US Politics

And now they've got a letter from Ford's ex-boyfriend.

He says:
  • Ford never mentioned Kavanaugh or that she was a victim of sexual assault
  • he witnessed Ford help someone prepare for a potential polygraph test and said she explained in detail what to expect, how polygraphs worked and helped the person become familiar and less nervous about the exam
  • Ford never indicated a fear of flying
  • Ford was unfaithful and used his credit card after they broke up, spending $600

So apparently they think this disqualifies Ford? Surely the gazillion accounts of Kavanuagh being an obnoxious, drunk frat boy whilst maintaining he barely drank and was deeply religious disqualify him for the supreme court?

The double standards used (on both sides btw) or so fecking hilarious.

Can't we just deflate America and let it sink in to the ocean?

Lindsey's working hard to become the next AG.

Read this in the comments section of a Politico article. Don't know how true it is but thought it was interesting. May be one of the more informed ones can shed some light on it.

The case that could have enormous implications on the Russian investigation and the laundering of Russian mob money, is Gamble v United States. The NYT wrote: "The court will consider the question in Gamble v. United States, No. 17-646. Its answer may have implications for the legal problems faced by associates of Mr. Trump. Should he pardon them for federal crimes, a Supreme Court ruling narrowing the definition of double jeopardy could complicate attempts by state prosecutors to pursue parallel charges."

This is the most important reason that the Vichy GOP insists that Frat Boy Brett get onto SCOTUS more so that his belief that the President can't be indicted.
The Dallas Morning News reported last year that Graham was one of several Republican politicians to receive contributions from “a Ukrainian-born oligarch who is the business partner of two of Russian president Vladimir Putin's favorite oligarchs and a Russian government bank.” Graham received $800,000 from the Russian oligarch.

Graham was mainly protecting himself. He needs Frat Boy Brett on SCOTUS.

Senator Graham's sudden outburst and ranting at the so-called conspiracy was an effective distraction from the questioning of Frat Boy Brett by the GOP prosecutor who had just begun to ask Brett about his notes on his July 1st calendar. Graham must have realized that she was about to further question Frat Boy Brett about this gathering to drink some beers. His calendar notes mention at least two of the people that Dr. Ford said were at the small party where she was attacked. I believe that is why Graham acted out. The prosecutor never returned to ask Brett another question. The Vichy GOP men took over from that point on.

The accusations against Brett Kavanaugh are a million times worse than those made against Clarence Thomas,

You should watch Clarence Thomas describing what it is like to face these types of accusations, hearing about it first when it is about to be published in the papers and facing a public hearing about the matter. No sleep, dead emotions, family fractures etc. I'm guessing he wasn't in the best of shape, in fairness.

I know he is 'the bad guy' and if he is guilty he should face justice and deserves no sympathy but there is a presumption of innocence and if he is innocent it's literally a nightmare scenario.

In response to the tweet about recusing- Justice Thomas also accused liberal groups of 'producing' the accusation at the last stages for political reasons- as far as I know, he's not had to recuse himself from politically charged judgements.

Like i said. Accusation aside.

He's unqualified to even hold a judge seat let alone supreme court of justice judge.

He fails to demonstrate even basic qualities of a us official let alone one with such a high position.

Whatever his mentality at the time his job is of paramount position and he should be able to maintain neutrality even amidst allegation. This is the supreme court we're talking about, you really can't say the accusations are political bipartisan attack without prove, and proper investigations. He's a judge, no matter how absurd he thinks the allegation is he should have shown some impartiality, innocent until proven guilty and all that.

I feel this is spot on. In terms of his nomination, it shouldn't really matter if the accusation is true or not anymore - because he has demonstrated in the hearing that he's simply not fit for a position in the Supreme Court.

Ford herself says that she didn't tell anyone about the assault until she told her husband, so that's not a surprise.

also, him going: "there's no animus, but she cheated on me and took my money". It comes off as tailor-made to make it look like Ford perjured herself.

And it looks like it was sent to the Daily Caller and the Federalist, the first being Shapiro's toilet paper, and the second even worse. (actually, it was sent to Grassley's office, but the two aforementioned sites published it).

I will agree with this, although it does show the sham of his hearing before the senate. It really was a no win situation for him in the eyes of some.

The real issue is that the court is supposed to be a political. And Brett Kavannaugh has explicitly said he is not, and threatened Democrats explicitly.
Reminder: that's more than half the country.

Now I know all justices have political leanings, but this is the first time it's just been thrown out there.

The reason it's important is because trust in the court is crucial to the upholding of law. Nixon only released the tapes because he knew the SC would force him to. If a similar situation now arose, no way is Bart going to do the right thing. He has shown that he is a Republican first, judge second.

You really showing your face here again mate? Shouldn’t you be outside Ford’s house telling her she’s a dirty liar by now?
She is. But I'm sure the millions that have already been donated to her are keeping her warm. I also don't really have any inclination to behave like a wild animal like your side likes to. I mean, I guess you're forgetting those two women, one of them a left-wing activist, who cornered Flake in the elevator (in front of cameras) and shouted at him like uncivilized people.

As a judge of supposedly the highest integrity, this shouldn't matter. The fact that he is willing to lie about it to get the job he wants, means he isn't the right calibre to serve on the Supreme Court. He's going to judge similar cases that could result in somebody being sent to prison that hinge on the very thing he's lying freely about when it suits him.
It does matter. It matters greatly. The guy's life is ruined and you want to give the media even more ammo to ruin it even more, basically making him quit the job over a disgusting lie? If he was honest about his drinking in his younger days, that'd be it for him. It'd be basically admitting his guilt, regardless of whether he's done it and all his life's work would be in shatters, again, over a simple lie. It's not like did some crime, he just drank alcohol, like 99% of the people his age did. But given his situation I think anyone here knows how that'd be twisted around.

He's not accused of rape.
What is he accused of then? As far as I'm aware, she accuses him of "trying to rape her" that was only prevented because by some miracle as Mark Judge jumped on the bed and they somehow tumbled off the bed and she made her daring escape.

damn i guess that means kavanaugh is innocent
Don't you think there are a little too many red flags surrounding her? Even if she was of perfect integral character, which she is so far off, her claims still can't be confirmed by anyone but herself.

You know I'm right. These two used the camerass and the slimy, spineless little personality of Flake in order to back him into a corner and force him to change his vote. And I gotta say, it worked. But it was a disgusting tactic nevertheless.

No. I believe her and you ought to feck off back to the daily caller.

Ffs.

Proof she's lied or GTFO.
"Burden of proof". I can't prove a negative, it's her job to prove that Kavanaugh raped her. Besides her word, she has virtually nothing, though.

No. I believe her and you ought to feck off back to the daily caller.
Can't say I'm familiar with the daily caller.

The irony of this statement.
The stuff about her can be proven and are on record. The stuff he supposedly did are only per her word and that of two other, not really credible women.

Also, it's nice that someone changed my name, however I can't say I wouldn't have liked to receive a message about it. The admins of this site are not very tolerant to those that hold different views from them, and I heard the left is all about tolerance.

Nope. This is a job interview not a legal case, so the mere perception of wrong doing is sufficient for disqualification.

You're a right fecking scumbag aren't you, bloody hell.

Funnily enough, he just explains why rape victims don't want to involve justice and the public.

@Dumbat12 I absolutely have sympathy towards the justifiable fear of an accusation simply being true in the court of public opinion, even if it's not true.

Which is why we have to rely on institutions and process to ensure we're all safe from simple mob rule and slander.

Which is why, if a Scotus candidate is accused of a crime, they should request an FBI investigation, let it come back at the very worst 'inconclusive ' and move on.

What you don't do is continually refuse an investigation, show huge contempt for the court and the country by continually lying under oath in front of millions and also basically say I hate half the country and when I'm on the bench I'm going to enact revenge. At that point you're no longer qualified in my opinion. Oh and in 70% of the countrys opinion too.

It's not difficult to say the GOP hugely screwed this up, and should just have picked any other crazy right-wing judge from the list.

and I heard the left is all about tolerance.

Ah yes, the good old "tolerate my intolerance!" spiel. Unfortunately it doesn't work like that. If you don't want to get called out for saying dumb shit, don't say dumb shit. In any case, this isn't exactly an official state-sanctioned discussion site. It's not your god-given right to spread your hateful agenda on this site in particular.

I call bs on this. You're still here so I'd say they are very tolerant.

You've called her a liar. That's defamation.

You have feck all proof of her being a liar apart from the unedifying unending neon buzz of right wing outrage inside your brain. And you wonder why people are telling you to feck off.

She is. But I'm sure the millions that have already been donated to her are keeping her warm.

This is a lie and misinformation that deserves correcting.

The Ford family received relatively 500K in donations to cover their expenses. Considering her and her husband both have to take time off work, move out of their home, go into hiding and hire a 24/7 security team due to all the right wing wackos stalking and threatening them, that money is going to get used up very quickly. The idea that anyone would make up these allegations and open themselves up to a lifetime of right wing trolling, stalking and threats just for a GoFundMe is absurd and completely unfounded. They aren't getting rich out of this and in 5 years time its most likely this will be a net negative effect for them. So stop trying to paint this false picture.

23 years old and staunchly standing up for Republicans. Sigh!

Please explain to me the correlation between your life being ruined, and that making it okay to lie to congress.

Also please explain to me how it's okay to lie to congress if it's about something that you don't think is that bad, but it's not okay to lie to congress about other things?

That wouldn't be accurate. He got banned for an accumulation of things over time where his last comment simply wound up being the tip of the iceberg.

I still don't think he should have been banned, there was hope there.

Dumbass though, I'm not so sure. I mean sure we can be way too left at times, but wow, when you have a mother and you can be so anti-woman then...

I don't think he's anti women. I think he's pro republican and the woman in question is just collateral damage.
