Yeah, pretty much. I swear the Biden admin is acting like they can only do one thing at a time.

COVID Relief/HR1-SR1/This shit all cold have been done at once. The fact it is not changing indicates how much of a priority they think it is. And the handwaving by AOC and others is complete bullshit. She should be hammering him on it or she loses all credibility.

Yeah, I remember hearing of this back when we lived there.

Is this something else to add to @shamans list in the the France/burkini thread?

Edit: Damn it, see you already did you sneaky bastard.
The sheer absurdity of this is staggering. fecking Hinduism? That’s actually a worry by the Alabama ruling class?

I am giggling while typing this.

It’s a tad unrealistic by many to think that the border crisis could be solved quickly. Bureaucracies just don’t work this way.

But the issue is the crisis persisting. The admin was hobbled at the outset by the previous admin, but they will have to own it eventually. Just don’t think it was at all possible 0.05% of the way into the tenure.

It’s a bit Pollyanna-ish on the right to think that the border crisis could be solved quickly. Bureaucracies just don’t work this way.

The crisis as a whole could not have been solved, on that I agree. However, the conditions that are still being shown are absolutely unacceptable. Those could have been solved, temporarily at least, if the will had been there. As we discussed earlier, the ACoE or FEMA could have constructed lodgings in a few days to weeks to disperse the minors to a CDC regulation density.

The insanity of Christianity in Alabama is insane. There are mega churches that have been allowed to form their own police forces (with full legal powers). When the local Muslim population got together to build a new place of worship they were turned away by city after city and there were public campaigns to stop them. Glad we're gone, but outside of Madison I would say WI is not any better.

Said it before, necks gonna neck, regardless the sunshine & temperature.

Churches with their own police force with their own plenipotentiary powers, my fecking god. I can only imagine how their ‘laws’ are determined & codified.

It's a good thing the GQP didn't base their platform on stopping "cancel culture"......

Anywho, no sympathy for Delta. They chose to help pass the law and then bowed to public pressure. They are now getting fecked from both sides. Hopefully the lesson they learn hear is that siding with the GQP is not a long term recipe for success. Just like their orange lord and savior they will turn on you in a second.

My lesson from this is always side with the GOP to save on taxes. This is what the companies will do and create an even worse world

It's not like Biden repeated the sentence "we can walk and chew gum" a trillion times during the campaign.

What twist? Seems like a normal corrupt day.

Funny to see how young boehner looked. That was before he smoked himself almost to death and before he saw the light.

How's the fallout from the Desantis 60 minutes piece down there ?
Haven’t heard anything. Was it last night? I haven’t even heard of it.

Oh, Publix. Won’t mean a thing. Public is dug in like a tick in Florida & many parts of the SE, but especially FL. The alternative is Winn Dixie. Even as a liberal, I can’t give up Publix for many reasons.

Imagine how proliferated it was when you were in Florida, it’s probably tripled by then.

Yeah it hit last night and right wingers have been infesting Twitter to defend their guy. Pretty shady stuff although 60 minutes didn't help their own cause by editing a lot of his exchange at the press conference out of their piece.

It’s also been widely known down here that it was shady giving the contract to Publix. Statewide newspapers of importance (TBT, Sentinel, Herald) have all uncovered their own flavor of impropriety through investigative reporting, so the impact certainly won’t be as visceral as it should have been. Too much was already baked in.

This fecking stump has quite the following. His propaganda team does well, from touting his Little League World Series appearance with Dunedin, his Yale exploits on the Diamond & off, his Trump affiliations, & his tough guy demeanor, it all plays well with the uneducated neck down here.

It's playing well with my educated RWNJ friends as well. He's gonna be the next cult following in the GOP if this DeSantis disease manages to spread past Florida.

Not going to lie, Publix is awesome, especially compared to the shit up here. My wife drove back from GA in Jan with a massive ice chest full of publix italian sausage and chorizo cuz nothing up here is even close.

Luckily we have not moved back down south yet, so hoping something changes at Publix before we do cuz yah.......

It’s literally hardwired into a native Floridian’s DNA & quickly adopted by new arrivals. It’s actually an absolutely brilliant company for whom to work, still family owned, employees start contributing to stock ownership on day one, typically rates better than peer companies re: internal employee ratings. Very savvy with its political donations as well, both sides of the aisle benefit.

It’s something Floridians cannot do without. It’s like the F-35, it has tentacles into every facet of a Floridian’s life, even into the rural hinterlands.

I prefer Kroger but they don't exist in parts of Florida, perhaps all of Florida. So, Publix is the next best option and there are three within two miles of my residence, and a fourth is maybe fives miles away.

Publix was the go to shoppping place when I lived in So Fla. In this instance, its pretty problematic to give 25% of FL's COVID vaccine supply to a grocery store with no accountability for how they will administer it, while at the same time the said grocery chain donated big money to Desantis' campaign.

Oh, for sure. I struggle with this like I do with Chick Fil A. On an employee level they are great places. They pay well, have good benefits, and the service/product is of the highest level. On the flip side the corporate leadership are assholes. Me not giving either of them business has no impact on the C suite people, but it will have an impact on my neighbor whose kid works there. I was especially impressed that our local Publix AND CFA locations in B'Ham also gave opportunities to kids with developmental disabilities. They each employed multiple teens/adults with down syndrome, a few of whom went to our church. Their parents would speak of how proud their kids felt being able to go to work.

It's conflicting.

They got their hand slapped by public backlash in 2018 for donating big time to Putnam in the gubernatorial primary, both by Democrats for obvious reasons (fronted by David Hogg & the die-ins), but also by Trump republicans who were pro-DeSantis. They lean right in their donations, just surprised they were so brazen this time.

They actually suspended donations to politicians for a while after 2018. Can’t remember exactly when they resumed.

It goes to a bit of a ‘too big to fail’ mentality.

If you think any meat sold in the US is awesome then you really need to try the food that we eat here in Europe. I can only imagine what nasty shit is inside Publix Italian sausage.

oh for sure. It’s Nothing close to what we had when in Ireland/France/Netherlands. It was more an indictment of the crap we can get up here in WI.

What's the main difference ? I'd imagine everything in Europe is grass fed and instead of the grain fed feedlot stuff people get in the states.

Everything tastes like actual food instead of processed rubbish. It's cheaper too. Even a burger at McDs tastes different here.

Get of your high horse we have a publix and wegmans where I live. I have not found a better meat/deli section in london or all of Amsterdam and I visit very frequently.

American beef is some of the best along with british beef but different flavors. The reason MCD tastes better in europe, which it does, is because mcd is usually the lowest form of food you can get there but in europe it's quite expensive compared to what you spend here.

This results in a cleaner mcdonald's with higher salaried workers who don't hate their job and throw you half assembled sandwhiches .

But it's not because of the beef. You want good beef go to peter lugers in NYC. So far no fancy european steakhouse has compared with all the sauces they try to add on their beef.

I think it is all about what you are comparing. I bet if you compare Publix to its European equivalent the quality would be similar. The difference, for me, is when it comes to restaurants. The quality of meats (mostly talking about charcuterie here, not steak/chops/etc.) we had while dining out in Europe beat the pants off almost everything but the high end places here in the states.

Maybe you could try some Florentine beef. I ate here a few years ago and it was a hell of an experience.
