Impeachment starts in the House. If it passes there by simple majority then it goes to the Senate where it requires two thirds to pass for a full impeachment where the person being impeached is actually removed from office.

If he had admitted that he liked to party in high school and that incident with Dr. Ford was a shameful incident, where he did something inappropriate in a drunken stupor for which he is truly ashamed, I think he'd be a SC judge today with more than 51 votes. But no, they always have to go out of the way to prove to the world what good little choir boys they were and the good god fearing christian men they are. Go out of the way to preserve their "spotless" reputation.

This Times story combined with Ford's lawyer saying they have not been able to get in touch with the FBI is very worrying if true. They are going to make sure the FBI don't go digging too much.

The most concerning quote from the NYT story IMO is:

"The White House has asked that the F.B.I. share its findings after investigators complete those interviews, and at that point, Mr. Trump and his advisers would decide whether to have the accusations investigated further, the people said."

The FBI are supposed to be autonomous and that single sentence above exemplifies the blinkered arrogance of the Trump White House!

The investigation is clearly an absolute sham being dictated by the White House.

As one of Ramirez’s friends said “it was supposed to be an investigation, it turns out it’s just an alibi for the GOP when they vote him in”.


With that in mind, it’s worth thinking about the context of this. Flake, Collins and Murkowski decided they wouldn’t vote yes until this investigation has been carried out.

They have all the power here, if they are not happy with the way the investigation has been handled, then they can quite easily say once again that they will not vote yes unless a satisfactory investigation has been carried out.


It’s pretty fecking obvious that they won’t do that and as such this investigation has been nothing more than a PR exercise for them. If they actually called for the investigation because they genuinely cared, they would be absolutely insulted that they thought this sham would pull the wool over their eyes.
