That's true. If Romney loses as expected, the GOP propaganda machine (Hannity, Limbaugh, Beck, Coulter etc) will simply reload on day one after the election to try and erode Obama's work as much as possible in preparation for 2016.

And let's be honest, if somehow Romney is elected (:wenger:) then there will be a number of Dem politicians who will begin to set themselves up for 2016. It is just the nature of US politics, sadly.

Obviously who ever loses tomorrow (the Republicans) will have people who will already be positioning themselves for the next election cycle. The party that wins tomorrow (The Democrats ) will see that also, but to a lesser extent at least for about 2 years. Then it will be one of two things. If things are going well they will be fighting to get themselves viewed as Obama's natural successor. If things are not going well, then they will begin to distance themselves from Obama (who will then become an lame duck) and try to position themselves as the one who can get the party and the country back on track and fulfill the lost promise of Hope and Change.

So there consider the thread started
Demographics such as they are the republicans as they are branded now will have a hard time. their base is aging, and the democrats core groups are increasing. they will have to re-invent themselves from being old white guys.

I wonder how much money the Mormon church is sitting on?

I've long believed that churches and religious organizations should have their tax exempt status removed. They already have a heavy influence in politics.

A shitload

When the election is over we can finally spend some time getting to the bottom of this Benghazi scandal.

It's the new Watergate apparently....

If the Mormons had as much money as people are claiming, they could afford to paint those churches. ;)

That is true, although its generally more intense when it comes from the right. They have their entire talk radio apparatus set up for just such a task.

The beauty on the right is that they will think the answer will be to move more to the right than actually being reasonable.

So who's staying up tomorrow night? I am.

Won't stay up too late. Daughter and I are going to the movies tomorrow night, not sure what we are going to see yet. By time I get home the polls on the east coast will all be closed. So I can start watching the returns for the local elections. Might be getting close to late enough for them to begin calling some States, so I will get a peak at that.

But if it turns out as close as some think I doubt I will stay up late enough to see them call it.

The meta-margin's back down to 2.34... it was up around 6 at one point!

Gone up a bit today I think. His 95% confidence interval is nearly down to Romney territory on the EV graph though! :nervous:

Nate is now higher than Wang at 307.

The two states I really don't know what is going on are FL and NC.

If they supress voter turnout as they seem to be doing.....Romney will win.

NC if the polls are not reflecting same day registration and voting, then Obama may pull that state into his column.

Well folks, the election's finally upon us, and here in the CE forum things have started to fray. I'm twittering like a nervous chicken, radd has revealed himself to be some sort of sleep-walking neuroscientist psycho; Red Dreams has fallen through the abyss at the heart of Liberalism and landed in Lenin's Russia; and now Brad-Dyrak has arrived, which is kind of like Gary Kasparov turning up unannounced in ciderman's chess thread. msj has remained largely silent... which is a far cry from his behaviour in the Benedictine Monk forum.

So who's staying up tomorrow night? I am.

Me too, and I'll be expecting you to send us some good luck Scandinavian ju-ju, whatever that entails. Should be out, with the island to myself and naught but a radio and some raccoons and beavers. It worked 4 years ago...

 @ Plech.

My bum is all asqueak despite the shared optimism here, but then you all do seem perversely on top of all these mucky polling models.

Also worried this won't be the end of it. Too close for there not to be some dangling chad sort of thing somewhere. Also this thread with it's bizarre polling lust will live on.

What time (GMT) should it be worth starting to watch tomorrow night (i.e. first exit polls)? 11pm? Midnight?

It'll probably be a lull till about 9pm Eastern when polls in places like Ohio would've been closed for a couple of hours and a significant number of the precincts start reporting their numbers

I'll be watching Fixed News along with my parents in Colorado - both of whom early voted for Romney. Should be a blast.
