I just wish he hadn't used that 'I only got here in July 1st' excuse. Is anyone really supposed to believe he hadn't done any work concerning Manchester United for almost two months after his appointment was announced?
It's a rubbish excuse and really dissapointing if true.I just wish he hadn't used that 'I only got here in July 1st' excuse. Is anyone really supposed to believe he hadn't done any work concerning Manchester United for almost two months after his appointment was announced?
David Moyes confident on new signings at Manchester United
David Moyes is more than confident that he can strengthen his Manchester United squad before the end of the transfer window.
Manchester United have, this transfer window, already had two of £25million & £30million bids for Cesc Fabregas rejected by FC Barcelona, but are expected to return in a final attempt to lure the former Arsenal player to Manchester.
Moyes is very confident that he can still strengthen his team and confirms that the club is in talks with various players.
Speaking with Sky Sports, Moyes said:
“I’m confident we will have players in,
“We are involved in several players we are looking at and that will continue. Will we get them before the deadline? I hope so, but we are working very hard to do so.”
“This was always going to be a difficult window for me personally because I joined Manchester United on 1 July so it is giving you a short period to get to know the players and to get to know the market.
“Yes of course I was working on it during the summer but it is never the same until you have actually worked with the players and been around them.
“But what I do know is the group of players we have got are a great group of players – they won the Premier League last year
“We have got lots of young exciting players – a lot of them played for England last night – so it is important that we focus on the players we have got at Manchester United and how well they have done last year.
“There is not much change so hopefully they will be able to continue the way they finished last season.”
Every summer...the club must be employing a load of people to "work hard" yet achieve feck all.
They need to stay off the fecking caf!
The latter part of those quotes suggests to me that we won't actually be getting anyone. I won't be surprised if Moyes doesn't sign a midfielder in the first 3 years of his tenure.
He wants to sign players to strenghten the team but doesn't want to seem desperate as if the players we already have are shite. That's why he's constantly saying not to forget the ones we already have.
I understand it's annoying though. It's 15th of August already and we've signed no one, although I'm fairly certain we'll sign at least two players until the end of the window.
I guess this summer was always going to be frustrating and slow with the new manager, staff and CEO all in one summer.
With SAF retiring and all the talks about the money being available, if there ever was a summer where I was confident to see some money spent on the CM it was this one It's not over yet officially but it sure feels like it.
I'm not having a go at you mate, just saying that Moyes has been on with the same quotes for over a month and we're not even sure we're doing anything, it's been awfully quiet in the past couple of weeks and media usually have some leaks about our targets.

Yeah but it's not the manager buying players in those two clubs... it's the director of football, both of which have been in place a lot longer. We have the old-school management setup where the manager does it all.Exactly. It's like his engaging in self pity to win some time. But it's a rubbish excuse. The city and chelsea bosses also started at the same time but they've already gotten players in.
So many pathetic comments questioning the competence of the manager and taking quotes like "we will have players in" and translating it to mean "we will probably not have players in"

Schurrle was already all but secured long before Mourinho agreed to take over. There have been talks about this possible signing for at least a year, it was a surprise that it didn't come off last year. Van Ginkel was probably a signing that Mourinho requested but he won't go straight into first team, much like the Croatian forward they bought. All in all they've not signed anyone except Schurrle for their first team and he wasn't Mourinho's idea in the first place.I dont think mourinho would tolerate that sory of thing again after coming back. Pretty sure those are his signings.
He's been saying that we are working very hard on stuff for 4 weeks. Season starts in 3 days and we've signed no one even though it's clear that we need players, especially in midfield. It's the same stuff Ferguson used to say about midfield reinforcements, next in the line will be him complaining about City paying €30m for Ferdnandinho and no value in the market.
No matter what Mourinho would suggest, that is still Roman Abramovich's club, not Jose's. That Emanalo character is there as the director of football and he'll be the one doing the buying and selling. I've no doubt that Mourinho is heavily involved and will have given his point of view on the proposed purchases but he won't have the final say.I dont think mourinho would tolerate that sory of thing again after coming back. Pretty sure those are his signings.
The domino this year could well be Bale, but if Levy does his normal and delays until the deadline then it could be that all the pieces cannot fall into place in time.Maybe he's been working hard on transfers for 4 weeks to ensure we get the right players in? Lots of clubs need to sell/sign before another player can move, lots of transfers depend on the first domino falling.

I am working hard to bring the signings in Doc!! feck sake get off my back will yas!!
I wish David had given Ed the keys to the war chest...
Well we know we are interested in Baines and Fabregas that's the two we have bid for the other 1 or 2 we are all hoping for Ronaldo and Bale. Perhaps we will have a second option for Fabregas looks like its not Fellaini. Imagine we will sign Baines followed by a midfielder and that will be us.
If we put all of Moyes' quotes together, we are targeting the very best players in the World and confident of signing several players before September 3rd.
I'd have to put a little faith in him and say he must be targeting somebody in the Modric/Ozil mold. In which case I will forgive him for any delays and offer him my entire patience.
I will be disappointed if we don't sign a midfielder but it will not be the end of our season we still have enough to have a great shout at the league and Champions league imho!
The excuse being he couldn't get the players he wanted?Saying he only had since July the 1st to see what players are available and sign them is a ridiculous excuse. How much time does he possibly need? I know it's not him doing the wheeling and dealing directly, but he should be emphasizing to the board how important it is to strengthen and do it quickly. Having players in for preseason would have made much more sense as it would give them time to settle. The season starts in two days and we have an awful start. He specifically said he needed to strengthen and then a month later says the current squad is good enough. He specifically said we need to strengthen in midfield. There is no excuse for not doing so in 9 weeks.
We'll always have a chance in the league but realistically teams like Bayern will rip through our midfield like a knife through butter. And this league will be much harder than last year anyway.
A lot of hypothetical thinking there Beachryan how about Moyes has tried to sign top class players and they are hard to come bye? Not rocket science would you rather he settle for mediocre players?Given Moyes has just now appeared to have looked at the fixture list, it makes it even more embarrassing. When we all saw the fixtures released it was a reaction of 'oh sh*t, that's a ridiculous start for the new manager'.
Which should have been followed by: 'so it'll be important he gets the new players in early, gives them time to settle with the team and are ready to hit that tough start running.'.
Instead we've signed no one before our first match, failed to sort out the Rooney situation and made eyes at a player who was never going to come, for over a month.
It's pretty farcical.
If we fail to win at Swansea - and that's very likely given their great summer of business, the fact they've already been playing competitively and the fact that very few teams win away there - we could easily get 3 points from our first 5 matches. At which point I think even Ed Woodward might have noticed that United probably should have signed the player they've desperately needed for eons.
