It’ll be interesting to see what happens in 2022. Will people see through the republican BS or not?
I predict they won’t because to this point American voters have proven themselves to not be the best at learning from the past or being able to see through the BS which causes them to vote against their own best interests.

I think much of it will depend on Trump. If he is in jail, who knows if the mental deficients on the right will use that as a rallying point or ‘out of sight out of mind.’ Also, I can see things going either way if he is dead.

The wild card will be if someone 2.0 like Hawley (in the political sphere) or Tucker (in the entertainment sphere) will be able to create the faux-populist groundswell as well as Trump to mean their voters will keep voting against their self interests. A lot will be if the handlers & shapers of the campaigns will be as good as their 2016 versions.

Things are always in flux on the right but if i were to make a bet at this moment, it would be DeSantis. He's probably the only one who has national GOP appeal as well as the support of Trump and his base, without being too much of a sycophant to where independents wouldn't take a look at him.

Even v. Hawley, who will have considerable street cred with the core christian national / evangelical voter as well as playing well to more rational figures within the party?

DeSantis does tick off a lot of boxes, you are correct. He needs a cultural crisis of some scale within the state of Florida into which he could dive to create some buzz. He was far too sidelined on 1.6.

Hawley has squandered much of his early cred by turning into a Cruz style insurrection desperado. He could recover, but at this point it will be hard since he has basically outed himself as too immature to be taken seriously. He's also not as close to the Trumpers as DeSantis is.That''s not to say all of them (including Lyin Ted) won't run in 24, since the entire point of supporting the Jan 6 marches in DC was to position themselves favorably among Trump's base. We're only about 18 months off from the 24 campaign, so there's not much time for anyone to emerge - especially given that Trump himself will probably feign another run for long enough to allow him to play king maker with his favorite candidate.
 
DeSantis is gaining a huge fanbase from my GOP/right-wing friends, some already with "For President" postings on social media.

Would be interesting to see which sniveling weasel takes on Trump's inevitable demand to bring Don Jr or Ivanka as the VP.
 
I honestly can’t see a way past the rotten section of the GOP. They will say anything, do anything to obstruct, lie and steal. Greed for them is good. Their hypocrisy knows no bounds. It’s an endless sea of shit with them.
Whats to look forward to with people like that around?
I have colleagues at work that still feel the election was stolen, ffs. These people are college educated. I see no way back.

These cnuts are truly malicious (save for one wine-collecting brother in Florida, he is quite the leftie when compared to the rest of the family), it’s difficult to accurately discuss the scope of damage they have caused this country in the past few decades.
