United in this Summer transfer window

Looks like we'll get fellaini, I know it's reading between the lines but Wigan turned down a 10 million bid from everton for James McCarthy so possibly everton are planning for life after fellaini?

Everton trying to get someone on the cheap, who'd have thought it. We should try that.

It's Kagawa he will be replacing, moyes will find space for Giggs.
Why would he replace Kagawa, he doesn't even play?

Always finding space for Giggs also seems to be our problem.

Best case, we nick ozil and get fellaini. Worst case, we get no one and Anderson leaves to become a professional eater.

The second instalment of Rio's tour diary on MUTV tonight had two separate incidents of the players making jokes about Anderson's eating - it's not just a Caf obsession :nervous:

I've heard that a good few times. They all seem to pass comment on it and his training attitudes.

Are we failing to attract players do some think now Moyes is at the helm? Never thought I'd say this but I'm starting to wonder. If we end up with Fellaini and/or Baines you really would wonder why we didn't do these deals early given the release clause. It smells of indecision, trying for better options, failing then going for who you know would accept..

Care to join me?

I've been having a meltdown since the end of the Liverpool game.

This was me after hearing of Ozil to Arsenal and our impending Fellaini deal:

*DO NOT WATCH IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN BREAKING BAD SEASON 4*

I fear this may be the state of the caf tomorrow night.

You can sense it in the air can't you? It's genuinely teetering on the edge here.

Our lack of midfield signings in the last god knows how many years, SAF leaving and Moyes coming in with his goon squad, a seemingly new clueless chief exec, our only realistic signing looking like Fellaini, losing to Liverpool today and now it looking likely that Arsenal will sign long time CAF poster boy Mezhut Ozil is basically the perfect storm waiting to happen.

All the elements are in place for the meltdown of all meltdowns. Truly this is the end of days.

I have it on SSN and I saw Manchester on the breaking new bit so my heart jumped a bit, only to find that City have made another signing. What a let down.

The problem we have is, if we really wanted a player in the past, Fergie had the authority to go and say "feck you, stop messing about, just get this guy" to the board. And even then we lost out on a few players.

Moyes quite rightly doesn't have that authority yet and is somewhat hand tied by what the moneymen feel is adequate to be paying for these players. Its something he'll have to build up.

Yeah, there was a lot of worry about what would happen financially when Fergie left, it was always pretty clear that the club knew to just let him do what needed to be done because it was better for them in the long run, I highly doubt that if Moyes said "I want to spend £24m on a 29 year old, injury prone striker with a year left on his contract", the club would've given the thumbs up.

Fellaini would be a good signing, I can see us having to pay over his release clause to get him though which would be mental given how long we have been linked with him

Should have had that deal wrapped up ages ago, he would have improved us today.

I sat through the full Everton v Cardiff game yesterday mainly to watch Fellaini and Baines. Fellaini played in the role that I imagine Moyes would want to use him, as a DM sitting in front of the back four. His contribution to the game consisted mainly of spoiling and petulance. He offered nothing in the build up play or going forward and looked lazy and uninterested. He was totally outshone by a player 6 inches shorter playing the same role for Cardiff, Gary Medel. Ok, Fellaini might have had his head turned by us but on this performance he would be the most underwhelming signing in recent history.
Baines however was decent and his attacking play and crossing was very good and he should have been awarded a penalty. Unfortunately for Baines we already have a better player in Evra so he's not really needed.

Agree with the second part but not the first, don't think the players would give too much of a shit about Moyes being in charge. Why would they? It's still Manchester United.

The other part is spot on though, its been a dire window from Woody. If we end up with Fellaini it will be a complete joke, not because hes a bad buy but because it should have been sorted a month ago.

Not Rooney though, and he isn't going anywhere
He's got two years left on his deal and he's not signing a new one, we better start preparing for life after Rooney. It seems risky to put your future on a player who doesn't even want to be there and would rather play for your title rivals.

Didn't watch the game so I'll take your word for it.

Judging by the stats though he didn't seem to do badly, over 90% pass success rate so wasn't giving it away and made the most tackles of anyone on the pitch. Shit way of reviewing a performance so I'm not saying he must have played well due to the stats, but he cant have been too bad. I think we need a ballwinner more than anything else next to Carrick at the moment anyway, especially somewhere like Anfield. Whenever I've seen him play CM, which is the 10/11 season, he looked absolutely fine for what I think we need, and hes improved as a footballer since then

It's been a disgrace. We have managed to hurt relations with clubs by lodging insulting bids for players. Our pursuit of Cesc was not only amateurish but insulting to both Barcelona and the player. Our pursuit of Baines and Fellaini has not only been disrespectful to Everton, but a poor reflection on Moyes, who continues to opt for the safe options of his former club instead of seeking top talents elsewhere and keeping faith in the coaching staff which had been so successful under Ferguson. And now the attempts to sign Ander Herrera are clear desperation. A horrible summer.

What do you think is the problem then mate? I'd say I'm pretty reserved on these forums but I'm seriously starting to wonder what's going on with our business. Is it really The Equilizers fault? Is the money there? Has Moyes been indecisive? Has the staff changes hindered us? Even I'm getting ratty now.

Apparently Moyes was known for being really indecisive about transfers when he was at Everton and wouldn't ever commit fully to new players. That's what I heard at least.

I'm going to say yes. We were told we had no budget this season. Glazers are in a better financial position, and we're getting sponshorships like mad. Theoretically money is available. Moyes knows how good Fabregas is. No way in hell would be start off with a bid for 25m for Fabregas. Woodward, I'm sorry is to blame. He's a shrewd business man who seeks to make profits, and can't get to grips with the idea of investing a lot of money in a player. Champions league etc will give us our income depending on how far he goes, and it's as if he can't see that the better the team is, the more likely it is to do well. More money spent now, more money earned over the next few seasons.
He'll continue this way I'm afraid. Safe bets, and will negotiate badly to get players cheaply.

Let's face it, we had a whole summer to get things done and haven't. I've zero faith left that anything will happen in this window for us.

We can not control what other clubs do. We buy what we need most and that is midfield presence and power. Fellaini fits the bill, ozil does not, we are not city who can throw around money to buy players they don't need to stop other clubs from having him.

People keep saying this but today having Ozil in the team would have made a much bigger difference than Fellaini. Same against Chelsea. Saying that I think we need both types of midfielder.

I think we can now safely agree it's been a failed transfer window for us.

Even if we do get in Fellaini, how on earth did we not just pay the buyout clause first thing in July and alleviate the pressure on Moyes signing a midfielder, as well as letting the big guy ease into things on pre-season?

Instead the world knows we're in desperate, dire need for a midfielder meaning clubs like Bilbao will fleece us and Woody will pull the plug on any potential deal.
