United in this Summer transfer window

alliteratively he really wants to stay there? I know, shocking thought.

So you think these quotes prove he never indicated to United that he was interested in a move? What do you expect him to say? "Yeah, I was considering leaving the club (again) and heading to United but that didn't work out so I'm gonna hang around here for another year..."? I wonder how that would go down with the Barca fans?

If you want to believe everything a player says in public then that's fair enough, just don't expect everyone else to be so credulous.

I take everything said by players, at least where transfers are concerned, with a bloody great tub of Saxo.

Can i name all these idiots who claimed there must have been happening behind the scenes?

Seriously, tell me this. Now that everything's done and dusted and he's staying, do you expect him to come out and say anything different to what he has said regardless of what might have happened in the summer?

Let me put it this way, even if he wanted to come but the move didnt materialize for whatever reason, do you think he'd come out and say "Yes, I considered moving to Manchester United but I was told by the manager that I am in his plans here and the bids were rejected anyways so here I am"? Really?

Ok then. Yet i was right.

Were you? Any response to this?

We should delete all the posts in this thread once the window closes.

Out of all the players we have been genuinely linked with, I can only see Baines and Fellaini as still alive.

Cesc is a no-go - as are Ronnie, Ozil, Mata and Bale.

I appreciate we are trying to add World-Class quality and it is not always easy, but I would be quite down if it ended up just Baines and Fellaini (or just one of them). We really need a further injection of class to be competing in Europe as well as the league IMO.

Not really, we just need some more midfield options but it doesn't need to be anything spectacular i.e. Fabregas

We have enough 'class' to compete in Europe and win the league

Thursdag, friday and monday. Exciting days to come until the transfer window for this summer are gone.

It never happens stuff on sat/sun so they have some work to do tomorrow and friday if they wants to bring in someone.

Yeah, for me obviously we'll try our best in europe but we need another top player in the middle and one of the wingers too really get back on track to properly push in europe. In the league though we really could just use someone to be able to come in for Carrick. I think the squad is fine with that addition to challenge for the title if we get that player in. Then Moyes can spend a whole season trying to identify a star player in the middle.

Fellaini will add to the squad but it still doesn't solve the major problem we have

I think we can cope well with injury to any player in the squad apart from Carrick

Lose him for a sustained period and we will struggle

I think we already have an excellent squad. Adding Fellaini gives us some much needed depth, cover for Carrick, and the option of a different approach when required. Definitely for it. I'd be fine with not signing anyone else and support the club's policy of only going for the very best players available in their positions. Why settle for anything else? May as well work with the emerging talents we have already worked so hard to develop. i.e. Welbeck, Cleverley, Kagawa, Zaha and Januzaj. If Anderson stays fit and lean, as does Rooney, (they both appear that way for now), then I think the squad is stronger already than it was last year.

Basically, off the top of my head - every single one of our rivals home and abroad have not stood still this summer so far. There is possibly an argument against Dortmund as they have lost a special player in Gotze, but they have added Mkhtaryian and Aubameyang in his place. We all know who Bayern have bought, Barca have added Neymar, Real have strengthened, City and Chelsea have strengthened and I also believe Spurs have done their bit to close the gap on the top.

I do not believe in adding players for the sake of it, but I'm also not convinced we were necessarily so brilliant last season that we should be justified in not doing anything all summer and telling the rest of Europe to 'catch up'.

I knew you would see it my way in the end Ash! ;)

Mirror reporting we've made/are making a new bid of £38m for the two likely lads.

The price doesn't bother me any more. If Moyes wants them to complete his squad, I'll happily see them come in. Would probably be about £22m Fellaini, £16m Baines which is probably a bit much but that's not surprising considering the stage of the window we're at.

lol I've never denied that, that sort of player has been my main concern for the summer, still think in addition to that we'll need a more creative player in the middle if we want to do better in europe and that without a more creative player we'll continue to have league games which are harder than they need to be.

That sort of player has been my main concern for 3 summers! I too would love a top creative player in the middle, but at least if we sign a more solid player now, that gives us the platform for the creative players we already have to flourish. For me it has always been about addressing our most obvious weaknesses, that's when you see the most significant improvement. We are not anywhere near as short in any other area, and having Carrick as our only effective defensive minded player, for me, is a glaringly obvious weakness and it needs to be addressed first and foremost.

We are not short of creativity, although adding some real top quality would obviously be a benefit. But we are so short of defensive options in midfield that it beggars belief really. I honestly cannot think of any other top club that has only one defensive minded midfield option in their whole squad, that's why it simply has to be addressed this window. Going into yet another season with only Carrick for that role is just far too big a risk, when we consider the options we have- or don't have- should he be out for any length of time.

Moyes, as I expected, is already employing a more intensive pressing game than we had under SAF. That will make us harder to beat, limit the opportunities for the opposition, and can only be of benefit in the big games and in Europe. Signing Fellaini will surely give us a better chance of being able to maintain an effective pressing game should Carrick be out. Less possession for the opponent, means more possession for us, and more opportunities for us to get the ball to our more creative players. If we don't get Fellaini, it's going to be another long season of praying Carrick remains injury free.

Looks like only Fellaini and Baines are possible additions.

I really hope that Moyes doesn't believe the ''no budget'' bullshit he was saying in buying these two because it will lessen whatever amount we have to spend on new players.

The most uninspiring start to a new season for a long time in terms of how the transfer market has gone for us. The big European teams who have leap frogged us since 2009 strengthened impressively and we have done feck all.

Bet Moyes and Woodward wished they hadn't given It all the no budget, wouldn't baulk at paying huge for 1player, we go for the best players in the world, we're after Fabregas nonsense now!

Hyping it up hugely and then going for 2 good but not overly inspiring Everton players looks a bit silly after that.

The worse thing is.. That is all we are getting. No marquee crap they've been talking about and i can't believe we are living business so late. Moyes and Ed have been clueless in this window.

Except we don't really do that. Unless you think Fellaini is the very best CM available. Or I could cite Ashley Young again. We never really go for the very best players, with some exceptions like Van Persie.

When Moyes mentioned we have no budget...did he mean that we had no money to spend?

sorry i missed it.

Obviously you are right, providing that Fabregas wanted to leave and didn't managed to push this move through such statement would be a welcomed gesture from / insurance policy for Fabregas.

My argument is different: in my opinion, based on facts which we know and basic logic, i don't believe for a second that Fabregas was an attainable target. Everything i read coming from Barca camp make me believe that it was a blind shot from our side.

I guess the conclusion is simple you believe that certain things happen (contact from Fabregas camp, Barca putting Cesc up for sales) yet you cannot prove that, I believe that none of this happen yet i cannot definitively say that you are wrong. as we are both only fans fed by media outlets.

I guess we are both disappointing we didn't get him.

I still don't understand why we are going for these 2 at the last minute, as it was pretty much inevitable we were going to buy them why didn't we buy in June & have a full pre-season & squad integration with them?

The other marquee targets, Fabregas/Ronaldo/Bale/Ozil etc don't play in any of the positions these 2 play in so I don't understand what the delay was.

Fun watching Spurs buy players that I would have taken at OT, whilst we stand absolutely still.

Yeah, don't know about that. They have done brilliantly this window but they have just got a number of good players where we already have great players. From memory they have soldado where we have rvp. They have lamela and soon to be eriksen where we have Rooney and kagawa. The only player they got in a position to would be interested in is paulinho, who although it's good, wouldn't say is great, and he is unproven in Premier league (yeah I know it's a cliche statement).
Given choice of paulinho or fellaini, I'd go fellaini...just, although I'd be more 'excited' about paulinho.
They have done well, for them. But to suggest they have done beret than us is wrong as we didn't need the players they got. They really did

They got the players they needed, we didn't so they did better than us.

They also got Capoue, who is a good young defensive midfielder who could have provided a cheaper alternative to Carrick. It isn't just this summer either, last year they bought Dembele for a very good price who would have improved us.
