United's transfer dealings

The Moura thread is closed. So this being related to United's transfer dealings, I thought would go in here.

PSG Ronaldinhoed us.

Reminds me of Roy Keane with Blackburn and us, except Keane chose football.

My only concern is that we always seem to miss our key targets every year with only a few millions short with our valuation.

It shouldnt be a concern. It has been happening for years. It happens to most clubs.
Small talent pool, lots of clubs with money.. Some with a lot more to throw around than us.

We dont rely on these targets.. We have a team good enough to compete. We'll get the one who fits into our budget and work that way. I'm fine with that.

I can't be angry for us not willing to pay 6m to Hazard's agent and giving him 180k/week or not paying ~50m euros in transfer and agent fee for a kid who has only played in the Brazilian league.

As far as I am concerned - we did everything right in the Lucas-affair. We got him and the club to agree - we just can't prevent PSG from waltzing in with more money afterwards.

If the rumours are true about Lucas getting 250k a week at PSG, it's more than a few million short and I'm glad we missed out on him. No 19 year old deserves 250k a week.

No way. Link please.

It must be 250k/month. Most Lucas articles in the past have mentioned his wages/month.
Must be the way in Brazil.

Our squad is quite settled for this season.

I am still in awe at how many people I know who have come out and put Arsenal and Chelsea finishing above United now because they've made some signings.

The responses have usually gone. "Chelsea signed Hazard they're instantly better" or "Giroud and Padolski will fill in for the lack of RvP they are looking much better now". I am just baffled that 'signings' equal the team is instantly better. Ok replacing Titus Bramble with Nemanja Vidic, fair enough. But Chelsea and Arsenal signings still have to gel.

I dunno - I don't usually make predictions for the season I just watch it and hope United is going to win the title but everyone has gone to putting United in 4th or 5th this season on the table. It's more than a bit weird. It's fecking mental.

I apologize for not being part of the choir but I am concerned about the fact that nearly all our main targets end up somewhere else. To make matter worse there's hardly a Fergie Babes Mark 2 waiting in the youth academy (in the near future) and the two most promising kids (Pogba and Morrison) have left for one reason or another. Now if you think that SAF is spending money out of Lulz then go ahead. I think that we're trying to spend money because we need to.

Regarding the current transfer market, well it had been mad for decades. To think that clubs has been spending millions on spoiled uneducated brats who can pick a career threatening injury at any time is maddening. However this is the market we're working in and no one is going to change that. We did some healthy profit through that market (80m on Ronaldo) and if you ask me, Id rather see the 75m generated from the shares invested on the club rather then end up in Glazer's pocket. Let us forget that we were amongst those who were responsible in turning a sport into a business which generated millions in the first place. Seeing our owners talking about our club as a 'franchise' is as sickening as seeing a sugar daddy throwing 45m at Lucas. At least the latter are strengthening their team not weakening it (by putting a mountain of debt on it)

The way I see it, the club is trying to get the players we need, but at realistic wages. The club has shown the willingness to splurge big amounts on young players, the main issue we face is their unrealistic wages which players demand nowadays.

If the likes of Hazard and Lucas can command more than 100k/week at such a young age where they are largely unproven, the majority of the squad will be queueing up for a pay raise.

If Lucas is really getting 250k/week at PSG, his 5.5 years contract roughly costs PSG over 100m, for 100m I'll be expecting Messi/Ronaldo like performance weekly for years. And the chances of that happening is near zero.

That's silly. Adebayor is on something similar isn't he? What's important is that he meets PSG's expectations, not anyone else'.

So if we had the lucas money set aside i wouldn't mind seeing SAF making a quiet call to Levy's and offering him £40 mill for modric. It one stroke we would have taken our team up a notch with a proven worldclass talent!
Though as previously expressed i believe our £30 plus million signings our a thing for the history books.Watching them on the news at NYSE i'd like nothing more than to stick a number on their foorhead showing the clubs debt, while those arseholes rape our club and use it as a tool to prop up their other failing franchises we aren't going to compete on the top table.

Which was why he was supposedly happy when we offered him around 50k/week to sign for us, but 250k/week and getting to live in Paris beats the honour of playing for us

As much as it pains me to say it you can't really blame him. He is making 5x the amount to do the same job in Paris rather than Manchester, its a big head turner although ridiculous at the same time. The thing now is that PSG don't even need to be worried about Barca, Real or even City turning his head in a few years time due to his astronomical wages

I think the Adebayor example is what it's all about. Bought during City's "laying down markers" phase, loaned out to Madrid then to Spurs and very hard to sell.

PSG spent money last year, but couldn't convince Kaka to be the name signing. This year they got Zlatan. They're on the map. A big young signing from Brazil adds to the image. A couple of years on and they can compete on the field and for the top talent.

Then they have to start selling the deadwood.

Sure. My point is that just because PSG is paying him crazy sum doesn't mean he's expected to perform like Messi. That's like saying if Lescott is on 100K at City he should be performing like Vidic.

psg has bought better than city though. what real 'dead wood' did they bring in on big wages?

are gameiro and menez on big wages? they are solid professionals that will have good careers at psg. I can't imagine matuidi, sissoko, and and motta on monster wages either and they all have roles to play.

Their 'big transfers' as far as i can see are pastore, lavezzi, ibra, silva, and moura.

Two are youths with potential that they'll want to keep on the books for quite some time, two are in their prime and good fecking players of which one could be arguable best CB in the world, and one is a legendary superstar that is probably going to see out his career at psg.

I don't see PSG being handcuffed like city, who made some really shit deals like jo and bridge.

Yeah, hell if they stumped up a valuation for Rooney which the club is happy with and offered him 5X his current contract to leave, I wouldn't be happy with it but would understand why if he accepted it. Like it or not, football is not just a sport, it's a business and their career.

We'll switch job if a rival firm offered 50% wage raise, so why blame footballers if they decide to do the same.

So, after signing RVP, where are all the Glazer haters now?

Anyone starting have that feeling of deja vu where we hear rumours of us being in for a number of top class marquee signings, though no stop the press!

*There is no value in the market!
*Player or club want to much much cash!

But wait we are playing the long game, we'll invest in youth and wait for them to turn into superstars and save ourselves a fortune. Let them other clubs sign these worldclass players to add quality to their squads, they haven't got youth academies recruiting and training top talent like us!

he he!!

Rumours everywhere that Hernandez is set to hand in a transfer request. That'll be big.

No, it's a rumour posted in the twitter forum that you now chose to post in here, you are spreading it, it's not like it's everywhere and honestly to me it seems like bollocks.

Sorry, I was watching French TV and then I saw it all over twitter here as well. It could be bollocks, I guess. It's one of these things that is vaguely plausible though.

Hernandez doesn't strike me as the type to want to bail after 2 seasons just because another striker has arrived.

I doubt this really changes much.

I'd say about half the people on here who complain about the Glazer's complain mainly because of their frustration over a lack of 'marquee signings' rather than their frustration about ticket prices, long-term financial stability and the overall ownership issue in today's game, bizarre as that may be.

Hernandez is absolutely lethal when he's on form. If there's one consolation I'm going to take from the RVP signing it's that Hernandez probably won't get as many chances as before. I'm clutching at straws.

I have a feeling one of the forwards will have a different role next season (Rooney to CM, Kagawa to CM with Rooney/RVP as forwards)

Besides, we only have 4 strikers. I'm sure there's enough game time for everyone, considering form, tactical changes, and injury

Young South American starlet in and world superstar in over the course of two days... now what do we do in this forum?

United are a much more fluid, potent side without Hernandez

Would you prefer to face

Rooney and Hernandez
Or
Rooney and van Persie?

I doubt we'd let Chicharito go so easily regardless - hopefully GCHQ will remind the relevant people about Chicharito's real strength: his marketing ability :p
