There isn't anything really to lose with the Executive Order approach.

I'd actually like to see a series of fines, or tax penalties, for every offshore employee of any company based in the US to be offset against any fulltime new hires stateside.

A multinational corporation making record profits, yet claiming their overhead is too high, or that unclear Washington spending aims make them too nervous to invest is lying. Just lying.

This notion that there are too many regulations for business to operate is absurd considering that many companies are now making more money than they ever thought possible.

These companies have no patriotic loyalty anymore. They are extra-national entities, headed by people who believe their profits are more important than the good of the nation.

A truly Harry Truman move would be to issue an EO appropriating from all multinationals the sum of money equal to any tax loopholes they've utilized. Or to make all subsidies these companies making record profits have received subject to repayment based on the complete lack of need demonstrated by the aforementioned profits.

This book is chilling, and very helpful in understanding the subsidy problem:
Free Lunch: How the Wealthiest Americans Enrich Themselves at Government Expense (and Stick You with the Bill)

If the Bush tax cuts, and these subsidies were not in effect the country would have no problem keeping Social Security, and Medicare funded. The post office would not be in trouble.

I was watching Fat Luntz do his stupid panel thing on Hannity yesterday. All these joe publics kept going 'just get regulations out of the way and let business get on with it'. I bet if you asked them which specific regs they wouldn't be able to name even one. It's a big lie that has been repeated over and over so that dummies believe it.

Chris. Having thought about it... The problem with the Executive Order approach is it opens the door for future abuse.

can you imagine in the unlikely case of a loon like Perry using such powers?

Its a precedent that should not be set.

the road to dictorships lies there.

Grin. as I have said, rightwingers are basically stupid.

They watch Fox which spoonfeeds them shit all day..and they gobble it all up...and go vote against their interests.

I know that but I reckon your average non-fox watching voter thinks the same things.

RD...

Both Robert Reich and Sen. Sanders have said that there are executive orders that the President could explore...

I might be jumping the gun in saying it's all bullshit. But President Obama is on a short leash with the voting public. It will be the difference between half the Democrats staying home in 14 months and losing more than half of the independent voters. ~ If he doesn't roll out a Plan B as soon as November, people are to have a good look at the situation and say, Obama is just using the fact the so many people are out of work as a chance to beat up the GOP, meanwhile doing nothing.

People are not stupid, the approval ratings for congress is at an all-time low, down to a rate of a 12%. Congress Approval Rating Drops To Lowest Level In History Of AP Poll

I just watched Obama do another live speech from Richmond, Virginia... He isn't saying anything new that he hadn't been saying 3 years ago, nothing.

Bob,

Perry will drive the dems to the poll, just to prevent a crazy loon like him from taking charge and destroying Social Security and Medicare.

The generic Congress polls are trending Democrats now. If not for the skewed Rasmusson polls, the difference will be much higher.

btw Romney has only been right about one thing.

Bringing about madated health care in Massachusetts. And he is running as fast as possible from it. Some day when we have single payer, we look back in history and thank him ;)

As a candidate, he has the personality of a hog's arse.

I see Perry has strengthened in the Polls after his mad hatters performance. :)

Obama must be laughing his arse off.

The repubs only need to win the states where it's close betweent R & D. Those states went for Obama last time but have historically voted repub. The question is can Perry win the likes of Florida, Ohio, CO, NV and Virginia?

Well, it'll be closer than you think is all I'm saying. If it were anything but the electoral college then Barry would piss it.

All I remember from RufRT was his garage filled with premium sports cars. You can see why he'd be a Tea Party type.

I'm republican

I'm republican

I was a registered Repub for some years. But I've changed to a more Libertarian point of view. I'm pretty moderate. Socially more left, fiscally right. But on this board that pretty much makes me the anti-Christ.

The repubs have no one to challenge. And that shows just how weak all the candidates really are as Obama has been pretty much an utter disappointment. Just look at Bobs posts and at election time he was pretty much cupping Obamas balls.

Just my perspective, but I think in general Americans are getting sick and tired of politicians regardless of party. They all lie to get elected or re-elected. They are completely out of touch with reality.

Do you think the corporate-centric nature of US politics is partly to blame?

1) Socially liberal, fiscally conservative. That's pretty much the majority right there.

2) Americans get the govt they deserve. Most are too thick and lazy to really make a considered choice about who represents them at all levels. What gets me is that they all moan about the partisan nature of Washington, but what the feck did they expect when they elected Obama and then 2 years later filled the congress with a big bunch of tea party wankers who have no interest in compromise? Nothing is getting done because of who got voted in democratically.

3) The system needs to change and money needs to be removed from politics. Neither of those will ever happen so we are fecked for the forseeable future. As time goes by the idealists and decent people who enter public service will succumb to the telegenic, corporate stooges who are well-financed and run slick campaigns and who will feck us over as soon as they reach high office.

I really fear for this country in the coming years. Thank feck I have the ability to go back to England if it gets too shitty.

I'm a registered Republican and even I don't like too many things that happens on that party I completely dislike a party with so many liberal/socialist ideas. My party back in Portugal was the right party and one thing I learned from Europeans politicians, they are all corrupt (like here) but the socialists are the champions.

If you don't mind me asking on what grounds do you consider yourself a republican...socially? Fiscally?

What surprises me is that poor people continue to vote for people who want to keep them poor.
