US Politics

What an idiotic post. as if a private citizen should be expected to do more than the only major supposedly left wing party

You don't have to do more than the Democratic party. But I'd expect something better than linking nonsense posts and posting 'welcome to the resistance' when anyone under the sun comes out something closely anti-Trump.

Perhaps it's time to say 'Eboue, welcome to the resistance'?

I joined the DSA. I go to meetings. I organize for a more just society.

But even if I didn't, my point would be equally valid. This is the politics section of a forum. talking about politics is what most of us do here, except you who logs on solely to defend the Democratic party whenever someone criticizes it.

It's also why the country is becoming more and more a country of haves, and have nots. Poor regions get poorer. Rich regions get richer. The county I live in, cannot even afford to run a full school year. It runs a 4 day school week. I mean, ok. There are parts of this country that don't really even qualify as being "first world" anymore. Yes, I grew up in Canada, and it's just baffling to me to see the disparity between rich and poor here.

I mean, a FOUR DAY SCHOOL WEEK. How is that fecking justifiable on any level for a country as wealthy as the USA? How?

Circus is complete .Oprah is looking to run in 2020. Just waiting for Dwayne Johnson now

Kmn

Edit: seriously if she runs every politician including Bernie should off himself. It's the end. They don't have work anymore.

Oprah? Feckin hell.

The depressing reality is she'd probably still beat someone like Bernie to the nomination. What an absolute shitshow of a political culture - across both sides of the spectrum.

Nor is that surprising.

Like most celebrities she's just a bandwagoner, at the time it was fashionable to ride the wave of patriotism following 9/11 so it's not surprising she embraced the Iraq war.

Of course I'd expect her to now claim she never really supported it, because you know, that's the fashionable trend now.

I guess this is bad news for Kelli Ward (a Bannon protege) and good news for the Dems seeking to take the seat.

That's encouraging news. Though the state republicans are appealing the decision and the supreme court will have a look into it.

U.S. Interior Department to put academic, nonprofit grants through political review
http://www.sciencemag.org/news/2018...mic-nonprofit-grants-through-political-review

The U.S. Interior Department will now funnel certain grants through a political screening intended to ensure the federal dollars "better align" with the administration's "priorities," according to a newly revealed memo.
The move invests considerable power in a senior Interior Department adviser named Steve Howke, who will be reviewing grants including those above $50,000 for universities, land acquisition purposes and nonprofits that can engage in advocacy.

The political officer eh? What an administration!

So a guy who fought for the flag and the American way of life (ie Zinke)n implements something akin to what you used to see in Nazi German and Soviet Union.

With any luck, it will be implemented in other Depts and praised by Trump for promoting alternative facts.

One of the few wealthy people I truly admire. Built his empire literally from scratch and through a lot of hard work.

That was his story, but he had plenty of financing. He only bought a house with a garage so he could pretend he started Amazon from his garage. His employees are treated like slaves though.

Oprah always struck me as a well meaning idiot. I didn't watch her show often but whenever I did there was some fad or concept or cause she was completely buying into without doing hardly any research on the subject.

If she ever got any power people around her would play her like a fiddle.

I have to say I'm a little bemused at how defensive posters are here regarding Hillary Clinton.

Given how most posters are extremely vocal with their disgust towards Trump (and rightly so), whenever anyone questions Hillary's integrity the same posters get so dismissive and defensive it's borders on condescension.

Its hardly a conspiracy theory to suggest that she's a morally compromisable individual with links to questionable factions. Heck, the Obama administrations covert support of Al Qaeda affiliated groups was probably one of the worst kept secrets in the middle East. In fact anyone who's observed their foreign policy over the last 50/60 years would know the US has a history of supporting extremist factions to topple and undermine their secular and Soviet-friendly rivals. They did it in Latin America, in Afghanistan and now they're doing it in the middle east.

This isn't just some lazy "but her emails!!" deflection customary of the right, but rather a genuine concern of the credibility and integrity of a presidential candidate who's has an open track record of being hawkish and objectively unfit to represent the progressive voice of America, and by proxy the free world. Yet if anyone progressive has the audacity to bring this into scrutiny the same way they'd do with Trump then they're met with derision and ridicule.

And you wonder why many voters on the left voted third party or just stayed at home. Hence it didn't surprise me Trump won, collusion or no collusion.

Which posters? Most of us here were Bernie supporters before the election and don't really like Hillary in the slightest.

Clinton is the reason Trump is now president. There's enough dirt there over the years as well.

Exactly.

Its convenient to pin the blame on collusion and the ignorance of voters, but the cold reality is she lost because she wasn't able to garner the support of progressive/moderate voters. Or more simply, she lost because she was a bad candidate, and you'd have to be a pretty awful candidate to lose to Trump.

Take a look at the treatment Eboue gets here from 'progressive' voters for having the audacity to vote Jill Stein, a genuinely progressive candidate.

That's not the same at all. You don't have to be a Hillary fan to think that not voting for her was very dangerous (dependant on the circumstances). If Eboue lives in a solidly red or blue state then good on him, but if he's in a swing state then voting third party in an election where Donald Trump was a candidate was not a smart idea. Unless you genuinely believe that Hillary would be as bad for America as Trump is, in which case you're sure as feck not a progressive.
