US Open 2009 Flushing Meadows

Nadal is very good but to say he is better than Roger is just not so. They are very even but the contrasting style of play makes it interesting between them. People go on about Roger taking advantage of Rafa's injury, but Rafa took advantage last year when Roger had mono and back problems. Being able to win matches quickly and conserve energy is part of being a great player, and if Nadal's style of play curtails his career that's too bad.

In all honesty, I am a huge Federer fan. He is easily my favorite player atm. I honestly think all things being equal Nadal is probably better. Knee problems are much worse than a sickness like mono, Rog;s back problem was minor. When Nadal hits top form again he will probably beat Rog in three at the French and then again Wimbledon. Whatever happens here is up in the air, Rog is clearly the favorite but he has so many challengers, that are quality. Men's tennis is sight to see these days, so many quality players.

She is awesome, I'm happy for her. One thing is for sure the crowd will be behind her.

Tennis Grand Slams are just awesome in general

Roddick's return percentage at 83% which is absolutely unprecedented for his career. All the credit to him he's worked a lot on that part of his game and it's paid off.

Just as I say this he gives up five straight points when up 0-40 with three break points.

Roddick dropped the first set to Isner who is playing quite well, and is also a giant.

Is he the one sponsored by UnderArmour?

Roddick will slam a couple aces down his throat in this game.

Yeah I wish all Slams played it out like Wimbledon

Yeah I actually think you are correct. It just seems to happen a lot at Wimbledon, and who could forget the last two men's finals

And Isner wins, too bad for Roddick has been playing some good tennis

Isner is def improving, I thought he would lose his first round match in all honesty but he has looked good at Flushing Meadows.

Isner and Karlovic will always be dangerous on a reasonably fast court because their height gives them a powerful serve that comes at a different trajectory from what players are used to.

Blake and Robredo isnt going to get over til like 2 am

Safina is in the third set of her match as well, after dropping the first set she won the second. Women's tennis, she is the number one seed and should be wiping the floor with her opponent.

Tie break, after Safina blew a number of match points on the Kvitova serve.

Yeah her serve is utter wank, I guess you could blame some of it on rust and shoulder problems but she is always good for double digits or so, that just asking to get broken. They are essentially an anti-ace.

It's hilarious basically all of the top men are still in, and all of the top women are out basically bar the Williams sisters and Clijsters(who is low ranked but still at top player)

No surprise that Safina isnt living up to her potential, her own brother could have won several Grand Slams but has been one of the biggest wastes of talents of all time.

I wouldn't rank Clijsters in that top tier at the moment.
Being away for 2 years, having a baby and enjoying life isn't exactly wiped out again in 2 months. She might have been training for a while before that but this year I don't expect anything yet from her. She already exceeded expectations here by being in the 1/8th finals.

The other Belgian girls had/are having a great tournament as well by the way. Flipkens reached the 3rd round, only to be knocked out by Clijsters and Wickmayer won her game yesterday and is also qualified for the 1/8th. Unexpected results. Tennis is very much present again in the Belgian media, after ignoring it for a year since Henin quit playing.

I still don't get the New York scheduling. Serena Williams completes her 4th round match before Murray starts his 3rd round. And yet it is Murray who stands to be playing up to 5 more best of 5 set matches in a week.

Safina's such a moody bitch, I love watching her fail. And why the feck is she STILL number one, when she's STILL not won a fecking Grand Slam? Sad state of affairs the women's game is in.

Is Federer out yet?

Almagro breaks back on Nadal 4-4 in the second set
