The company that run a lot of the exit polls already have a good chunk of data from early polling. A guy on NPR said by early tomorrow morning they are usually in a good position to make an accurate prediction. This time around he said its too close to call and there is a high likelihood of a few surprises.

I don't want uniformed people in the red states deciding who the president will be. For now I prefer the electrol college especially with teh changing demographics favouring us.

What the heck Red Dreams? Wow. They're people, Americans, neighbors, all sharing the same boat, etc. Granted on the right it's been sounding like the lunatics are running the asylum, but still I wouldn't put too much universal certainty into "uninformed". One thing I can say for certain is that I'm sure there are some folks voting for the other side that are smarter and more informed than you or I, but maybe have different priorities or different interpretations. I don't agree with them, but I do want their vote to be counted, and that's not what's happening.

You could also say, that a few years ago, Nate was a management consultant with a baseball column.

What the earthly feck is an 'actual statistician' btw? Is that someone who contributes to advances in theory? That's not Nate. Or is it possible that many, many professions make use of commonly applied stats approaches? Such as people who engage in research and need to make sense of their studies? A neuroscientist / bio-physicist perhaps?

A neurologist, btw, is someone who treats neurological disorders. You need sleep...

Outed! You are right Sam - apologies, and thanks for the excellent site.

yeah..the 'people' in the south were a majority too...

they just did not want black people to vote.

It does not matter what their intention/priorities/interpretations are. What matters is the result.

And yes..their vote will be counted....within the current system.

The scare quotes around "people" is rather odd.

there ya go, that saves you a viagra for tonight

I bet the exit polls show Romney winning Ohio or Pennsylvania or somewhere, we all shit ourselves and then they turn out to be wrong as usual.

Romney surrogates are confident of the win. Still peddling the "over sampling" of democrats in polls as a reason to be cheery.

They'll still be confident tomorrow presumably when reality over-samples Democrats again.

Also, Gallup now has a 1 point Romney lead, was 5 before they stopped polling. Wonder if they've changed anything or are herding.

Well folks, the election's finally upon us, and here in the CE forum things have started to fray. I'm twittering like a nervous chicken, radd has revealed himself to be some sort of sleep-walking neuroscientist psycho; Red Dreams has fallen through the abyss at the heart of Liberalism and landed in Lenin's Russia; and now Brad-Dyrak has arrived, which is kind of like Gary Kasparov turning up unannounced in ciderman's chess thread. msj has remained largely silent... which is a far cry from his behaviour in the Benedictine Monk forum.

It just broke a few days ago. The main story was covered widely by the mainstream press when Reid originally made the accusation a few months ago.

wasn't the reaction to ask 'how dare Reid make these claims without naming his source?'

I remember at the time thinking they were massive hypocrites over it.

I am wondering who will start the US Presidential election 2016 thread. :)

Obviously who ever loses tomorrow (the Republicans) will have people who will already be positioning themselves for the next election cycle. The party that wins tomorrow (The Democrats ) will see that also, but to a lesser extent at least for about 2 years. Then it will be one of two things. If things are going well they will be fighting to get themselves viewed as Obama's natural successor. If things are not going well, then they will begin to distance themselves from Obama (who will then become an lame duck) and try to position themselves as the one who can get the party and the country back on track and fulfill the lost promise of Hope and Change.

So there consider the thread started

I talked to my MiL last night...she lives in Ohio. She's voting Obama and so are her friends because Romney plans to mess with their healthcare.

She used to get swayed by ridiculous chain emails so I was glad to hear that she at least has an issue that's helping her decide how to vote.

That's true. If Romney loses as expected, the GOP propaganda machine (Hannity, Limbaugh, Beck, Coulter etc) will simply reload on day one after the election to try and erode Obama's work as much as possible in preparation for 2016.
