I came to post this. She is amazing. I hope he gets a shot to the US presidency and people rally behind her. So far she is the only hope for US politics in terms of policy, decency and popularity

As cynical as this Is, whenever I show this kind of stuff to people, they say she’d be great for the presidency - my response is always that with the US she’s likely to be assassinated before getting even close to the office.

The Conservative Americans are absolutely terrified of her.

That is just slightly over the top, don’t you think? Their vitriol towards her would take some doing to match that displayed towards Obama, and he’s still kicking about.

Not going to lie I’m flabbergasted Obama made it through two terms.

Again, very cynical, but the only thing I see Americans more afraid of than a Black President is a ‘commie’ President - there will be people who would be genuinely willing to kill her to protect the ‘American Dream’ if she came close something like the presidency.

I used to get regular fox headlines and for an entire year after she won her primary, they did a daily story on her. It might well have continued but The Algorithm decided I didn't like fox so I'm not getting them anymore.

Obama was a president, these started before she was even a representative. Not saying she gets more, but if she got into the Senate or ran for prez these people would start exploding with rage.

She should get a decent shot in 2028, providing that the Dems won't have an incumbent at that time. And even in 2032, she would be only 43, which would make her the youngest elected president ever (and the second youngest overall). She is absolutely brilliant.

The more pressing question though, is if she will decide to retire Schumer (in 2022) or Gillibrand (in 2024). Retiring Schumer has the potential for massive havoc in the Democrat party. It is probably why Democrats for most part are nice with her, even when she goes a bit rebel.

I dont think she will try so early. She needs the american society to evolve and that would only happen when the +70 years old will die and the 0-18 will be of age to vote. So around 2040 the soonest

Why though? She is next to Biden and Bernie, arguably the most popular Democrat in the States. She would have a good chance to unseat Schumer, and would be a massive favorite against Gillibrand. If she decides to become a senator, she should be able to do so within 4 years (or make a deal with Schumer that he retires in 2026), but who I am kidding, all senators die in office after all. Unseating Gillibrand should be easier, so if she skips 24, then the next chance comes only in 2030.

And for president, the sooner the better. People in congress/senate become a bit of alien the more they stay there. Too many votes that you have to make, the longer you stay, the higher some of them will be very bad votes, and then Eboue and co. will spend all day long telling everybody about that. If Dems don't have an incumbent in 2028, she should definitely try then, otherwise on 2032, no point waiting for a possible better future, when she can make the future sooner.

I am discussing presidency, not senator

And my opinion is because the socialist label is too hard to swallow yet in US. as well as latino, woman and too young and too inexperienced for the old timers even if democrats and specially independents that are needed to vote for her. regeneration is needed in US. people that are used to see woman more than housewife wanna be something, that can see latinos of their age breaking glass sealings as normal and that socialism is not what they heard on the 50/60

Bernie was supposed to be the most popular and the more energized of the democrats and he was destroyed by good old Biden that has the charisma of a bathroom tile

But is a personal opinion and she might be able to pull it off. I couldn't be happier to be wrong. The sooner the better
 
AOC is being tolerated by Pelosi, Schumer et al because of how much influence she holds over the young, minority and progressive demographics. Make no mistake if she was ever to run for President, she would have the same push back and shit housery that Bernie received from the Democrat Establishment.

I think she would also loose like bernie did because put simply she (and he) are further left than most democrats and as such they would coalesce around a more centrist approach... Clinton, Biden and then whoever aoc will loose to (harriss, orourke, buttegig or some new flavour of the month)

Aoc could never unite the country though and I think more divisive politics in the USA would be a terrible thing ...

She's the democratic equivalent of Don junior or matt gaetz being the 2024 nominee

As much as i like her and thinks highly of her i dont think she has the ability to navigate the white house.

It's all good saying the right things when you're not the POTUS, but once elected It's gonna be tit for tat policy all over again. Going against pharmaceutical company? Regulation lobbyist profiteer? Going against racist institution? You need more than just ideology for that

Forget aoc. I dont even think a prime obama with full senates and house can do anything extraordinary beyond a few ratification and modification. Plus even if they can do so in one term it'll only mean the next republican president could do the opposite the next time they get in power

USA is a country run on automatic. Some superficial things looks changing but the brunt of her policy is already made up and senators runs the string on most issue.

Despite how much everyone likes to deify him, Obama didn't have particularly strong influence in congress, and didn't try particularly hard to push a progressive agenda even when he might have gotten away with it. He was a moderate along the lines of a Biden or Clinton, not a progressive no matter what he originally claimed in his campaign.
 
I think if the dems ever get the full sweep again, they'll be far more aggressive in lieu of the McConnell playbook. Before him no-one had used obstructionism as a guiding principal. Obama thought he was going to be dealing with an actual human being, like Boehner, not a devil in a skin suit like Mitch. Now that the GOP has shown they could care less about anything but political victories, the dems should respond appropriately.

Before Mitch the senate was generally viewed as reasonably bi-partisan and better at coming to compromises. The turtle sacrificed all that for trying his utmost to ensure the US is a country that only works for wealthy white Christian men for as long as possible.

She has already shown to be more flexible than Bernie, and easier to work with. After her skirmishes with Pelosi, there were already words that Pelosi is kinda mentoring her.

Of course, mainstream Democrats are gonna support some centrist though, that goes without saying. But I believe that she will have an easier time than Bernie who was never in great terms with Dems (and officially is not a Democrat).

The progressive cause would need to become the Dem establishment for her to ever have a chance. The Dems are more likely to get behind Buttigieg in the future imo.
