Are there any names on the Democrat side that I should be looking out for, in terms of potential runners in the 2016 election?

Whenever Romney speaks, I think I'm watching a 50s voiceover to something. Does he say "gee" a lot?

Not really any that comes to mind, Hillary Clinton will probably run again, but shes getting on a bit other than that its a pretty 'open' field

Listening to this debate is saddening- lower taxes, repeal Obamacare, cut regulation... YAWN same old.

Yes, everything was fine and dandy before Obama came into office. Pricks.

I'm pulling for Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer to run in 2016. He's a lefty but pragmatic. Shades of Teddy Roosevelt as well.

Oh my god, people actually just shouted "YEAH!" to the question "should you just let him die?"

Well that's what Ron Paul wanted too. He refused to actually answer, but it was clear what he meant. If someone has no health insurance and they need care? Let them die.

And people somehow like this guy. Otherwise rational people. Just because he just happens to disagree with the foreign policy (and the UN), and wants to legalize drugs (and everything else).

Rick Perry has lost the election already. He's taken it up the arse today

The republican electorate is to the right of him! lol. Jesus wept.
For how much they all cream themselves over Ronald Reagen he would be called a socialist (based on his terms as president) if he ran in this election

That's exactly what I was thinking when all this was going on. Rick fecking Perry was attacked by the other candidates for being too soft on immigrants.

Ignorance is bliss for some people, I guess. Ron Paul is stating a FACT.

Al Qaeda attacked the US to provoke a response so they can bleed the country dry through increased military spending in endless wars. If they don't want to wake up to that fact they will find themselves in a desperate situation in a decade

Ron Paul just quoted Osama Bin Laden.

Oh dear.

Of course, it was in response to Rick Santorum saying that 9/11 didn't happen because of anything the US did. They hated their freedom, you see.

Once in a while Ron Paul shows himself as a very insightful person. He's definitely the only one on that stand who would admit that the hate against the US is largely a consequence of their own actions.

Of course, his solution to that is fairly insane. He'd be a terrible president. You'd think he'd be better than someone like Perry or Bachmann, but I'm actually not sure. With his ideas, he could ruin the US beyond repair. Perry would "just" be another Bush.

Romney is high stepping into the presidential race now, realistically.
Perry is getting beat up and is taking massive hits. The rest of the candidates are just jokes.

Okay. Okay. Right. Rick Perry was just asked about Obama's tax cuts and if he supports them. His response?

"And he's going to pay for them by raising your taxes."

Nothing untrue in that statement. Obama forgot to mention that part in his "historic" speech the other night.

Not watching, but it was always going to come down to these two anyway. I could see a Romney/Perry ticket of some sort. Or maybe Bachman as the Veep choice. Either way it's a loser. The repubs don't really have too much of a chance.

I keep saying it. 9% unemployment and a republican congress and senate that doesn't have a filibuster proof 60 votes to work with on trying to pass legislation to improve the economic outlook. In fact republican congressmen have stated that they won't pass anything that helps Obama get re-elected!!

If things don't improve he will lose. Independents don't look at the details of why things suck and I think the "he was in charge, he has overall responsibility" argument might stick.

This philosophy is exactly what most people are so pissed about with politics. Neither side does whats best for the country. They do what gives them the most ammunition against their opponent. It will only reinforce the dems "party of no" stump. It's a lose lose situation.

I'm going to say it... Michele Bachman looked extremely feckable when she started getting fired up over 'Obamacare'. It's wrong, but I don't care.

Herman Cain is a trip. "It also worked in the small country of Chilayyy"

Romney and Huntsman look far more polished and rational than the rest of the crowd. Too bad for them, the Republican base want Tea Party types like Perry.

fecking hell...the booing when Ron Paul tried to educate those thickos on why we are at war with Al Qaeda. These tea party morons want to shrink govt. but continue to piss away money overseas on neocolonialism. We could cut all the waste in govt and it would still be nowhere near the sums that are spent on Iraq & Afghanistan in a single year.

I think I saw 3 black people at tonight's debate...and one of them was Herman Cain. The repubs are the party of frightened old people and selfish assholes.

All good signs for Obama. The further the Republicans show themselves as the Tea Party, the better his chances next year, as independent voters will swing back to his side after contrasting the alternative.

Easy for people with nothing to lose to speak honestly about things. Those with a chance of winning will lie through their teeth to get what they want. If Ron Paul was a serious candidate, and someone who had an outsiders chance at being elected, 70% of what he says now, would disappear from his campaign pitch.

Say what you want about Ron Paul, but the man is clearly an intellectual mile above these inbred thickos. The Tea Party deserve the likes of Bachman and Perry, not semi-sane politicians like Paul.

Is that, like, two kilometers?

yeah...let that 30 year-old die.

I'm still amazed at hearing that. I thought cheering executions was as low as it could go but this still blows my mind....and then Ron Paul not being horrified and actually agreeing with it.

Rick Perry has a Dubya like stupidity about the way he talks, which of course appeals to the Tea Party types.

Did you notice that weird expression he seems to be caught displaying. It really looks like he's fumbling around in his brain for clever stuff to say...he then finds summat that the teabaggers will love...and lights up and can't wait to throw it out to them.

I hope we see him debating Barry and getting a grilling from Katie Couric!

Yeah he seems a bit nervous on stage, which is exacerbated by the daft way Romney stares at him while he's talking.

Romney is clever but he doesn't seem to have a higher gear. I just can't see him being inspiring or rabble-rousing and he needs to have that skill in his locker. I saw Perry afterwards on stage speechifying to the teabaggers and he was very good...they loved it too.

I think Romney is a bit too John Kerry'ish for the red-meat wing of the party.

I still can't get over that audience members (explicitly) and candidates (implicitly) were calling for the death of uninsured comatose patients. That actually disturbed me. I knew they thought it already, but to be so brazen about it...

I try and get behind some of the things he says but sometimes he's quite off his rocker. I think he says things just to differentiate himself from the others.

Ron Paul getting Iraq/Afghanistan right is a prime example of stopped-clock syndrome.

It's 2011 and he still believes we need to go back to the gold standard. No one who thinks that should be given power over anything.

Something tells me you like him because he would cause the demise of the United States. :)
