United in this Summer transfer window

I remember a month ago it was headlines of us going after Cesc Fabregas and Gareth Bale.

According to a Spurs fan on Talksport we are going to finish outside the top 3 and they are going to take 3rd place because of all their signings.

Nah, he's not a central midfield. That's where we need more players with technical ability. Kagawa is better much further forward. More of an attacker than a playmaker.

But isnt that how Fabregas has been used increasingly of late? I may be wrong about this as I seldom watch Spanish football. But even at Arsenal he played as quite an advanced midfielder, probably not that far from where Kagawa likes to play.

Really? I always remember him being at his best quote deep for arsenal, controlling the tempo of the game. Of course things evolved later on but for me he's still a pure central midfielder who is versatile enough to play elsewhere whereas kagawa is more like an attacking midfielder like Gerrard used to be.

At barca he hasn't really fit into their tiki taka too well so they prefer to stick him in other positions where they can still keep their usual game intact and still give him games.

Fair enough. I don't agree with that notion, but if a Spurs fan thinks that by signing a bunch of quality players they now have a better team than United, then it isn't totally incomputable.

Again, I disagree, although I have said a few times this summer that personnel wise, I think their first XI is now on a similar level to ours. In fairness, I did say 'if they keep Bale', although if they get Lamela and Willian in place, that is still potentially true.

Good luck with that. Anyone that looks good for them I suppose we will just pinch anyway..

A lot of Spurs fans I know
have said this to me every season for the past 6 years.

How many trophies have they won?

Deluded.

Spurs fan at work thinks just the same.

When they've bottled 4th again and let Arsenal off the hook again, maybe they'll learn.

We look increasingly like a bunch of clowns this summer.

Especially after all the club promoted transfer hype.

It's obvious we have been completely rebuffed by our main targets with the Fellini bid coming so late

Just read an article, i think it was from Daniel Taylor, in which it said that Moyes decided against buying Thiago as the coaching staff didn't think he was good enough, and the big one is that Moyes contacted Harry about Modric and was told that "he disappeared in big matches" so we have now decided against him too.

If the above is true then we going to end up buying no one...we are simply clueless!!!

We could've bought Fellaini for 23.5 million before his release clause expired

We like other clubs didn't value him that highly

What odds we end up paying over that.....

Our transfer policy is laughable - Gill/Fergie hardly addressed the issue - in his chats with Moyes we should have had deals arranged months ago

Prefer Cabaye to Fellaini if I'm honest, feels like the former is more aligned with 'the united way'.

Why would you ask Harry, himself the king of big game bottling!

If that's true then I can only hope that it means we won't pay more money for an older, poorer player.

What exactly is the United way and why wouldnt Fellaini fit in it? He can pass the ball you know and is comfortable with it at his feet. Has anybody actually watches how Fellaini can play or are they just put off by his height and hairstyle.

Starting to get maybe a little twitchy at this point. Was extremely premature when people were slamming on about transfer inactivity at the start of the month but we're leaving this very late now.

The reason we are on go slow is because ronaldo is the main target and nothing can happen until bale moves; the deal is likely to include evra, we can't buy baines until the deal is done but we can't just hang around and do nothing hence making these bids to keep baines interested and keep the door ajar to allow a quick move once evra leaves. Softly, softly spank the monkey.

Fellaini was our midfield Plan A (along with thiago) until fabregas reps encouraged an approach; fabregas has got what he wanted in more playing time at barca, Fellaini is now our Plan B.

Glad that's sorted then. You wouldn't happen to have Saturday's lottery numbers, would you?

Well the cynics said when we were eying up class Barcelona midfielders that the real targets would always be Fellaini and Baines. Those are probably the deals we'll get done. Good players, just probably not as sexy/exciting as some would have hoped for.

Make your mind up!

Lots of assumptions there! ;) I'm not believing a word of anything I read with this stuff any more. It was always retarded but this summer has been a step too far in terms of the lies and obvious fabrications of the media. I want something to happen but I'll only believe it when it does or when there are quotes or some other form of convincing evidence. The 'no smoke without fire' thing no longer applies.

I know we're not a sugar daddy club, but we aren't skint and it seems we are adverse to spending more than £20m on a player. The level of research (seemingly speaking to every former coach, school teacher probably etc) that we put into buying a £20m+ is quite a lot. Times have changed, the £15-£17m player we often target rarely get's top bracket.

I remember many comments from Fergie saying how we really 'went the extra mile' or 'pushed the boat out' for Persie last summer. From a pure muppet perspective, I don't see £24m for Persie as going the extra mile at all - that price is a great deal for probably the best centre-forward in the game. That statement perhaps does indicate an over reservedness on our part in general though.

The window goes from a terrible one to a decent/good one with just one signing. We've no need for any other players apart from CMs providing we sell nobody.

I like Cabaye, but I think he'd just be a slightly improved and more experienced Cleverley. He wouldn't really offer us anything different to what we have, despite being a good player.

Yeah, I've noticed more and more clubs making bids and signing players for around the 30/40m mark. Fact is if you want to compete in that market you have to do the same. Having said that, I don't see many available players that I'd want to spend that kind of money on.

That was about convincing Wenger, Arsenal and RvP and not about the money. We bid close to 30 million and almost got Lucas.
