United in this Summer transfer window

There's also the "Ronaldo won't renew" story in A Bola, which has been repeated by every other paper. It's not pure WUMery.

The Sun are saying we are offering £65m and a player for Ronaldo...

rooney perhaps? nani is a possibility but maybe he wants to stay now if ronaldo is going to return.

my dream situation is that money + valencia for ronaldo. real was interested in tony v before he signed for us few years ago. not going to happen though.

 the thought of Real Madrid wanting Valencia in his current state.. what a deal that would be for us.

Twice in Daily Mail today(once in Martin Samuels column), they've referred that we're trying very hard to get both Fabregas and Ronaldo for next season.

Why would we want to sign two players who have been very poor for their current clubs. We need to buy quality not quantity.

It is understood that Moyes will aim to spend the £80million on Marouane Fellaini, Karim Benzema, Nicolas Gaitan and Thomas Vermaelen.

Oh my!!

So Vermaelen is shit at Arsenal, and has been dropped. Queue talks that he is good enough for the champions

That's clearly just made up bullshit but there's no way Madrid will sell Benzema given that Higuain is almost certainly leaving.

Surely people don't think that there is anything in this Ronaldo coming coming back stuff, it's not happening, if we are going to spend a huge amount of money it would surely be on Bale and I doubt that will happen almost as much.

Bill Kenwright said in the press conference today that unlike Dave Whelan saying Martinez could take Wigan players with him for the right price, he has told Moyes that Everton's stars aren't for sale. Which would imply we won't move for Baines or Fellaini.

He could be bluffing of course.

Everyone's for sale. Welcome to the world.

In terms of incoming players, this has been one of the quietest starts to a transfer window in quite some time as far as United are concerned. We haven't been reliably linked to even a single player so far. All the links so far seem to be either from some bored journalists, or from some nobodies on twitter.

If it's true that he doesn't want to renew his contract then they have little choice but to sell him this summer. The percentage of the 80M that they can recoup this summer will be much higher than what they can recoup next summer with one year left on his contract. It makes sense, but it's also possible that many of the journalists who keep linking us to Ronaldo are just putting two and two together.

I agree that it's been quiter for us than usual, but I'd say we have been reliably linked with Strootman. I mean, the rumours that we want him have been going on since last November. Plenty of folk over there have commented on it, and Advocaat's quotes recently do imply that there is definitely something in it.

Surely I can't be the only one who thinks that Strooty is a nailed on signing for us? Very much has the De Gea-esque feel to it. For me anyway.

Feels like one of the first years that I don't have a clue who'll we sign, there's nobody really out there available of the quality that we need.

Everything will be revealed, soon. We already have one signing presentation ahead of the player who is young but already skillful and absolutely promising.

Not every year a guy like Sir Alex retires from being a manager. Club will propably need a bit more time to get everything in place but I don't believe that Gill and SAF didn't prepare a good start for the new boss.

I have only heard his agent say that he wants to come to England and his coach saythat he could be as good as Barry (compliment? ). Rest of it just seems like Twitter BS to be honest. I'm sure the club must have already made plans for the transfer window, it's just amazing that nobody seems to have any idea at all what they are.

I would think so. Strootman is just too random a name for there to be nothing in it. And his name has been mentioned for ages now. There's something in it, but whether Moyes fancies him is another matter.

I am not sure we will sign a lot of players this year. Last year was only negative due to the fact that our wingers had an extremely shocking season and the coach disliked the only good winger for unknown reasons. Combined with the fact that our midfield suffered from injuries.

We have a new winger already in Zaha who can partner Nani if we want to play with fast, dribbling individually excellent wingers. We have Welbeck/Kagawa who we can play if we want to use our wingers to help dominate the midfield battle. We also have Valencia/Young who we can't sell because nobody will pay their wages and they will not accept going to a shittier club and losing money doing so.

I mean we have 6 possible wingers, 7 with Rooney so I doubt we will buy yet another one. Especially as Nani and Valencia are absolute world-class on their days as well.

Then we have 2 absolute world-class options for the AM/CF position in Kagawa/Rooney who are very different players and also RVP/Welbeck/Anderson/Cleverley as back-ups in the unlikely event of Kaga/Roon not being able to play.

For the CM positions we have Carrick, Anderson, Cleverley, Jones, Rooney, Powell, Januzaj. Moyes has expressed his desire to implement the talented youths in to the team and that is impossible if we have yet another midfielder coming in. Even if we sell Anderson and get a new midfielder in our youths will have very low chances of getting any relevant game-time.

In the defense we have 5 CB's rotating and Rafael/Fabio/Evra/Buttner/Valencia/Jones/Smalling all capable of covering up for the wing-back positions.

Am I the only one thinking that we need to get rid of some players before we can invest in new players? Especially after Moyes official statement regarding our youth, which will be absolutely crushed if we add an 8th winger and a 7th central midfielder. How often do you see a 6th and 7th choice get enough game-time to develop in to top class players?

That doesn't play as big a role as people seem to think. They broke the world transfer records for Figo and Zidane and didn't make a penny back from them in transfer fees.

Ronaldo is a huge asset in a commercial sense and obviously a fantastic footballer so Madrid may very well decide to keep him for two more years in the hope of a CL win, and, let him leave for nothing when his contract expires. I'm sure Ronaldo could hold out for another two years, even if he does want to leave, knowing that because he's leaving on a free any club he moves to would be able to afford to pay him very handsomely indeed.

You're being very kind with regards to the versatility of every player and the current standing of Powell and Januzaj. Just because players have played there in the past doesn't mean they should be considered as an option for that position, just that they're available if all else fails.

We realistically only have 2 CMs when you remove the ones with huge question marks over their heads and that's Carrick and Cleverley.

Anderson - injury problems/fitness problems
Giggs - turns 40 in November
Fletcher - coming back from a difficult spell out
Powell and Januzaj - Still coming through.

If we don't sign a midfielder regardless of who stays I'll be shocked.

Yeah, and Fellaini apparently has a £15m release clause according to Kenwright who refused to reject rumours that they might sell him.

I think you misunderstand me, I am not saying that we shouldn't sign a new player I am saying what you brought up yourself. We need to decide which players should leave the team as Moyes has said he wants to invest in the youth.

You can't both invest in the youth and have Anderson, Cleverley, Jones and Giggs as back-up CM's. It is completely impossible to give Januzaj and Powell any game-time in relevant games if we have that idea. In current football it is not alright to get your talents to turn in to regular first-teamers are the age of 25+. It means they had 4-7 years less game-time in the top flight than their Italian and German counter-part which means we can't compete at all as game-time is what matters most of all.

The same goes for any youth striker who is an up and comer. He will be the number 5 behind RVP, Chica, Rooney and Welbeck for just one positoin. Meaning the chance of him starting a game that has any relevance at all is extremely small.

Buying new players without selling any and still invest heavily in the youth is completely impossible.

probably...not proud to say I've never heard of him prior to reading about us possibly signing him a few days ago...but in all honesty this sort of transfer doesn't surprise me...even if we do have adequate back up at the RB spot. with all this talk of big name signings (which I'm still sensing atleast 1 will come later) this isn't what a lot of people had hoped for but given Moyes' history with transfer budgets up to now and Ferguson also being "shrewd" with these types of signings before I guess it was kind of what I expected.

Like someone else said on here, I reckon we have already tied up a couple of signings which will be announced after Moyes officially starts in July....
We'd have heard something if we'd signed 2 players already, providing they weren't random no names or youth players.
