termer like his daddy, who by all accounts was ridiculously intelligent.

Also, if one was to look back through history it could be argued that no President has ever gotten anything done of any magnitude under a single term.

I'm not sure it's really fair to say Bush 'instigated' the crash. Any more than Brown did. It was bankers playing silly buggers, no small thanks to Clinton's liberalisations; and a housing boom brought on by the Fed's interest rates over a decade.

Of course, if he hadn't spunked trillions on wars of choice and tax cuts for the rich, it might have been easier to deal with...

I think you are looking at things wrong. Compare county by county %'s and romney has improved a little bit of mccain, but not enough, but the margin will be around 1%ish. It's all about how well Romney will do in Miami which isn;t called at all.

You are shamelessly rejecting your Nazi roots.

Well Marco Rubio and Susana Martinez did have a lot foa prominence at the convention as i recall, the former part of the build up for Romney's big speech.

The feck did I just read. If Bush was alright, then everyone is 'alright'. He is probably the worst president in the history of United states, and he was 'alright'.

Baffles me how the most powerful country in this world can have people giving the likes of Romney a chance to become their president. Even Obama is still too right wing for my liking....

 It's my dad's fault, he's a socialist but forgot the national bit when he moved countries!

It's because he was too young to get involved with any of their youth programs I reckon.

Just how distant is any third party in the US? Do they not have a bonkers UKIP or EDL that could strip votes from one of the mainstream parties?

Pre-Nazi Jugend? He could have been pope...How much do Canadians give a shit about this election out of interest?

I did say that 'by alright', I meant that he was re-elected, and that people didn't express the same discontent as they have for Romney's campaign, something nobody's disagreed with yet.
