Can you explain how they fell into a trap?

They accepted a limited investigation, opening the door to limited results that will not find the truth but instead will serve just as an excuse for republicans to squash their legitimate "FBI must investigate" argument.

If anyone's fallen into a trap it's Republicans with the "if he's lied, he's out" line.

I don't see how they'll prove he lied. You mean the drinking and passing out? It will be just claims, how can those former students prove he drank until passing out?

They were never in the conversation. Four republican congressman asked for an investigation, one has just come out saying a limited investigation will not do.

Nothing to do with the Democrats.

Democrats, from what I've heard, have accepted this investigation at a point nobody seems to know what are the limits and what influence the WH will have. I think it was a mistake on their part.

I predict in the end this investigation will help further republican talking points. I hope I'm wrong.

Democrats haven't accepted anything. The GOP didn't need their vote to confirm him, they couldn't give a feck what the Democrats do or think.

There is 4 GOP Congresspeople who said they would vote no without this investigation and as I said, one has already come out today and said that a sham investigation will not earn his vote.

So, simply put, this has nothing to do with the Democrats.

I wasn't clear. They have accepted in int terms of their public discourse, not in senate rules as they have no power there. I've heard a few democrats on TV and they seemed ok with the current investigation. They shouldn't be.

I’d love some quotes, I haven’t seen any that are ok with the current investigation. When republican politicians and conservative talking heads are questioning it I find it hard to believe Democrats are declaring themselves as OK with it in the media.

The most Democrats have done is accepted that there'll be an FBI investigation. And praised that aspect.

Pretty much, they didn't had any say on the scope and during the hearing it didn't look like they were asked anything.

So halfway through the investigation they've done "revised guidance" and it still has to end by Friday. Until there's confirmation from the FBI, Ford or Avenatti I'll assume it is crap and another one of the leaks Trump does that is different from what he actually does - like him saying there was no restriction in the first place which this contradicts.

An absolutely spineless individual. Even the Dems in this thread should despise him.
Calling a Republican politician spineless is redundant. It's understood when you mention that a politician is a Republican, that they are also spineless.

One of Kavanaugh's Yale classmates just went on TV to basically say he's lying about his drinking.

I would love to do that to some of my old classmates. Living the dream.

Such a bizarre thing to lie about. Never mind the fact that the truth ("I sometimes drank too much in my youth") would be highly unlikely to kill his nomination. The worst part is that it's so incredibly, ridiculously, utterly simple to find evidence disproving the claim. Even if there weren't any yearbook that made it pretty damn clear he was a heavy drinker, how could he not have foreseen that people would veritably queue up to tell the world how much he's lying? It's baffling.

Even if he does end up getting confirmed, this simple, pointless claim will have hurt the GOP. At the same time, it won't have made it any easier to confirm him, so... why?!

In case anyone would like to hear contrasting opinions to their own.

How about you actually articulate your own opinion for once?

Without clicking on that video, I can already guess the content from soyboy Ben.

'Diane Feinstein leaked the letter in the 11th hour'
'Booker and Harris were so mean to him in the hearing'
'Christine Ford is a Democrat partisan''
'Porn lawyer'
'No proof, why wait 36 years to come forward'
'Trying to ruin him by hoping FBI investigation will dig up a dirt unrelated to the accusation'

Like they are somehow groundbreaking, under every damn tweet or facebook post you can see rightwingers making those arguments over and over, while overlooking Budweiser Brett's flagrant lying, the accounts from his peers about his aggressive, violent behaviours when drunk, his copious amount of partying, his shameful display of naked partisanship in front of the Cmte. , his record of lying to Congressional investigation before serving under Bush, the mysterious disapperance of his debts.

Maybe it's you who actually need to take 'contrasting opinions to their own' into consideration, instead of 'hit and run' posting, hiding behind the intellectual midget that is Ben Shapiro on account of his Harvard law degree.

This seems important?

Text messages suggest Kavanaugh wanted to refute accuser's claim before it became public
A former classmate of the Supreme Court nominee has reached out to the FBI but hasn't received a response.

In the days leading up to a public allegation that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh exposed himself to a college classmate, the judge and his team were communicating behind the scenes with friends to refute the claim, according to text messages obtained by NBC News.

Kerry Berchem, who was at Yale with both Kavanaugh and his accuser, Deborah Ramirez, has tried to get those messages to the FBI for its newly reopened investigation into the matter but says she has yet to be contacted by the bureau.

The texts between Berchem and Karen Yarasavage, both friends of Kavanaugh, suggest that the nominee was personally talking with former classmates about Ramirez’s story in advance of the New Yorker article that made her allegation public. In one message, Yarasavage said Kavanaugh asked her to go on the record in his defense. Two other messages show communication between Kavanaugh's team and former classmates in advance of the story.

The texts also demonstrate that Kavanaugh and Ramirez were more socially connected than previously understood and that Ramirez was uncomfortable around Kavanaugh when they saw each other at a wedding 10 years after they graduated. Berchem's efforts also show that some potential witnesses have been unable to get important information to the FBI.
...
On Sunday, Berchem emailed FBI agent J.C. McDonough her memo. After getting no response, she resent the summary on Monday morning along with screenshots of certain texts that she thinks raise questions that should be investigated. “I’m sure he’s really busy and expect that he’ll get back to me,” said Berchem.

Why are you posting Shapiro? We're all just cab drivers, hairdressers and football forum posters, how are we supposed to follow, let alone understand, his advanced and superior thought processes?

In this context, 'contrasting opinions' are awfully reminiscent of 'alternative facts'.

This was discussed on MSNBC.

He is toast.

EDIT:

 sauce
Just bringing the transfer chat into the real hot forums round here ;)

Thanks, interesting. Still think they'll ram him home, f*ck the consequences.

Such a bizarre thing to lie about.
It's not really bizaree. He's blamed for raping a girl in a drunken state. Him saying "yeah, I drank a little too much sometimes" would make it so that the media would twist it in a way that basically implies his guilt "Well he obviously drank a lot, so that means that he raped the girl when he was in a blackout". And he would have no way to prove it isn't true. It was more than 30 years ago. That will be just enough to discredit him, regardless of whether it's the truth or not.

As for him drinking during high school/university, I mean - who didn't?
