Who was on death row for murdering two people with a pickaxe during a robbery... according to Tucker’s testimony in court, the second person’s murder caused her to orgasm each time the pickaxe struck the victim.
What the hell

Pappy Bush in intensive care. If he dies that creates a real conundrum when it comes to having trump there as it will be a state funeral.

It'll be tricky and uncomfortable for Trump, as he'll be seated next to the other presidents and their wives. They all despise him.

Senator Chris Coons of Delaware became the lone Democrat to break ranks after a procedural mix-up left the vote in limbo. Coons had recorded a no vote, but switched to help advance Pompeo’s nomination after Republican Senator Johnny Isakson was unexpectedly absent, initially leaving Pompeo one vote shy of the panel’s approval.

WHY

The GOP had no qualms holding on for a year to block a SC nominee. Dems have zero spine zero vision. Nothing.

Also:
Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky, the only Republican who had voiced his opposition to the nomination, cleared the way for Pompeo’s approval by switching his position just before the vote.
...
Senator Jeff Flake, a Republican from Arizona who had been undecided ahead of the vote, also wound up backing Pompeo in committee.
...
Senators Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Joe Donnelly of Indiana, both Democrats from reliably conservative states, announced in separate statements on Monday that they would vote to confirm Pompeo. North Dakota Senator Heidi Heitkamp, another vulnerable incumbent Democrat, backed Pompeo last week.
...
During his confirmation hearing earlier this month, human rights groups sounded the alarm over Pompeo’s refusal to unequivocally disavow ~~enhanced interrogation methods~~ torture.

Pompeo seems eminently qualified for the job. I'd rather have somebody capable in there than a vacancy that means Kushner or whoever is running diplomacy.

He's a torturer who hates muslims, hes only qualified in the sense that he has held other jobs where supporting torture and hating muslims is not disqualifying.

Looks like the Rs are going to hold their seat in Arizona 8.......but the Dems have gained quite a bit since Trump won there by 21%

EPA chief signs proposal limiting science used in decisions

WASHINGTON (AP) — Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt signed a proposed rule Tuesday that seeks to restrict the types of scientific studies that regulators can use to determine the impact of pesticide and pollution exposure on human health.

Pruitt said the change, long sought by chemical manufacturers and fossil fuel companies, would increase transparency in the agency’s decision-making by requiring all underlying data used in scientific studies to be made publicly available.

“The era of secret science at EPA is coming to an end,” Pruitt said. “The ability to test, authenticate and reproduce scientific findings is vital for the integrity of the rule-making process. Americans deserve to assess the legitimacy of the science underpinning EPA decisions that may impact their lives.”

Facing a swarm of ethical questions about his use of taxpayer money for personal perks, Pruitt signed the proposed order at EPA headquarters in an event livestreamed on the agency’s website but not open to the press.

Critics that include former EPA administrators and scientists said the policy shift is designed to restrict the agency from citing peer-reviewed public-health studies that use patient medical records that must be kept confidential under patient privacy laws.

disgraceful. democrats are not allies of the left.
Bit of an overreaction here. Coins just saved them time. One of the Rs was late because of some family situation so they'd have had to reconvene later in the night to get the same result. So he just saved taxpayer money really. It's not even a small deal never mind a big one. Find better examples.

Somehow that seems like the least offensive term someone could have used to describe that person in West Virginia.

when the democrats have spent the last decade folding to the republicans constantly and having hundreds of lost seats to show for it, even symbolic failures are important.

A California man is headed for a 15-month stay in federal prison over “restore CDs” — disks that reinstall Microsoft’s Windows operating system after a failure — after a ruling two weeks ago by a federal appeals court.

In his 2017 trial in federal district court, Eric Lundgren, 33, was found to have infringed Microsoft’s intellectual property by $700,000 for ordering and importing the restore disks, which a witness told the court were nearly worthless. Lundgren, an activist whose cause is “e-waste,” or throwing out otherwise usable technology, saw the disks as a way to keep consumers from tossing old computers when they believed them to be broken.

Such disks may only be used on computers that already have a license for the Windows operating system. Lundgren observed that many users, when confronted with a system failure, would simply opt to buy a new one, rather than hunt up a disk or go through the laborious process of a system restore.

Lundgren had 28,000 of these disks made and shipped to Florida, where he and a broker planned to sell them to computer repair shops for about 25 cents each. This way, the shops wouldn’t have to make restore disks themselves.

Somehow, this drew the attention of U.S. customs agents, who seized a shipment of the disks, then got the Florida broker to flip on Lundgren, catching him in a conspiracy where all of $3,400 was transacted. Both got indicted on a charge of conspiracy to traffic counterfeit goods and criminal copyright infringement, but the government’s snitch got off with a six-month home-arrest sentence for his cooperation.

The Washington Post, in its account, notes that neither Microsoft nor any other computer manufacturers sell any restore disks. They’re free, and apparently so worthless as to be thrown away with great frequency. Lundgren argued that he was making the disks available only to those who already had a license for the Windows software. Government lawyers still valued the disks at $299 each, in an indictment saying Lundgren cost Microsoft $8.3 million — which, if it isn’t nonsense, is couch-cushion change to a company that stashes $138.5 billion of its cash overseas.

The majesty of the law.

The majesty of the law.

Bit like the old story of the homeless man who robbed a bank with a banana, took enough money for some food and clothes and then returned every cent the following day out of guilt because his momma dint’ raise him that way and got 15+ years for it. Compare that to the bankers who commit fraud, embezzle hundreds of millions, financially ruin thousands of families then get 6 years serving barely three in a low security prison including weekends at home with the family.

It just is so vindictive and pointless.

The artcle said the vote was 11-9. Reversed, it would be 10-10.
I don't know the rules: do tied votes get a re-do or would that mean the end of the road for Mike Pompeo?

I'd also like to add (as evidence of Dem spinelessness) that Hillary helped coach him for hearings.

The Democrats who voted to confirm Pompeo were:

  • Joe Donnelly of Indiana
  • Dianne Feinstein of California
  • Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire
  • Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota
  • Tim Kaine of Virginia
  • Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota
  • Joe Manchin of West Virginia
  • Claire McCaskill of Missouri
  • Jack Reed of Rhode Island
  • Brian Schatz of Hawaii
  • Chuck Schumer of New York
  • Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire
  • Mark Warner of Virginia
  • Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island
Angus King, the independent from Maine who caucuses with Democrats, also voted in favor of Pompeo’s confirmation.

Connecticut Democrats Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy did not vote.

I know its frustrating, but they've got to play a balancing act because they're in red states.

The Democrats have spent a lot of time and money electing them; on the most fundamental issues these guys disagree with the Dems.
The Tea Party showed what can be gained by only hitting the centre from the ideological extreme.

These tea party style hit jobs about going after a particular Dem because they voted for Pompeo are completely futile. If Manchin loses his seat it will be to an R at which point there won't be much gleeful high fiving among progressives.

I know, that Republican might vote to end environmental regulations, confirm torture supporters, and support tax cuts!
