United in this Summer transfer window

I feel a bit sorry for Moyes. It's clear he's trying to improve the midfield but for some reason we haven't been able to sign anyone.

If Fellaini was a player he definitely wanted to sign, why didn't we just pay his release clause? Same can now be said about Herrera. It appears our attempts to save every penny possible has backfired and for that I blame Woodward/whoever negotiates transfers, not the manager.

In WWII, there was a saying in Britain" "make do and mend." Woodward must have seen this in the war museum in Manchester and decided to adopt it as out unofficial motto.

True. It's the new manager - new Chief Executive double whammy. :(
I hope we recover and bounce back though. Moyes has worked with a shoestring budget at Everton and still made them punch above their weight. I hope he can do the same here this season at least. Next season, I can't see us going forward without a rather large clearout.

It's a good thing for the Chief Exec/the board that they don't need to stand for election like the Spanish clubs.

I'd like us to sign a proper wide player as well. Someone who can comfortably play on the left and cross a ball. Di Maria would have been perfect. None of this Giggs/Welbeck/Young nonsense.

Didn't Fergie say we had a deal for a couple of players sorted, who were they?

I feel the same way. Considering 3 very talented left-footed wingers/attacking midfielders have all made moves this summer (or about to) in James Rodriguez, Erik Lamela and Gareth Bale - the one player that at the moment I see as a possible left-winger for the future for us is Julian Draxler.

Could be a great signing one day, but I imagine he would be very expensive.

I agree also - I've actually been thinking since he started getting linked to Arsenal that we'd be a better fit for him.

Herrera, Fellaini, Di Maria and Coentrao would be my targets if I was in Moyes' shoes. Fellaini is the only one we'll likely get, which is a shame as the others seem to be available for the right price.

Gill was regularly critisised during his time at United but this summer has been shambolic and we're left to aimlessly fight for scraps on the final day without a clear plan in mind. A scatterbomb aproach from United - depressing.

How can you possibly know that?

I'd have Baines over Coentrao.

Could be a very tough season if nobody comes in. Giggs starting games and Jones at right back is going to effect us big time, and Rooney injured/out of form we could be heading for our worst start in years. Not entirely the fault of the manager, but we have had all summer to do something about the midfield situation, now surely the whole summer wasn't spent trying to sign Cesc Fabregas who was never going to leave Barcelona.

Results will be very important in the coming weeks.

We're going to end up with just Fellaini, which as I've said a million times is just underwhelming.

We can generate a few improvements within what we already have though. Valencia is a far better option at RB than Jones when Rafael is out. And we can start to pick Kagawa and Nani.

Moyes and EdWood ought to fined for their shitness this summer.

So much monging out over a team we rarely beat at Anfield these days.

It's more over the performance than the result. We've lost at Anfield in other years where we can admit Liverpool played well. Bar the first half hour or so, they weren't exactly brilliant and we should not have lost to them. It's clear that some areas of the team need addressing. We're not expecting to splash silly money on players, but the fact that we haven't addressed any of the sides problems with one day to go, and may actually not, is understandably worrying for some people.

It's worrying for me too. There's a lack of depth in midfield and I want someone brought in. Doesn't mean I'm going to be an idiot and not consider all the factors.

Of course not. Just saying that people are entitled to voice their complaints in this thread over our transfer business, or lack of business.

They are yes. I just expect reasonable reactions. Or humorous ones at least. But that's just me being tired of all the Moyes/Woodward slagging off I guess.

Poor Moyes, who'd have thought he'd manage to spend less here than he did at Everton most summers.

Underwhelming is the right word. It's not a crisis. It's not suicidal. It's just underwhelming. We have a great squad, more options than we really used last year, you mentioned Nani and Kagawa, both played only a small part in what was a very good season. I trust our squad, if we sign one midfielder I think we'll be in good shape, I'll trust Moyes' judgement that Fellaini can rise to the challenge.
