US Politics

It would obvioulsly require concessions from McCarthy - such as ditching Gym Jordan, Boebert, Gaetz, and Marge from committee assingments.
Which might be less than he is going to have to give up to get the MAGA crew

So I've been having this on muted in the background the last couple of days, but... is that actually what the main channel is airing? Are people actually watching watching this? For hours and hours?

So CNN/MSNBC are showing it live until the 5th vote (which thankfully is in the C's) and then cutting to discussion panels. Fox is usually showing hard hitting segments on Teletubbies using fentynol to groom kids to be marxist trans migrants..

So can you just nominate anybody to be speaker? I would have thought it would have to be a member of the House but apparently not!

Does the speaker get a vote? Even just in deadlock? Could you in theory nominate someone from outside and have them as an extra vote?

I don't know if the speaker gets a vote, but there is nothing in the Constitution that would prevent the speaker from being a non-rep (Article I states: "The House of Representatives shall chuse their Speaker and other Officers; and shall have the sole Power of Impeachment." ). Also, it is spelled chuse in the constitution. Legally it would be dicey as a serious argument could be made that the founders never intended for the second in line for the presidency to be an unelected person.

First time really watching mid day MSNBC and Katy Tur is awesome. The snark is perfection.

The speaker, or potential speaker that is IN congress can vote yes. But no Trump cant come vote from outside even though Gaetz voted for him twice now

Yep, that’s the only channel. I’ve had it on low volume as well, just keeping tabs on it. But, no doubt there are bigger dorks than I who are devouring every second of this.

She’s quite good. Just kinda stuck in midday.

Her family background is pretty cool, her parents were indie helicopter news reporters who got solo tape on some big stories.

Didn't know this, but I thought it was weird to see all the different angles. I am going to give Bishop a call (he's almost my rep by only a few miles...) and ask him to include "CSPAN Gone Wild" in his demands.

That'd have to be one hell of a deal for the Dems.

Yeah, I don't see any reason for the Dems to strike that deal unless it gives them a lot more than McCarthy would probably give.

As an aside, apart from Jones this morning the cavalcade of imbeciles who have done the nominating for McCarthy have had the collective charisma of a moldy sponge.

I haven't been following this so maybe this was already explained, but how does the process end? Surely they can't just keep voting forever, right?

No mechanism in place to stop it except someone receiving 218 votes.

This shit’s gone on for months before.

It will end soon since Republicans are looking increasingly tired of being humiliated and will probably negotiate something with themselves (or the Dems) to bring this to an end.

Do you mean John James?

And it ended then only when it was changed from majority of total voting to plurality, so I guess it could end with someone not receiving 218.

Round 9 and another quick loss for McCarthy. This must be some kind of record. Some one or some faction will surely crack soon.
