Unpopular Opinions Thread

We could bin our entire defence except Smalling and replace them with midtable players like Williams, Shawcross, Dann and they wouldn't look any worse.

We should call this thread the knee jerk thread.
And the people get touchy thread.

I feel like if Memphis was known to play as a #10 before he joined us, then nobody would be saying anything about his performances or saying he looks a bit lost. Personally think he's looked really good and showed encouraging signs in all the games so far. The only reason people are complaining at all is because he was normally a left winger, nothing based on his actual performances.

Tyler Blackett > Paddy McNair

That's not a dig at McNair, just think Blackett has more of a chance at making it.

I completely disagree with this one! I can't see anything in Blackett. He seems headless and positionally stupid. McNair has a footballing brain.

Mata isn't good enough to start.

Is that unpopular? I don't actually know the general opinion on Mata. My view is that he plays within himself for us.

He's not a right winger. He can playing on the right of a 4-5-1 but definitely not in this shite 4-4-2.

Not sure if its unpopular or not.. but I hate that we have spent so much money and not gone anywhere.
The team just doesnt look right.. too many big money signings.. no one really to take charge and drive us forward.

Van Gaal is a very strange man and we deserve a better manager than him. Problem is there's not many out there at the moment. Pining for Guardiola.

Pep is the hero Redcafe deserves, but not the one it needs right now.

One of our most expensive signings - Marouanne Fellaini - had very little gametime yet pumping the ball upto him against PSG and hoping for him to get his head on any one of those crosses from Perreira that nobody could reach was probably the only way we could have a shot at PSG.

We will not win any trophy this season, finishing third in EPL and not reaching the quarter finals in CL.

Anyone who doesn't think the signing of RvP is a genius act should feel ashamed. Yeah, you should. I can say for sure if Fergie has not retired, RvP would still be a United player and contributing for a couple more year. Yes, its all speculating but this is my speculation. When SAF signed RvP, he had not the intention he was retiring.
Yeah, no. The RvP transfer was no genius move. One of the best centre-forwards of the world became available and Fergie bought him to play as a centre-forward. It was a risky move, considering his fitness record, but hardly genius. Just like it wasn't a "genius move" by Perez to buy Ronaldo.

Signing Cantona, a man who fell out with just about everyone throughout his career, and making him the catalyst for his first title-winning side, was genius. Getting Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic for a combined 11 million was genius. Sticking Park on Pirlo was genius. I could go on but the RvP signing was not.

He's banned for three games, it's not that weird he's not playing much on the Tour.

Smalling and Herrera have not been playing as much as they are 2 players who were trusted to lead the younger team and will fit seamlessly into a 4-3-3

We are currently playing the same system we played last season, with Depay in Fellaini's position and Schneiderlin in Herrera's position, which, to Van Gaal, is interpreted as a 433. This is the system he played at Bayern, and this is the system we will use for most, if not all, of the season.

seems like there's more roaming, like Carrick is being pushed higher this year, not just sticking to the base like last year?

Ay, you're kidding yourself. They've been dropped and Herrera in particular will be lucky if gets a league game before October.

Chris Smalling has been promoted to third captain why would LVG drop him?
He trusted him to be the main man in a defensive 4 that is inexperienced and with Tony V

Herrera was one of our best players in the past few weeks of last season and he was trusted to help out the younger midfielders.

I think it's a weird sort of 433 as well. Also, you're right about him using this at Bayern.

One loss in a pre season game and the Caf meltsdown, and we have the cheek to laugh at RAWK.

See how you contradict yourself there! First you said you have not said at all and then go on to say these three options are vastly better options for the club. Better as in how? United has gradually become a club like Chelsea or City (to buy title) and still not it is not guaranteed we will have title with all those spending. One of the reasons I want to give Giggsy a chance is, he would not be spending for the sake of spending (and selling in mass!) and yet he can be given a chance to have a crack at title chasing. Why not.

What you said have proven me right, Giggsy would never never be good enough because once those proven managers are available, they are preferred. You said it there--- Vastly better options in your words.

You're getting me wrong with this one. Personally, I'd take the likes of Mourinho, Guardiola and Ancelotti over an unproven Giggs. I think it'd be a bit mental to do otherwise, but then everyone's entitled to their opinions obviously.

What you also said though was that people would never give Giggs a chance if he was made manager, and that's where I disagree. People would perhaps prefer another choice, but I've got no doubt that if Giggs was ever chosen then we'd back him and give him a chance. If he failed, we'd want rid of him, like any other manager. If he succeeded, we'd all be delighted, naturally.

Head in the sand, mate.

Herrera in particular is up shit creek.

Smalling will get back into the side because either Jones or Blind will make too many mistakes, forcing the manager's hand.

I guess so, and maybe this might have been due to Herrera's lack of defensive awarness that Carrick didn't press as much. Now that Carrick will have Bastian or Schneiderlin next to him, they can play as a double pivot.

Sorry mate but it's not a case of one loss in a pre-season friendly. It's about a bulk of weird decisions, unconvincing performances and strange selections.

To make it clear- i couln't care less about results in US. Reoccurring themes like not playing best defender to fit in left-footed Blind, like omitting Herrera and insisting on Rooney being the man providing us wtih bucket loads of goals.

I don't trust LVG and and each passing game rather rises my doubts.

I hoped so, but he would have played more then less then 3 halves of football in 4 games if that was the case. If Herrera was going to be starting, he would be tried with the rest of the starting team in the PSG game at least.
