US Open 2009 Flushing Meadows

Did anyone see McEnroe and Djokovic play last night

Del Potro through, has to like what is going on in the Murray match as well

The Sky commentators are sickening.

"It's his wrist though, isn't it? His wrist? I mean, look...he's shaking it. That dirty Croat probably punched him in the wrist beforehand. He's doing well considering the unwarranted attack by his freakishly tall opponent. Murray's done well considering. He looks like a winner out there, broken arm or not. Ooooh, is this going to be the moment of inspirational inspiration? No. Ah bollocks.......Greg. GREG! Get your racquet. You're going to be British again. The Greg Gradient we'll call it. Much better than Henman Hill or *spits* Murray Mound."

Impressive from Cilic, poor from Murray.

Different slam, same problem. Too passive and let Cilic dictate play and blast him off the court.

Don't buy the wrist being that much of a problem, could have called for the trainer if he needed some treatment.

I was sure that Murray was going to win a grandslam but after today Im not so sure anymore. That was just so passive it was unbeleivable. Even his backhand was lost. Very disappointing because I thought he'd win a grandslam in 2009.

In 2009, it was never going to happen, he has made the jump as a player who can be considered at three though there is no doubt about; however the gulf in class between he and Nadal/Federer is still quite sizable, and we were the gulf is biggest today, mental fortitude. I thought he had grown up a lot as a player but once he lost the first set, it was clear that it was over. Each time one of Cilic's mishits turned into a good shot he became more and more annoyed, focusing on Cilic more than he was focusing on his own game. He still could have easily won the match in 4 sets had he gone after it after the first set, but instead he became Mopey Murray.

Very disappointing to see Murray lose to Cilic so convincingly especially when you consider how Murray is always keen to stress that the US Open is his favourite tournament and the venue that presents his greatest chance of winning a major title.
2009 has been a bit of a disappointment now for Murray I feel, after getting to the US Open final in 2008 you would have hoped that was the springboard into him making more of an impression in the slams this year.
Next year Murray will have to deliver otherwise the pressure to win a grandslam title will be intense, he won't be considered to be a young player forever, there is competition from the likes of Del Potro and Cilic (both 20), Tsonga and Monfils who are of a similar age to Murray as well as Nadal, Federer and Djokovic of course.
