GOP candidate won the tie-break in that Virginia race (the one where the ballot was allowed even though it was pretty blatantly a void).

Odd that Sessions would take a measure like that reducing State independence from big bad DC, being a Republican and all.

Not the will of the majority either. Must be because...reasons...?

How are they going to get the young black men into their private prisons if they can't give them ridiculous sentences for personal possession of a plant that grows in the dirt?

Hard to say. The feds would likely be in conflict with the states depending on how far Sessions wants to take it. Trump could of course step in and tell him to knock it off.

Maybe likely a way to punish CA for their new recreational laws. It'll be interesting to see if the DOJ targets swing states. Most likely, nothing really changes.
Ok thanks.

Its blatantly obvious this seat was stolen from the Dem candidate.

Yet they'll get away with it. Really should have been some mass protests in Virginia when that dodgy ballot was allowed to be counted.
From the principle of democracy pov, that vote should have been counted since intent was clear.

However, all ballots then should be recounted and other previously void ballots should be examined and counted as well.

But we have rules in place on how a ballot should be filled in. If one party is allowed to bypass rules to ensure they dont lose, then we're heading towards a slippery slope.

I agree, but both parties aren't shy to trumpet the 'will/intent of the voter' when it suits them i.e Florida 2000 and 'hanging chads'. So you either do it for both or none at all.

It's just a big clusterfeck.

I understand how federalism works. The point is to talk about our priorities as a society.

The tweet just seemed a bit drama-queenish. Having a pop at foreign policy while not conceding that the freezing temperature issue has little to nothing to do with federal funding.

I think we can all imagine times where that sentiment is used against countries that the foreign policy establishment wants to drop bombs on. "North Korea can't feed its people yet they spend billions on a nuclear program!".

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. The cost of one modern heavy bomber is this: a modern brick school in more than 30 cities

Literally the 1st day of Econ 101!

It's also why the country is becoming more and more a country of haves, and have nots. Poor regions get poorer. Rich regions get richer. The county I live in, cannot even afford to run a full school year. It runs a 4 day school week. I mean, ok. There are parts of this country that don't really even qualify as being "first world" anymore. Yes, I grew up in Canada, and it's just baffling to me to see the disparity between rich and poor here.

I mean, a FOUR DAY SCHOOL WEEK. How is that fecking justifiable on any level for a country as wealthy as the USA? How?
